Chapter Sixty-Five: Deeply Rooted in People's Hearts

Mo Lan took Hua Bao back to the inn, asked the waiter to bring hot water, and took a bath before feeling more comfortable.

The reason she's usually too lazy to move is because she gets sweaty from being annoyed.

"Miss, we beat up that tyrant Chen. Do you think he'll retaliate against us?" Hua Bao asked, drying Mo Lan's hair as she thought about what had happened that day.

Teaching bad guys a lesson is very satisfying, but this is an unfamiliar place, and I'm afraid the young lady can't handle it alone.

"Hua Bao is very smart."

Mo Lan curled her lips slightly. With Chen Kun's vindictive nature, he certainly wouldn't let this go easily.

"Then let's leave Ye County quickly, shall we? They say even a powerful dragon can't suppress a local snake. If they outnumber us, Miss will suffer."

As Hua Bao spoke, she immediately quickened her pace, and before the other party came knocking, they hurried back to the village.

"It's probably too late to leave now. You've forgotten, Chen Bawang's backer is the princess of Ye County. They might have already started checking people at the city gate."

As Mo Lan spoke, a sharp glint flashed in her clear eyes. Although she had caused trouble, she had no intention of walking away.

"Knock knock... Is the young lady there?"

Just as Mo Lan was deep in thought, the waiter knocked on the door.

"Yes, just a moment." Hua Bao braided Mo Lan's half-dry hair into a loose fishtail braid before getting up to open the door. "Little brother, come in and talk. Is there something you need?"

"Ladies... I'd like to ask, were you the two who beat up Chen Bawang on the street today?" The waiter glanced curiously at Mo Lan, who was sitting quietly, and asked awkwardly.

"It spread so quickly?" Mo Lan was somewhat surprised. Had the Chen family already come knocking on their door?

Xiao Er, upon hearing Mo Lan's question, still had something he didn't understand.

"…The young lady's righteous act today has already spread far and wide, and everyone is applauding it. My manager sent me over to confirm. If it is indeed the young lady, please leave quickly and find a place to hide. The Chen and Jiang families are known for doting on Chen Kun; ordinary people can't afford to offend them."

As the waiter spoke, seeing Mo Lan frown, he hurriedly explained, "Miss, please don't misunderstand. We didn't mean to send you away... You know we run an inn, with people coming and going, and it's hard to keep track of your whereabouts. If it affects other guests, we..."

Before the waiter could finish speaking, Mo Lan interrupted him, "No need to explain, let's pack up and leave."

"Miss, we're so sorry, but our manager said your accommodation fee is waived as an apology," the waiter said, wiping the sweat from his forehead.

Actually, you can't blame the shopkeeper; they simply can't afford to offend the Chen family.

Watching the waiter leave with a sigh of relief, Hua Bao stomped her feet angrily, "Miss, they bullied us!"

"Forget it, they're just afraid of the Chen family." Mo Lan shook her head. She had thought the Chen family would come for revenge, but she hadn't expected their tyranny to be so deeply ingrained.

When the two reappeared on the street, people who recognized them began to avoid them from a distance.

But many eyes secretly glanced at her, filled with a mix of emotions: fear, curiosity, pity, and more.

Seeing this, Mo Lan twitched her lips almost imperceptibly. In just half a day, the fact that she whipped people had become common knowledge!

"Miss, are we staying at the hotel?" Hua Bao felt uncomfortable being stared at and couldn't help but lower her head.
