She was already out of breath from running, and now that he had covered her mouth, she had even more trouble breathing and almost fainted. She weakly punched his chest with her fist.
Just when she thought she was going to die, Xie Jingrun finally let go of her and picked her up in his arms.
The fresh breath filled her mouth, giving her a feeling of rebirth. She leaned weakly on his shoulder, breathing deeply.
Xie Jingrun turned his head and looked at the girl leaning on his shoulder, breathing gently with her nostrils flaring. His heart softened, and he lowered his head to kiss her on the face.
Rong Qingqing was breathing heavily when suddenly she felt a cool sensation on her cheek.
She paused, blinked a few times, clutched his collar, and didn't look up.
Looking at the girl curled up in his arms, Xie Jingrun's lips curled up, and a sense of pleasure washed over him.
He whistled, and the horse that had been grazing immediately came over and stopped in front of the two of them.
He lifted Rong Qingqing onto the back of the horse, then sat behind her. Seeing that she was still looking dazed, he couldn't help but gently pinch her soft face and teasingly asked, "Are you stupid?"
"You're the one who's stupid." Rong Qingqing slapped his hand away.
Xie Jingrun didn't take it seriously, pulled on the reins, and urged the horse forward.
Unlike their journey there, which was a whirlwind, the return trip was much slower, with the horses carrying the two of them at a leisurely pace, and Xie Jingrun did not urge them on.
After walking for a while, Rong Qingqing noticed that he didn't seem to be riding any faster, so she couldn't help but remind him, "If we go any later, the city gates will close."
