Chapter Two: The Villain Xie Jingrun

The man who asked the question was an old man, a respected elder in the clan. He was embarrassed when Xie Jingrun retorted so bluntly.

But he didn't dare to confront Xie Jingrun. His face twitched awkwardly a few times before he said stiffly, "Since you have no objections, then let's do as everyone says and have this girl buried with your father."

Hearing such cold and inhumane words, Qingqing calmed down instead.

Her gaze slowly swept across the room.

The room was packed with people, men, women, young and old, all seemingly grieving, but in reality, very few were truly saddened by the passing of the Marquis.

These people were not from the Marquis of Weiyuan's household; they were all relatives from collateral branches.

Having understood all this, Rong Qingqing coldly said, "As far as I know, the Marquis has been bedridden for many years, and his body was already at its last gasp. His death today was due to a relapse of his old illness, and has nothing to do with me. Furthermore, the Marquis and I have not yet completed our wedding ceremony, so this marriage is invalid, and I am not yet a member of the Marquis of Weiyuan's household. You have no right to punish me." With that, she snatched the already askew phoenix crown from her head, placed it on the table, and turned to leave.

Everyone was stunned by her words.

Xie Jingrun couldn't help but look up at her.

This woman, who was a few years younger than him, was originally supposed to be his stepmother, but during the worship of heaven and earth, his father suddenly passed away, and she suddenly became the target of everyone's criticism.

I thought she would surrender without resistance, but to my surprise, she actually knew how to fight back and fight for herself.

This weak and incompetent young lady from the Rong family seems to be quite different from the rumors.

However, this didn't help.

Given the current situation, she cannot escape the fate of being buried alive with the dead!

"Quick, grab her! Don't let her get away!"

The elder was the first to react and gave an order to the people beside him.

Rong Qingqing had already reached the door when she heard the elder's instructions. Knowing something was wrong, she was about to run when she was grabbed by two old women who rushed up from behind.

Her eyes darkened, and just as she was about to struggle, a woman rushed over and slapped her hard across the face. "You brat, you've got a silver tongue, but who do you think you're fooling? You were the Marquis's chosen bride for a marriage to bring him good luck, and now that you've killed him, you think you can just walk away? There's no way you can get away with that so easily."

"That's right. If it weren't for her, the Marquis wouldn't have been in this mess. Now that the Marquis is gone, she naturally has to go and be buried with him!"

“Once you enter the gates of the Marquis of Weiyuan’s mansion, you become a member of the Marquis of Weiyuan’s family. Now that the Marquis has left all alone, he must be reluctant to part with his bride,” someone said maliciously.

"Yes, make her die with him!"

The voices of agreement grew louder and more forceful with each one.

It's as if human life is utterly insignificant to them.

Rong Qingqing felt a chill run through her body. Even if she had three mouths, it wouldn't be of any use today, because these people would never let her go.

Is she going to die so soon after she transmigrated?

In her panic, out of the corner of her eye, she saw Xie Jingrun's indifferent figure leaving.

A glimmer of light suddenly ignited in his lifeless eyes.

How could she have forgotten him?

"Take her away and make her be buried with the Marquis!" The elder's authoritative voice rang out once more.

"Yes," the old woman replied, and then tried to drag Qingqing away.

Qingqing's heart sank. Suddenly, she raised her foot and stomped hard on the old woman's foot. The old woman cried out in pain and let go. Qingqing took another chance and punched another old woman in the face.

"Ah—" the old woman screamed and let go of her hand.
