Chapter Seventy-One: Unreasonable Argument

As Jiang Mian spoke, he glanced at his aunt and uncle across from him with a half-smile. Although he had a faint smile on his face, for some reason, the Chen couple looked away at the same time, not daring to meet his gaze.

Chen Han, in particular, looked embarrassed after realizing his behavior was inappropriate. He picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then gave a dry laugh.

“Mian’er’s words make sense, but so far we don’t know anything about the other party’s background and we can’t arrest them, which is why we’ve come to you to discuss this.”

"I heard that the troublemaker is a woman who is very fierce. She not only smashed up the pawnshop, but also injured more than a dozen people. Mian'er is also a princess of Ye County. It would be inappropriate to let such a dangerous person stay in the city."

Chen Han spoke very eloquently, as if he had no ulterior motives whatsoever. After his speech, everyone present nodded in agreement.

Seeing everyone's support, Chen Han's expression flashed with pride. Just as he was about to say a few more passionate words, his eyes unfortunately met Jiang Mian's.

Looking into those all-seeing eyes, I instinctively shrank back, my smug expression frozen on my face, my embarrassment obvious.

It's quite embarrassing to admit, even though he's of a higher generation, he just can't act like an elder in front of his nephew.

Seeing her husband's humiliation, Madam Chen felt unhappy, and tears welled up in her eyes.

"Waaah... My poor son, you've suffered terribly this time. Not only did you break two ribs, but you also twisted your ankle. Your whole body is wrapped in bandages. You look so miserable. Mian'er, it's not that your aunt is protecting you, but the other party was just too ruthless."

"Sigh, you're right, the hit was indeed a bit too hard." Chen Han recovered and nodded in agreement, but his shrewd eyes kept a close eye on Jiang Mian, afraid of missing anything.

Listening to the two of them putting on a show, Jiang Mian suppressed the impatience in his eyes, picked up his cup, took a sip of tea, and then spoke calmly.

"I've heard about what happened today, but unfortunately the man had already left by the time the constables arrived."

As Jiang Mian spoke, his gaze swept over the family and relatives sitting in the hall. Seeing their inquiring looks, he curled his lips into a smile.

"The yamen runners have already investigated the situation. The cause was that the Chen family pawnshop tried to force a sale, which angered the other party. Later, Chen Kun led his men to intercept them but failed and was also beaten. That's the whole story."

The Jiang couple listened to their son's account in silence.

As for the others, they just looked at each other in bewilderment.

Being publicly humiliated, Chen Han and his wife blushed deeply, their expressions quite varied. In the end, it was Mrs. Chen who came to her senses first.

“Mian’er, your cousin has been beaten so badly he’s unrecognizable, why are you still concerned about this? No matter what, hitting someone is wrong.”

Sitting on the rooftop, Mo Lan couldn't help but twitch her lips. Sure enough, behind every bratty kid is a bratty parent.

“Street fighting does indeed violate the county law. If Aunt insists, I will immediately issue orders to arrest the people involved in the fight and interrogate them severely as a warning to others.” Jiang Mian looked at the Chen couple, a hint of mockery flashing in his eyes.

Before Madam Chen could speak, Jiang Mian's ambiguous gaze swept over the two of them. "Uncle and Aunt, you wouldn't just tell me to arrest that woman and punish her, while ignoring the rest, would you?"

"originally······"

“Madam, please be quiet. Mian’er is the head of the prefecture and can make his own decisions in all matters. How dare you interrupt him?”
