It was unknown how long it had been since King Xiaowen of Qin had left when a voice slowly began to rise in the court. Someone, who was not sure who, asked Meng Ao, "Shangqing, you haven't offered any advice. Tell me, how can we send the crown prince to govern the country and then establish the grandson as the heir apparent?"
"That's so unreasonable. Why didn't you question the king in court just now?" Meng Ao glanced at the man and snorted coldly. "I actually think it's quite good. Prince Chu has the demeanor of a king, and Prince Zheng can take Qin to a higher level. Why can't he be the crown prince or grandson?! Or do you think the king is benevolent and have the idea of dividing Jin among the three families?!"
The man was so frightened that his legs went limp. He quickly knelt on the ground, kowtowed and begged for mercy, fearing that he would be killed by the vicious old man in front of him.
Meng Ao didn't want to look at that man again. After all, he was just a small figure. What he said was given by the person behind him. As for which young master was behind him, it was hard to say.
After all, if the grandson had not been appointed as the crown prince, they would still have been able to fight for the position regardless of whether Prince Chu sat on it or not. If the grandson was appointed as the crown prince, how could uncles inherit the position from their nephews?
"Meng Wu, why are you still standing there in a daze? Come over and help me get home?" Meng Ao shouted at the guards standing in the distance.
Upon hearing this, the guard hurried over and jogged over, helping Meng Ao out of the hall. After what happened before, no one dared to ask about these things. After all, the older generation Meng Ao had tacitly accepted the result. Could anyone else jump out of the army?
Supported by Meng Wu, Meng Ao slowly walked out of the hall. When he reached Ying Zichu, he paused slightly, bowed, and said, "In the future, this old minister will still rely on the divine power of Your Majesty. May Your Majesty live a thousand years."
Ying Zichu quickly returned the greeting, saying, "Excuse me, my Lord. I will need to rely on you a lot in the future. I hope you will not find me a nuisance."
"This old minister doesn't like trouble." Meng Ao laughed, stroked his beard, and said, "But this good-for-nothing son of yours does like trouble. In the future, I will let Meng Wu learn from the king."
After saying that, he flicked his long sleeves, pushed Meng Wu away, and walked out of the hall on his own.
Ying Zichu understood the hidden meaning of Meng Ao's words, so he naturally bowed to Meng Wu and said, "I will trouble you from now on, General."
Meng Wu quickly returned the greeting and said, "Your Majesty, you are very polite. It's not a big deal. However, Meng Que has received a lot of favors from Your Majesty in Zhao State. I will come to the palace to express my gratitude in the future."
After that, he bowed again and hurriedly chased after Meng Ao. Ying Zichu was not angry, but looked at Meng Wu's back with special appreciation. After all, the Meng family represented the interests of half of the army, and Meng Wu was the next heir of the Meng family.
Ying Zheng followed King Xiaowen of Qin back to the harem. Along the way, he saw admiring faces everywhere, which made Chen Xuan particularly unhappy.
After all, it was he who brought all the prestige to King Xiaowen of Qin.
"Zheng'er, do you know why I want to make you the crown prince today?" King Xiaowen of Qin suddenly asked, holding Ying Zheng's hand.
Ying Zheng blinked, raised his hand and touched Chen Xuan, then replied: "Because Grandfather Wang loves Zheng'er."
King Xiaowen of Qin smiled and patted Ying Zheng's head. "That's just one reason, but it's not the main one. Zheng'er, you must remember that you can't choose an heir based on personal preference. Sometimes what you like may not be what the country likes. Do you understand?"
Ying Zheng rubbed his head and laughed, "Zheng'er doesn't understand. I only know that I will be able to accomplish what my ancestors couldn't in the future."
King Qin Xiaowen's eyes gleamed, and he said, "Zheng'er, do you still know what our ancestors wanted to do? I'd like to hear it and see if what Zheng'er wants to do is what our ancestors left unfinished."
"Annex the six kingdoms and unify the four seas."
King Xiaowen of Qin looked at the child in front of him. Even his father, King Zhaoxiang of Qin, was only able to use the power of Bai Qi, the "Human Butcher", to pull the Nine Cauldrons of Zhou into Xianyang. Also because of Bai Qi's reputation as the "Human Butcher", he only pulled off the fig leaf of Zhou and failed to destroy the country.
Even so, his father, King Zhaoxiang of Qin, would have become a figure not seen in the eight hundred years of the Zhou Dynasty. As for what Ying Zheng had just said, King Xiaowen of Qin couldn't say for sure if his ancestors had even considered it, but he certainly hadn't. This unimagined path would surely be incredibly difficult.
However, King Xiaowen of Qin did not know where he got the confidence from, but he actually believed the child's lies, as if this path was designed for this child.
"Zheng'er, do you know that even your great-grandfather, with the divine power of Wu'an Jun, could only defeat the armies of the six kingdoms, defend Hangu Pass, and govern Qin. How could you have such thoughts?"
King Xiaowen of Qin felt his throat was a little dry. He stopped, squatted and looked directly at the ignorant child.
He seemed to see a real dragon roaring. This real dragon was different from the one he saw in his childhood. That one was like a loach in the mud, but this one was a real dragon!
"Zheng'er, go ahead and do it." King Xiaowen of Qin suddenly became open-minded. "Even if you lose the Qin State, I and my ancestors will not blame you."
After leaving the court, Ying Zichu bid farewell to the extremely hypocritical flattery and returned to the palace with a fake smile facing a group of jealous eyes.
Lu Buwei had been waiting by the door for a long time. For some reason, his ears and eyes had disappeared yesterday. It could be said that the only thing he was proud of was gone.
"Sir, why are you waiting by the door?" Ying Zichu frowned as he led Lu Buwei inside. "Damn those servants! They didn't even serve us a cup of hot tea."
"Your Majesty, you think highly of me." Lü Buwei greeted him with awe and trepidation, his original arrogance suppressed. "I am just a merchant. How can I withstand such courtesy from Your Majesty?"
