"Get lost, you're a liar, I'll never believe you again."
Liu Li pushed Nan Zhi down, a flash of annoyance in his eyes, but instead of helping her up, he said the most hurtful things, "I hate you the most. Your hypocrisy is disgusting. Take your pity and charity and get lost."
Nan Zhi's face turned pale. How could things have turned out like this? She was perfectly fine this morning. She braced herself on the ground, staring at Liu Li in disbelief, wondering why he would think this way.
Liu Li turned his head away and refused to look at her anymore.
Gu Ying's expression grew increasingly grim. He walked over, reached out to help Nan Zhi up, and instinctively shielded her behind him. Although he didn't know why Nan Zhi insisted on adopting this child, Gu Ying knew that she had been deeply concerned about him, including her trip to the orphanage to find the boy.
He also did some research and found that the child had never had any connection with Nanzhi. But since Nanzhi wanted to adopt him, then so be it. However, this did not mean that the boy could take his anger out on Nanzhi without restraint.
"Liu Li, I can roughly understand what you're thinking."
Gu Ying's gaze fell on the boy. Although her speech was slow, it contained a hint of hostility. "It's nothing more than that you've been wronged and want to find someone to vent to. And this person who wants to be your mother is just the right person. You probably figured out how much tolerance she has for you, so you shouted at her without any fear and vented your anger on her."
As if someone had touched a sore spot, Liu Li shook his head, "I didn't, you're talking nonsense."
Nan Zhi felt a little sad when she heard Gu Ying say that, but she didn't want Gu Ying to continue, afraid that he would say something unpleasant. So she reached out and pulled Gu Ying. Gu Ying turned his head and gave her a smile, and whispered, "Don't worry."
She then chuckled, "Really? I was just kidding, let's just say that's how it is."
She continued, "Your adoptive father's behavior this morning frightened you. You were afraid that we would just leave and never come back to find you, afraid that we would abandon you. When your adoptive father was taken away by the police, even your last glimmer of hope was shattered. You thought that we had abandoned you, and the more you thought about it, the more you felt that we were untrustworthy, especially this person who claimed to be your mother. A trace of hatred even arose in your heart. If she hadn't come to provoke you in the first place, you wouldn't have had any hope. So, as soon as you met her, you used your worst temper and the worst attitude you've ever shown to anyone else."
"Stop talking, you're lying, I never thought that way."
Liu Li covered his ears. He was scared, really scared. The man was so accurate. That was exactly what he thought, but he didn't want to admit it.
"You can think I'm talking nonsense. You only spent one day together, so of course you'd doubt her sincerity. But how much do you really know? She went to the orphanage in Beijing to find you. After discovering you'd been adopted, she immediately went to find your adoptive parents, eager to see if you were doing well. She thought that if you were doing well, she would be happy; if you weren't, she would find a way to bring you home. Yet you keep doubting her sincerity. Ask yourself, what do you have that would make someone want to take advantage of you?"
By the end, Gu Ying couldn't help but raise his voice in anger. These were treatments he had never received, yet this child was showing disdain for them and even bullying him. It was simply hateful.
After hearing so much from Gu Ying, Liu Li stared wide-eyed at Nan Zhi in disbelief, noticing the worry on her face.
She grabbed the man's clothes and said to him, "Aying, go out and don't say anything more."
Gu Ying looked at Nan Zhi and said angrily, "Xi Xi, I don't want you to suffer."
Nanzhi smiled and shook her head, "I'm not wronged, because he's more wronged than I am."
Gu Ying sighed, "Call me if anything happens later."
Nan Zhi nodded, and after Gu Ying turned and left, Liu Li was still staring blankly at Nan Zhi.
With tears still clinging to the corners of his eyes, Nanzhi walked over, squatted down in front of him again, and reached out to wipe away his tears silently.
"Is he... telling the truth?"
Nan Zhi paused, looked at Liu Li with a smile, just like when they first met. Although they had only known each other for two days, Liu Li felt a rare sense of familiarity with this woman.
“These are all things from the past. Whether they are true or false, my desire to be good to you and my heart as your mother has never changed. Today, it was because your adoptive father suddenly changed his mind that we had to go to the police station for a while, which caused the delay. I did not abandon you.”
Hearing these words from that gentle face, Liu Li burst into tears again, throwing himself into Nan Zhi's arms, "Waaah..."
Nanzhi sighed. "Oh, it breaks my heart. I remember how lively Miaomiaoji used to be, but now he's sobbing uncontrollably in my arms." Nanzhi gently patted his back. "Actually, I came too late. If I had gone to the orphanage before you were adopted, you wouldn't have suffered so much."
Nan Zhi still felt guilty. This child should have been adopted by Shen Xingmian, but because 'Nan Zhi' died, and she brought Nan Zhi back to life, Shen Xingmian did not adopt the child.
"Waaah... I'm sorry, I... I shouldn't have doubted you, I shouldn't have... scolded you, I lied."
Liu Li choked up for a moment, then hugged Nan Zhi tightly, "Actually, I really... really like you, I'm sorry."
Nan Zhi chuckled, "I'm glad you like him." She reached out and hugged the boy tightly, "I like you very much too, little one."
The little boy was still quite awkward. He wiped away his tears and looked at Nanzhi, "Are you really going to adopt me?"
Nanzhi smiled and patted his head. "My husband and I are going to adopt you together. Once the formalities are completed, you will be our child."
Liu Li couldn't help but smile. Who would have thought that someone who had no desires and no hope yesterday would suddenly have such a turn of events today? "Thank you."
Nanzhi smiled and said, "From now on, I'm your mother. You don't need to thank me. Just tell us what you want, and we'll give it to you."
Liu Li seemed a little embarrassed. His lips moved, but his voice was very soft and low, so much so that Nan Zhi couldn't hear him clearly. However, her eyes lit up, and she asked:
What did you just say?
Liu Li was a little embarrassed, his face flushed as he shook his head, "No, I didn't say anything."
Nanzhi looked at him with a smile, "I heard you call for Mom just now, didn't you?"
Liu Li's small face flushed slightly, and she clutched the hem of her clothes with both hands, suddenly feeling a little lost.
Nanzhi couldn't stop laughing. "Shout it again, I want to hear it."
Liu Li looked up at her, then whispered, "Mom... Mom."
"Little one, you are so cute."
Nanzhi reached out and covered Liu Li's cheek, rubbing it with a smile.
