Chapter Fifty-One: The Last Glimmer of Hope Fades

Aunt Chen was caught off guard by her sudden attack and stood there stunned.

"Is Aunt Chen feeling guilty and unable to speak?" Rong Qingqing sneered. "You keep saying my grandmother won't wake up, but look who's sitting in the room right now?"

Chen had no idea that every word she said to Rong Qingqing here was overheard by Old Madam Rong.

As Rong Qingqing finished speaking, several coughs were heard from inside. Then, Old Madam Rong's somewhat weak voice rang out, "Chen Meihua, get in here!"

Chen's expression changed drastically, and she almost fell to the ground.

The other servants, upon hearing this, were also terrified.

Wasn't it said that the old lady was seriously ill and had been in a coma ever since?

Who was it that shouted just now?

Although his voice sounded somewhat weak, it didn't sound like the kind of voice a seriously ill person would make.

Apart from a few close confidants around Madam Chen, the rest of the servants in the Rong household all looked at Madam Chen with suspicion.

Rong Qingqing looked at Chen Shi, whose face was ashen, and reminded her with a smile, "Aunt Chen, my grandmother is calling you. Didn't you hear her? Or are you too happy to react?"

Madam Chen suddenly came to her senses, but her face was still pale, a ghastly bluish-green as if she had seen a ghost. She said with an awkward smile, "Mother is awake, that's wonderful." With that, she straightened her clothes and rushed into the old lady's room.

When she saw Madam Rong sitting by the headboard, her last hope vanished.

That old codger actually woke up.

She nearly bit her teeth to pieces, but a look of surprise appeared on her face. "Mother, you've finally woken up..."

As Rong Qingqing listened to Chen's performance, a smile played on her lips. She then instructed the servant she had brought with her, "Go and boil a pot of water. Remember, don't rely on anyone else."

The servant was quick-witted and immediately understood her implied meaning. He replied "Yes" and ran off to boil water.

Rong Qingqing stepped into the house.

Inside the room, Mrs. Chen was already weeping with joy, crying out, "It's truly a blessing from heaven! All my prayers and fervent remedies have been worthwhile. Thank God so much..."

"Aunt Chen prayed to the gods and Buddhas, are you sure you were praying for my grandmother to wake up quickly, and not... a curse?" Rong Qingqing interrupted her, appearing straightforward.

Madam Chen's expression changed, and she said with a mournful face, "Qingqing, how could you wrong me like this? During the time your grandmother was in a coma, I took care of her with all my heart..."

"I have indeed tried my best, but it's been incredibly difficult for me to even come in to visit you, Grandmother." At this point, Rong Qingqing became aggrieved and walked towards the old lady's bedside. "Grandmother, you don't know, but when I came back to visit you today, I was stopped outside by several of Aunt Chen's servants. Although Aunt Chen may have been thinking about the safety of the mansion, am I an outsider? She even stopped me. I really don't understand what Aunt Chen thinks of me."

Chen's expression turned unusually grim.

The old lady already looked down on her, and now, after hearing Rong Qingqing's words, the gaze she cast upon her seemed to want to tear her apart.

She had always been afraid of this old woman, and when the old woman glared at her like that, her legs went weak and she almost knelt down.

"Chen, how dare you! I'm not dead yet, and this family is not your place to make decisions!" Old Madam Rong shouted coldly. "Why aren't you kneeling down?"

Startled, Chen's knees buckled and she knelt down. After realizing what had happened, she tried to defend herself, "Mother, please calm down. You can't misunderstand me just because you heard Qingqing's one-sided story."
