After a morning's delay, many memorials had piled up on my desk.
Upon entering the study, Rong Qingqing consciously let go of Xie Jingrun's hand and walked alone to the bookshelf next to her.
The Imperial Study was very large, with bookshelves lining all four walls, filled with books.
Rong Qingqing walked over, randomly picked out a book, sat down on a chair next to her, and started flipping through it.
The book's contents were obscure and difficult to understand; it was all about governing the country, and she wasn't interested in it.
But with nothing else to do, she forced herself to watch.
However, after watching for a short while, she began to doze off.
She glanced at the man sitting behind the imperial desk, diligently reviewing documents. Seeing that he wouldn't look at her, she simply leaned back in her chair, closed her eyes, and went to sleep.
Just as she was about to fall asleep, a commotion suddenly broke out outside.
"Your Majesty, something terrible has happened! Miss Hua has fallen into the water..."
Rong Qingqing was startled, immediately opened her eyes, and subconsciously looked at Xie Jingrun.
Xie Jingrun remained seated in his chair, not in a hurry to get up, but instead glanced at her.
Rong Qingqing paused for a moment and asked, "It seems that Miss Hua is in trouble. Aren't you going to go and see her?"
Xie Jingrun's lips suddenly curled up. "I'm not going. I still need to review memorials. If you're free, why don't you go and take a look?"
Rong Qingqing was taken aback by his attitude, but she couldn't deny that she felt pleased.
"Okay, I'll go take a look," she said cheerfully, standing up and walking outside.
Watching her walk away, Xie Jingrun's eyes flashed with doting affection as he lowered his head to continue reviewing his work.
"What happened?" Rong Qingqing asked with a frown as she stepped out of the imperial study and saw the panicked eunuch who had come to report the news.
When the eunuch saw that the emperor had not come out, but the empress had instead, he was taken aback and dared not be negligent. He quickly said, "It is like this. Miss Hua just woke up and learned that the emperor was in the imperial study. She wanted to come and ask the emperor to let her leave the palace, but she did not expect that when she passed by the lake, she met the Seventh Princess. The two argued for a few words, and then Miss Hua suddenly fell into the water."
"Has the person been rescued?" Rong Qingqing asked as she walked outside.
"When I came here just now, it wasn't there yet, but some guards have already gone over there, so it should be up by now," the eunuch replied.
Upon hearing this, Rong Qingqing didn't say anything more, but quickly walked towards the lake.
She knew that there was indeed a lake not far from the Imperial Study.
But how could it be such a coincidence?
Just when he was about to leave the palace, he fell into the lake.
As Rong Qingqing's mind raced, she arrived at the lake the eunuch had mentioned.
At this time, the lakeside was crowded with people.
Upon seeing Rong Qingqing approach, everyone knelt down and bowed to her.
She spotted Feng Xin standing by the lake at a glance.
Her face looked terrible, but seeing her approach, she seemed to have found her pillar of support and said urgently, "I didn't push her..."
Rong Qingqing walked over and patted her hand reassuringly.
Old Madam Hua lay on the lakeside, calling out urgently, "Yinyin, Yinyin..."
Rong Qingqing then noticed that Hua Yin had not yet been rescued and was now bobbing up and down in the lake, getting further and further away from the shore. She frantically waved her arms, crying, "Cousin...save me!"
Two guards went down, but for some reason, they couldn't get close to her.
After a moment's thought, Rong Qingqing asked the palace maids gathered around, "Can any of you swim?"
The palace maids exchanged glances and shook their heads, "We're clumsy..."
Upon hearing this, Rong Qingqing waved her hand and said, "Never mind."
She vaguely knew what Hua Yin was planning.
