Chapter 105 Old Man Shen's Illness

"Zhizhi, it's been so long since you last visited Grandpa, hasn't it?"

Old Shen held Nanzhi's hand and spoke.

Nan Zhi smiled and helped Old Master Shen to the sofa in the living room. "Grandpa Shen, please sit down. I heard from Shen Xingmian that you are not feeling well, so I came to see you."

Old Master Shen glared at Shen Xingmian before smiling and taking Nanzhi's hand. "Don't listen to Xingmian's nonsense. Grandpa is in good health."

Upon hearing this, Nanzhi felt slightly relieved and began to chat with Old Shen about some interesting topics and amusing things that had happened around them.

Despite his advanced age, Old Shen is very good at supporting others. He can chime in on anything Nan Zhi says and even offer his own opinions.

Shen Xingmian felt completely ignored and had no standing in front of her grandfather.

However, based on his understanding of his grandfather, it was impossible that he would just chat with Nanzhi.

Old Shen and Nan Zhi were chatting animatedly, laughing heartily, and then Old Shen turned to Butler Cai beside him and said:

"Go to the kitchen and have dinner prepared. Zhizhi can eat here tonight."

Nan Zhi nodded with a grin, "I'm just here to freeload a meal."

Old Shen chuckled, glanced at his grandson sitting on the single sofa to the side, and the wrinkles on his forehead instantly gathered, clearly showing his displeasure. He said:

"You brat, Zhizhi is such a good girl, you'd better treat her well, or I'll be the first to make your life miserable."

Shen Xingmian: "......"

He didn't seem to say anything.

Seeing that Shen Xingmian remained silent, Old Master Shen reached out and slapped Shen Xingmian on the head. "Did you hear me?"

Seeing Shen Xingmian's discomfiture, Nan Zhi pursed her lips and couldn't help but cover her mouth and laugh.

Old Shen then looked at Nanzhi again, grinning with his gap-toothed mouth: "Zhizhi, if this brat dares to bully you in the future, you must tell Grandpa, and Grandpa will teach him a lesson for you."

Nanzhi smiled brightly, swinging her ponytail, "I understand, Grandpa."

They were having a pleasant conversation, and Mr. Shen was laughing heartily.

Unexpectedly, at this moment, an accident occurred. Old Shen suddenly turned pale, clutched his chest, and his whole body trembled.

Nanzhi immediately became anxious, "Grandpa, Grandpa, what's wrong?"

Old Shen just clutched his chest and trembled, unable to speak. Shen Xingmian was watching from the side, assuming the old man was acting, but after a few seconds, he clearly realized something was wrong.

So he immediately told the housekeeper to call the private doctor. The Shen family's private doctor had been living here all along, just in case Old Master Shen had any emergencies.

Then, supporting the old man, her tone became somewhat anxious:

"Grandpa, hang in there a little longer, the doctor will be here soon."

Within a minute, the private doctor rushed over with his medical kit.

Nan Zhi and Shen Xingmian simply laid Old Shen flat on the sofa, not daring to move him, for fear of causing a problem.

When the doctor arrived, he quickly examined him. In the end, his expression became more and more serious, and it was clear that Old Shen's health was not very good.

Fortunately, the doctor arrived in time and quickly stabilized Mr. Shen's condition.

"Doctor, how is my grandfather?"

Upon hearing Shen Xingmian's question, the doctor dared not conceal anything and solemnly replied:

"Last time we checked on Mr. Shen, his condition wasn't very good, but fortunately there was nothing seriously wrong. But today's case is a bit dangerous; it's an acute myocardial infarction. We should go to the hospital for a thorough check-up, and he'll need long-term treatment afterward."

Nan Zhi was surprised, not expecting that Old Shen's condition was so serious. However, as people age, they are bound to have many complications. No one had expected Old Shen to suddenly fall into this situation.

After listening to the doctor's words, Shen Xingmian exuded a somber aura. Nan Zhi took his hand, and the man's hand was unusually cold.

He must have been terrified too.

Shen Xingmian glanced down at her and a smile played on her lips:

"Zhizhi, I'll have someone take you home. I'll take Grandpa to the hospital in a bit."

Nanzhi shook her head at him, "I'll go with you. Grandpa's health is more important."

Shen Xingmian called an ambulance and contacted the Beijing hospital in advance. The most authoritative team was waiting at the hospital for Old Master Shen's arrival.

When they arrived at the hospital, Mr. Shen underwent a full-body examination, and the final results were similar to what the private doctor had predicted.

This disease might still have a chance of recovery for young people, but Mr. Shen is already old, so he can only take precautions to prevent such sudden situations from happening again, and he will need to take medication every day.

Old Shen was hospitalized. Nanzhi told her parents and then went to see him every day. Every time the old man had an attack, it was as if he was about to die, and his complexion was very bad.

Mr. and Mrs. Nan also visited twice, and Mr. Shen was very happy.

"It looks like I won't live much longer."

He spoke with a hint of sarcasm.

Bai Yarou smiled and said, "Old Shen will live to be a hundred years old, don't think nonsense."

Nanzhi sat by the hospital bed peeling an apple. Old Shen glanced at her. His grandson was busy with work, but Nanzhi came to see him every day. True feelings are revealed in times of trouble. Nanzhi is a really good girl.

He knows his own body best. His grandson is already thirty. He'll be very satisfied if he can live another two years.

“Father-in-law, this old man has only one wish: to see Xingmian and Zhizhi get married. I would like to ask what you think.”

Nan's father and mother exchanged a glance. Their children had been engaged for over a year, so it wouldn't be abrupt for them to get married.

The two then looked at Old Man Shen and said:

"We're looking after the child's perspective."

So Mr. Shen turned his gaze to Nanzhi, who had just finished pruning an apple and handed it to him.

The old man accepted it with a smile, saying, "Thank you so much, Zhizhi, for coming to keep me company all day."

Nanzhi shook her head and smiled, "It's no trouble at all. Grandpa's speedy recovery is the most important thing."

Old Shen looked at Nanzhi, "Zhizhi, I've talked to your parents about this. I don't know what you think? Are you willing to marry Xingmian? He's thirty years old. Grandpa also hopes to see him get married before he dies. If I can live a couple more years, I'd like to hold my great-grandson."

Upon hearing this, Nanzhi blushed. Discussing the issue of having children in front of her elders was something even the thick-skinned Nanzhi found hard to bear.

Seeing that Nanzhi remained silent, Old Shen continued:

“Zhizhi, if you really don’t want to, Grandpa won’t force you. You’re a good child. If you still have any complaints about my Xingmian, then it’s his bad luck.”

Nanzhi's eyes welled up with tears. The old man genuinely wanted her to stay with his grandson, and Nanzhi wouldn't back down any longer.

Here, she has no choice but to be with Shen Xingmian; there's no way she can tolerate anyone else.

So she nodded, "Grandpa, I'm willing."

A glint of light flashed in the old man's eyes, and he seemed somewhat stunned. "Really?"

Nanzhi nodded, "Really."
