As soon as Feng Mo stepped out of the courtyard, he suddenly heard a string of silvery laughter.
He looked up and saw several colorful kites floating in the sky.
He paused, looking at the open space ahead, where vague figures could be seen.
It appears to be the family members of an accompanying official, flying a kite.
Just as he was about to leave, a kite suddenly broke free of its string and fell rapidly, landing right on a large tree in front of him.
"There it is!" someone exclaimed.
Soon, a slender figure rushed towards the tree, looked at the kite on it, and anxiously stamped her feet, shouting, "My kite..."
Feng Mo initially ignored him, but then the figure seemed familiar, though he couldn't quite place it. Just then, the woman saw him and exclaimed in delight, "Your Highness, Third Prince..."
Feng Mo finally got a clear look at her face.
It turned out to be Rong Yiyi.
He frowned, not wanting to pay attention to her, but Rong Yiyi, lifting her skirt, had already run over.
"Your Highness, my kite is caught in a tree. Could you please help me get it down?" Rong Yiyi said breathlessly.
Feng Mo glanced at the young ladies playing over there, hesitated for a moment, and then refused, "Let the guards pick them up, I still have..."
“Your Highness…” Rong Yiyi suddenly choked up and interrupted him, saying sadly, “Does Your Highness hate me?”
She heard from Xie Jingyi that she saw Feng Mo come to the courtyard of the Marquis of Weiyuan’s residence to visit Xie Jingrun. She was worried that she would not have a chance to run into him. After hearing the news, she immediately invited a few of her close girlfriends to come over and play with kites, just to create a chance encounter. Now that she had finally met him, how could she let him leave so easily?
A hint of impatience flashed across Feng Mo's brows. "What makes you say such a thing, Miss Rong?" He had never liked her, and while he wouldn't say he disliked her, he simply didn't have any good feelings towards her.
“We are engaged, so why is Your Highness treating me so coldly?” Rong Yiyi’s eyes were red, and she looked pitiful.
She tried to win his pity by appearing weak and pitiful, but little did she know that Feng Mo detested nothing more than a woman crying and sobbing.
His expression softened. "We are engaged, but before the wedding, everything is still uncertain. Besides, there are proper etiquette rules to follow."
Upon hearing this, Rong Yiyi's face turned pale. Now she was truly anxious. What did he mean by "everything is still uncertain before the wedding"? Did he want to break off the engagement?
Also, he specifically mentioned etiquette; was he implying that she didn't know etiquette?
"Your Highness, I..."
Feng Mo suddenly leaped up, took the kite hanging on the tree, and handed it to Rong Yiyi after it landed.
"Thank you, Your Highness..." Rong Yiyi was delighted and stepped forward to accept it.
Feng Mo glanced at her and suddenly said, "I don't believe in coincidences. Many coincidences are often man-made."
After uttering those words, he turned and left.
Watching the man's tall figure walk away, Rong Yiyi clenched the paper kite in her hand.
Feng Mo actually saw through her.
She narrowed her eyes.
But so what?
In this world, no one is more worthy of her than Feng Mo, and she will not give up on him.
A look of determination flashed in her eyes.
...
Xie Jingrun was not seriously injured. As soon as Rong Qingqing left, he got out of bed.
Just then, Emperor Zhaojing walked in from outside.
He didn't have anyone announce his arrival, but went straight into his house.
He was somewhat surprised when he smelled the lingering medicinal odor in the room. He thought Xie Jingrun's injuries were not serious, but now he was actually taking medicine.
