When Granny Lin walked in, she quickly looked around before walking up to Rong Qingqing and bowing.
"This servant greets Your Majesty."
"No need for formalities, Granny Lin," Rong Qingqing said calmly. "By the way, Granny Lin, did you come here specifically for this purpose? Does the Empress Dowager have any instructions?"
Lin Mama straightened up and said in a serious tone, "The Empress Dowager said that she is very bored living alone in Shouning Palace. If Your Highness has time, please go and visit her more often and keep her company."
Rong Qingqing sneered inwardly upon hearing this.
The Empress Dowager is indeed bored. She deliberately sent Granny Lin to give her a warning, saying that she shouldn't go and pay her respects to her.
She didn't respond to Lin Mama's words, but only said, "I understand. I'll go over in a bit and keep her company."
Lin Mama glanced at her and said, "The Empress Dowager has just gotten up. Since Your Highness has not yet eaten, why don't you go and dine with the Empress Dowager? She will surely be pleased."
Hearing her insincere words, Rong Qingqing's lips curled up. Rather than asking her to dine with the Empress Dowager, it was more like asking her to go and serve her. If she really went, she could forget about eating.
She said calmly, "It will take me a while to wash up. How can I keep the Empress Dowager waiting for me? Lin Mama, please go back first. I will be there in a little while."
Upon hearing this, Granny Lin said nothing more, bowed, and said, "This servant takes her leave."
After she left, Xiao Tao frowned and said, "Why did the Empress Dowager suddenly think of the Empress?"
"They're just bored and want to make fun of me," Rong Qingqing said calmly.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Tao immediately became worried, "Will Your Highness be going over there later?"
“Of course I should, after all, they are elders.” Rong Qingqing said with narrowed eyes, “However, there’s no need to go so early. Let me finish my breakfast first, and then we can talk about it.”
"This servant will have breakfast brought up right away," Xiao Tao said, and hurried out to make the arrangements.
Rong Qingqing lingered in Yuxian Palace for a long time before slowly making her way to Shouning Palace.
As soon as she arrived, the palace servants immediately began to sing at the door.
The people inside the house stopped talking abruptly when they heard that Rong Qingqing had arrived.
Rong Qingqing led Xiao Tao inside.
They were somewhat surprised to see Madam Hua and Hua Yin sitting there.
"This old woman greets Your Majesty the Empress."
"This humble woman greets Your Majesty the Empress."
The grandfather and granddaughter immediately stood up and bowed to Rong Qingqing.
Rong Qingqing said gently, "Please get up, Madam. Miss Hua, please get up too."
Madam Hua and Hua Yin straightened up and stepped aside.
Rong Qingqing stepped forward and bowed to the Empress Dowager.
The Empress Dowager gave her a kind look and said, "Please sit down, Empress."
Rong Qingqing was puzzled. This old woman had suddenly become so kind today, as if the unpleasant incident from last time had never happened. She thought she had probably dug a pit for her.
She did as she was told and sat down on the chair next to her.
"Madam and Yinyin, please sit down quickly, don't stand," the Empress Dowager said again.
The two of them sat down as instructed.
Rong Qingqing smiled and said, "I just heard some noise inside the room. Did something fun happen?"
The Empress Dowager glanced at her, then suddenly picked up a Buddhist scripture from beside her and handed it to Lin Mama. "Yinyin copied a Buddhist scripture for me. I am very pleased. The Empress should also take a look."
Upon hearing this, Rong Qingqing glanced at Huayin sitting to the side and took the scripture from Lin Mama's hand.
She casually flipped through the pages and commented, "This handwriting is really good. You can tell at a glance that it was done with care. Miss Hua is truly a skillful person."
Hua Yin blushed upon hearing this, "Your Majesty is too kind."
The Empress Dowager, standing nearby, chimed in at the opportune moment, "The Empress is quite right." After a pause, she suddenly sighed and said, "The inner palace is rather deserted right now. It would be much more lively if there were more people around. Don't you think so, Empress?"
