"Young man, there's no need for that. Consider it an emergency favor. Take the money quickly and bury your father properly so he can rest in peace." Rong Qingqing felt a little helpless seeing his earnestness. She really wasn't used to being kowtowed to and just wanted him to take the money quickly.
Upon hearing what she said, the boy couldn't help but look up at her.
The girl in front of him looked younger than him, yet she called him "little brother."
The boy pursed his lips, about to correct her, when a group of thugs walked over and snatched the silver from Rong Qingqing's hand without saying a word.
"This kid is supposed to be sold to us. Isn't it a bit unfair of you to snatch him away like this?" the leader of the thugs said preemptively.
Rong Qingqing narrowed her eyes slightly, "What do you mean he wants to sell it to you? Did you pay him first?"
"Isn't this it?" The thug waved the silver in his hand and stuffed it into the boy's hand. "Alright, you've taken the silver, now hurry up and come with us."
Rong Qingqing's eyes widened. What did it mean to be shameless? She had finally learned her lesson.
She took a deep breath and said calmly, "That money is mine, not yours. Even if you want to buy it, you have to show some sincerity."
"Your name isn't engraved on this silver, so just because you say it's yours doesn't mean it is," the scoundrel said shamelessly.
"Is that so?" Rong Qingqing glanced at him with a sinister look, then suddenly reached out, grabbed the jade pendant from his waist, and shook it. "You're right. There are no markings on it, so this jade pendant is mine now."
The smug look on the young thug's face immediately froze. He reached for his waist and found that his jade pendant was missing. Upon closer inspection, he realized that the jade pendant in the young woman's hand was his.
"Give it back to me right now!" he said, his face darkening.
"Why should I give it to you? Your name isn't engraved on this jade pendant. Just because you say it's yours doesn't mean it's yours." Rong Qingqing perfectly mimicked his shameless tone from before.
The thug was furious. "Fine, you've got guts! Brothers, take them all down and bring them all back to Warm Fragrance Pavilion!"
The group of thugs following behind the young scoundrel immediately swarmed forward upon receiving the order.
Those who had originally gathered to watch the spectacle scattered like birds and beasts upon seeing this display of power.
"Miss!" Xiao Tao exclaimed in alarm, hurriedly blocking Rong Qingqing's way. "Miss, please go first!"
Looking at the small, thin figure blocking her way, Rong Qingqing felt a warmth in her heart and patted her shoulder, "How could I abandon you and run away alone?"
"Miss..." Xiao Tao was extremely anxious.
"It's nothing, just a bunch of thugs. Who hasn't been in a fight before?" Rong Qingqing bent down, picked up a stick, and pulled her behind her.
The leader of the thugs was so angry at her words that he laughed. Just as he was about to step forward to teach her a lesson, a fist suddenly slammed into his nose.
The force was so strong that he staggered back several steps before regaining his balance. The intense pain brought him back to his senses immediately.
Touching it, my hand was covered in blood.
"Aaaaah!" the thug screamed, jumping up and down, and fiercely ordered, "Beat them to death!"
Rong Qingqing was also taken aback when she saw this scene. When she looked at the boy again, she saw that he was still calm, as if he was not the one who had just punched the thug.
Just then, a thug rushed over, and as she was about to raise the stick in her hand, a figure suddenly flashed by.
With a loud "bang," the thug was thrown out.
