Chapter Seventy-Four: Unworthy to be a Mother

The voice of the tomb spirit echoed in Mo Lan's mind.

"Except for newborn babies, most people in this world have a gray aura, regardless of their status or whether they are doing it willingly or unwillingly. Some people will make selfish choices for themselves or their families. Once these choices become a reality, their aura will change accordingly."

No matter how big or small the evil deed, once it is done, one cannot escape the punishment and retribution of Heaven.

Hearing the tomb spirit's explanation, Mo Lan fell silent. She understood what the tomb spirit meant: evil deeds had nothing to do with status or position.

People of different statuses and identities commit different degrees of evil deeds, but as long as these deeds harm others, they are considered evil.

For example, if an ordinary person steals only a little grain from their neighbor, for the average person, losing even a small amount of grain is enough to leave the neighbor without enough food, or even cause them to starve to death. This situation is no different from the cunning and murderous schemes of powerful families.

Looking at Jiang Mian, Mo Lan breathed a sigh of relief. Since he wasn't interfering or causing her trouble, she would skip the plan to teach him a lesson today.

Instead of wasting time, we might as well take a stroll around the Chen family's place.

Mo Lan was holding the tile, about to put it on, when she saw Madam Jiang storming into Chenxin Garden.

"Mian'er, do you still see me as your mother?" Madam Jiang pointed a trembling finger at her son, her eyes brimming with tears.

"Mother, what are you doing? You are my elder, how could I dare to be disrespectful to you?" Jiang Mian stood up and pointed to the tea he had brewed. "Mother, you've come at the perfect time. This tea is freshly brewed. Please have a taste."

"Don't try to fool me. Tell me, what are you thinking about Kun'er's matter? He's your own cousin. Are you really not going to get involved?" Madam Jiang looked at her son's calm and collected expression, flicked her sleeves, and sat down on a chair to the side.

"Have your aunt and uncle gone back?" Jiang Mian asked calmly, observing his mother's attitude.

"What else can we do but go back? Even you, the princess, have left your seat; how can they possibly stay?" Madam Jiang glared at her son. "They're all relatives..."

Before his mother could finish speaking, Jiang Mian interrupted her, "Mother, you know that the Chen family are relatives. Chen Kun's surname is Chen, not Jiang. I hope you can distinguish between the important and the trivial and not always make things difficult for your son."

"...Difficult? You are a princess, and you are in charge. What's difficult about it?" Madam Jiang paused for a moment, feeling a pang of pity as she thought of her sister's pitiful crying.

"Heh~, it's rare that Mother still remembers that her son is the Princess of Ye County."

Jiang Mian looked at his mother, feeling a mix of emotions. In fact, similar situations had occurred countless times before, but each time it wounded his once-closed heart again.

Looking at her son's mocking expression, Madam Jiang suddenly felt a little flustered.

"Why...why are you looking at Mother like that?"

"It's nothing, it's just that I feel my mother is a good older sister and a good aunt, but she just doesn't feel like a good mother."

"You..." Madam Jiang stared wide-eyed at her son, unable to believe that such words could come out of his mouth.

“Mian’er is right, you really don’t deserve to be his mother. All you care about is the Chen family, your sister, and your nephew. When have you ever truly thought about your son?”

With a furious shout, Master Jiang walked in with a gloomy face.
