Chapter Seventeen: Confusing the Eyes and Ears

After a moment, Changliang broke the silence, his shrewd eyes flashing.

"Haha... It's really hard to guess what young people are thinking. I'm also a bit confused. Just a few days ago, Miss Mo Lan and the chief were having a very pleasant conversation. How come they've suddenly started to get angry?"

As he spoke, Changliang feigned a helpless expression, his eyes revealing an innocent look.

Hua Yifei looked at her daughter with suspicion, her eyes questioning her.

The village chiefs were also completely bewildered, their eyes filled with confusion as they looked at Mo Lan.

Mo Lan was practically spitting in Chang Liang's face.

That guy is completely irresponsible.

To smear a girl in front of so many people, and call yourself a gentleman?

More like a dog!

"I've heard that most people who work as secretaries are eloquent and persuasive, capable of distorting the truth and confusing the public. I didn't believe it before, but after meeting Mr. Changliang today, I have no choice but to believe it. His ability to smear people is truly exceptional."

"Luckily, I am upright and have nothing to fear. If it were an ordinary woman, she would have had to kill herself to prove her innocence!"

As Mo Lan spoke, she glanced at her father sitting in the main seat.

“A few days ago, when my daughter went to Ye County to relax, she happened to run into the barter market. Who knew she would run into Chief Hu? He came up to greet her, and my daughter couldn’t just ignore him. After exchanging greetings, she left. But after Mr. Changliang’s words, it’s as if there’s some kind of shady business going on. It’s really puzzling.”

"Oh? I see," Hua Yifei nodded, but his gaze towards Chang Liang was not pleasant.

The other chieftains sitting in the hall also looked at Changliang with reproach. Fortunately, their elder brother had already told them that Hu Biao was after Qinglong Village.

Faced with the condemnation of the crowd, Hu Biao's eyes darkened. He was about to explode when Chang Liang, who was beside him, held him down.

"Ahem... Chief Hua, our chief came here with the utmost sincerity to propose marriage. If you treat us like this, how are we supposed to explain this to the brothers of White Tiger Cliff?"

"The brothers of White Tiger Cliff are all eagerly awaiting the arrival of our chieftain's new wife!"

Although Chang Liang spoke gently, no one present was a fool; everyone could hear the threat in his words.

"What do you mean, Mr. Changliang? If I don't agree to this marriage, will you White Tiger Cliff attack Green Dragon Village to avenge your chieftain?"

Mo Lan looked at Hu Biao with a surprised expression and a deep look in her eyes.

That bastard has finally shown his disgusting true colors.

"...No, it's not that bad, but the brothers are really unhappy." Since they wouldn't listen to advice, he didn't need to hold back anymore.

"I don't like what you're saying. Marriage is about the goodwill of two families, and mutual affection is the most important thing. How come it sounds like a kidnapping when Mr. Changliang is talking about it?"

Mo Lan looked at Hu Biao and the other man, a mocking smile playing on her lips, and snorted coldly.

If I weren't so weak, I would have kicked them out long ago. Why would I be standing here wasting my breath?

Hua Yifei secretly rejoiced as he watched Hu Biao's face darken, but then coughed seriously on the surface.

"Ahem... Girl, stop talking nonsense. Chief Hu is too lazy to argue with a child like you. Get out of here."

As Hua Yifei spoke, he stood up and clasped his hands in apologetic gesture towards Hu Biao.

"Chief Hu, please don't mind. My wife passed away early, leaving behind two children. I've neglected to discipline my daughter, and it's all my fault. Please forgive me for any offense I may have caused."
