Chapter 296 Going to the Hospital

After school in the afternoon, Gu Ying and Qin Yi left the school gate together and happened to see Shen Xingmian and Gu Ying walking together.

Qin Yi was somewhat indignant, and he retorted, "Shen Xingmian, do you even have a heart? Xi Yue is so good to you, and now she's not even coming to school anymore, aren't you worried?"

Wu Ke also disagreed with Shen Xingmian's approach. Even if there was a conflict between them, it was too cold-blooded of Shen Xingmian to completely sever ties over such a small disagreement. Xi Yue had been very good to him and Gu Ying, but this person had not shown any sign of tension or emotion in the past few days.

But little did they know that some people are simply not good at expressing their emotions.

"Sister Xixi isn't coming to school?" Gu Ying asked in surprise. "Why isn't she coming to school?"

Qin Yi didn't seem to have any prejudice against Gu Ying, but her expression wasn't pleasant either. "Maybe it's because you don't like some people. Now it seems you're really not worth the effort."

After saying that, he and Wu Ke turned and left.

Shen Xingmian's hand, hanging by her side, tightened. Yes, he really wasn't worth the sacrifice.

"Let's go home."

He glanced down at Gu Ying, then turned and headed towards the bus stop.

The boy suddenly stopped and whispered, "Brother Xingmian, I want to go see Sister Xixi."

Shen Xingmian paused, but he didn't speak. Instead, Gu Ying said with a firm tone, "Whether you go or not, I'm going. Don't worry, I'll just sneak a peek."

After saying that, she ignored Shen Xingmian and was about to leave when Shen Xingmian suddenly turned around, "Aying, I..."

Gu Ying's brows furrowed slightly in confusion. "What?"

Shen Xingmian was silent for a few seconds, then said, "Be careful on the road."

Gu Ying nodded and left.

Shen Xingmian only came to his senses after seeing him get into the car. Actually, he wanted to say "I'll go with you," but in the end, he didn't say it.

Qin Yi and Wu Ke arrived at the Mu family's house first. The door was closed, so Qin Yi rang the doorbell and waited quietly.

Wu Ke stood next to him, and the two waited for a while, but no one came.

Wu Ke frowned. "What happened? Is he not home?"

Qin Yi shook his head, "Impossible. If Xi Yue isn't home, there are servants and housekeepers. They probably didn't hear it."

He rang the doorbell again, but once again he waited a long time and still no one came.

Wu Ke and Qin Yi were both puzzled.

Who are you?

A voice sounded from behind.

The two turned around and saw an older woman. Qin Yi smiled and said:

“We are Xiyue’s good friends. She hasn’t been to school for a few days, so we came to see her.”

The old woman's face showed a hint of sorrow, and then she said:

"Don't you know? Miss is in the hospital, so I came back to cook for her."

Qin Yi and Wu Ke were taken aback, somewhat incredulous. "Hospitalized? Does Xi Yue have a cold?"

The old woman sighed. She was the cook for the Mu family and had always cooked for Mu Xiyue. How could she not know that the child was very weak? "It's an old ailment. I don't know the specifics."

After saying goodbye to the cook, Qin Yi and Wu Ke left the Mu family. After they left, the cook returned home, and a person came out from the corner of the wall on the right.

The boy's eyes were filled with pain, and his face was filled with extreme sorrow.

Without thinking much, he turned around and left the Mu family home. After leaving, he hailed a taxi and went to the hospital.

Nan Zhi was unaware that Qin Yi and Wu Ke were coming to see her, nor did she know that Gu Ying also knew about her illness. The Mu couple would visit her at the hospital once a day and then leave in a hurry. The housekeeper was taking care of her at the hospital and had even hired a caregiver.

Over the past three days, Nanzhi has been losing clumps of hair. It's clear that her hair is very sparse now, and it may not be long before it falls out completely.

Under the doctor's care, Nanzhi's pain has lessened.

But she knew that this was just a temporary reprieve. Her organs were failing, and now she could barely even hold a bowl. In fact, she was worse off than before.

Her body seemed completely out of her control, but Nan Zhi wasn't pessimistic; she just wanted to make the most of her last moments.

Her parents thought she didn't know, but she had overheard their conversation. She had at most three months to live, and the disease was incurable.

Besides, she was born with multiple illnesses, not just simple organ failure; it's just that the progression has accelerated. (The illnesses are purely fabricated.)

When Qin Yi and Wu Ke arrived, they saw that the girl on the bed was even paler, looking very fragile, like a porcelain doll that would break at the slightest touch.

Noticing someone approaching, Nan Zhi looked up and saw Qin Yi and Wu Ke. She smiled and asked, "What brings you here?"

Qin Yi and Wu Ke walked in together. Qin Yi frowned deeply. "Xi Yue, what's wrong with you?"

Wu Ke was equally worried.

Nan Zhi smiled and said, "It's just an old ailment. You can be discharged after a few days. Don't worry."

Hearing this, Wu Ke breathed a sigh of relief. She stepped forward and took Nan Zhi's hand. "You haven't come for three days. I thought you had stopped going to school."

Nanzhi shook her head, "How could that be? I'll go back to school after I'm discharged from the hospital. Thank you for coming to see me."

Wu Ke believed Nan Zhi's words, but Qin Yi didn't quite believe them. She looked too abnormal and too weak, which inevitably made people wonder.

"You forgot? We made plans to reunite the cats this weekend," Nanzhi joked with a laugh.

Wu Ke nodded, "Yes, I almost forgot if you hadn't mentioned it. But you should focus on getting better first. Once you're better, we can take care of the cat together."

Even at this moment, Nan Zhi's eyes were bright and sparkling. She smiled happily, "Yes, I really hope I can be discharged from the hospital soon."

"Yes, you will definitely be discharged from the hospital."

Qin Yi suddenly spoke, his face full of determination. Nan Zhi felt a warmth in her heart; at least there were still people who genuinely cared about her.

At that moment, Gu Ying also secretly came over. He stood at the door and looked through the crack at his sister Xi Xi, who was pale and sickly, but was smiling optimistically at Wu Ke and Qin Yi. Gu Ying felt sorry for her, but suddenly he didn't dare to go in.

He was afraid that his sister would blame him and not want to see him. Thinking of this, Gu Ying's body trembled and his eyes stung.

He could even hear the conversation inside.

Hearing Wu Ke speak ill of Shen Xingmian, Xi Yue said, "You should stay away from Shen Xingmian in the future. He's a cold-blooded animal. You haven't come for three days, and he doesn't seem worried at all. From now on, Qin Yi and I will be your good friends, keep you company, and come to your house to play often."

Qin Yi silently tugged at Wu Ke's clothes and shook his head at her. Nan Zhi's eyes dimmed, but Qin Yi caught her gaze in that instant.

Wu Ke probably realized that it was inappropriate to say that in front of the patient, so she stopped talking.
