"You...are you leaving?"
Nanzhi didn't quite believe what she was hearing.
Shen Xingmian nodded. "I've saved up quite a bit of money these days. Thank you for taking us in for so long. It's time to go out and rely on ourselves."
Nan Zhi tried to force a smile, but she suddenly found that her lips were so stiff that she couldn't even manage a smile.
The butler was also in the restaurant. Seeing the two's determination to leave, he could only sigh. After all, everyone has their own life and can't stay here forever. It's just a pity that the young lady will be alone again.
"Let me think about it."
Nan Zhi looked at Gu Ying and Shen Xingmian and spoke.
"We had already agreed that we wouldn't be coming this afternoon since we don't have much stuff."
Shen Xingmian could see the girl's sadness and shock, but he couldn't be soft-hearted; hesitation would only lead to more trouble.
Upon hearing this, Nan Zhi sneered:
"So...you're just informing me?"
Neither of them spoke, and Nanzhi knew their resolve. Her eyes were filled with pain. After a long while, she put down her chopsticks and said:
"Okay, I'll let you go."
On the way to school, the carriage was quiet, and none of the three spoke. After getting off the train, Shen Xingmian wanted to see Nanzhi up as usual, but Nanzhi stopped him, saying, "No need."
Then she looked at the driver and said, "Take me to class, and come pick me up early this afternoon."
The driver nodded. "Okay, miss."
After saying that, he pushed his wheelchair toward the teaching building.
As Gu Ying watched Nan Zhi's figure gradually disappear into the distance, he was so sad that he almost cried. He looked up at Shen Xingmian and said, "Brother Xingmian, did we do the right thing? Look how sad Sister Xixi is."
Shen Xingmian felt a dull ache in his heart. His hands, hanging by his sides, were clenched tightly together, his nails almost drawing blood from his palms. The veins on the back of his hands bulged, showing how much pain he was enduring.
The pain in my chest was a series of waves of agony.
"Just bear with it, it will pass. Ah Ying, we must be firm, otherwise Xi Xi will suffer even more in the future."
After saying that, Shen Xingmian walked away.
Gu Ying thought about it and could only suppress his reluctance. In any case, he would try his best to avoid Sister Xixi.
When they arrived at the classroom, Nan Zhi was already sitting in her seat, looking out the window. Shen Xingmian paused, then instead of going in, she knocked on Qin Yi's door.
Upon seeing him, Qin asked in confusion, "What's the matter?"
Shen Xingmian said calmly, "Let's switch seats."
Qin Yi: "......."
A moment later, his eyes widened in disbelief. "You said you want to switch seats with me?"
Shen Xingmian nodded, and Qin Yi felt that this world was surreal.
"But why? Didn't you send me here in the first place?"
Shen Xingmian glanced down at the floor and then said, "I just think it's nice to sit alone. This is the only chance. If you don't switch, I'll find someone else."
Seeing him say that, Qin Yi quickly nodded with a smile, "Okay, okay, I'll go right away."
After saying that, he picked up his schoolbag and walked towards where Shen Xingmian had been, which was next to Nan Zhi.
After he went over, he put his schoolbag directly on the table, patted Nanzhi's arm, and said with a smile:
"Hello, new deskmate."
Nan Zhi turned around and saw Qin Yi. She frowned. "What are you doing here?"
Qin Yi sat down directly and shrugged. "Shen Xingmian asked to switch seats with me. What? You don't welcome me?"
Nanzhi remained expressionless and silent.
If Qin Yi still can't see that there's a problem between the two of them, he must be out of his mind.
He tried asking, "Are you unhappy? Did you have a fight with Shen Xingmian?"
Nanzhi glanced at him. "I wasn't unhappy, and we didn't argue. He wasn't an important person to begin with."
Qin Yi thought, "You're just saying that, aren't you? This isn't even an important person. If they weren't important, why would I have kept them for so long?"
Seeing that Nanzhi was in a bad mood, Qin Yi didn't ask any further questions, thinking he would wait until Nanzhi was in a better mood tomorrow before continuing.
But he didn't expect that Nanzhi would never come to the school again.
Nan Zhi thought that her body should be able to live for a few more years, since apart from severe hair loss, she had no other problems or discomfort.
Who would have thought that I would be hospitalized so suddenly.
That afternoon, while the driver was picking her up to go home, she suddenly felt a pain in her chest, and then felt pain all over her body. Her face turned pale and looked terrible. The driver quickly called the housekeeper.
They took her to the hospital, but Nanzhi was already unconscious when they arrived.
Nan Zhi's last thought before she fainted was, what if she couldn't make it through? She hadn't yet explained things to Shen Xingmian.
When Nanzhi woke up again, she saw Mu Zi and his wife with red eyes.
The housekeeper stood sadly to the side.
The feeling of weakness in her body left Nanzhi feeling powerless.
Her face was pale, and her lips were almost frighteningly white.
"Dad, Mom."
With a weak cry, Mu Zi and her husband immediately knelt down in front of the bed. Facing their daughter, they smiled, though the smile seemed too pale and powerless.
"My darling daughter, you're awake? Tell Daddy if you feel unwell, okay?"
Nan Zhi shook her head, a pale smile tugging at her lips. "I'm fine, don't worry about me."
Seeing her daughter like this, Mu Xiyue's mother couldn't help but turn away from her and tears streamed down her face. Her daughter had been tormented by illness since she was a child. Later, when her health improved, she stopped being hospitalized. More than ten years had passed, but who knew that this time it would come so fiercely? Thinking of what the doctor had said, Mu Xiyue's mother couldn't help but cry.
Nan Zhi wasn't a child. As soon as she woke up and saw their expressions, she realized that she was probably beyond saving.
Ultimately, this was a stolen moment in her life. She might not be able to return to the book after she dies, or she might; it was, after all, stolen time.
"Qin Yi, why didn't Xi Yue come today?"
Wu Ke sensed something was wrong. She looked at Qin Yi and asked suspiciously, "Do you know?"
This is the third day. Mu Xiyue has taken three days off, and no one knows what's going on.
Shen Xingmian could naturally sense this, and his worries grew stronger. He didn't even dare to tell Gu Ying about it.
Qin Yi shook her head. "I don't know."
He was puzzled, but no one answered when he called Uncle Mu yesterday. He decided to go to the Mu family today. He had spent a lot of time with Nan Zhi and they were true friends. Qin Yi couldn't possibly ignore this.
"How about we go check out Xiyue's house?"
Just as she was thinking this, Wu Ke asked a question. Qin Yi was slightly taken aback, then nodded, "Then let's go to the Mu family this afternoon."
Wu Ke was also worried about Nan Zhi. Qin Yi had been planning to go there anyway. He was going alone or with someone else, so they might as well go together.
Shen Xingmian sat alone in that spot, feeling uneasy. For some reason, during the three days that Nanzhi hadn't come, he always felt a tightness in his chest.
