Ever since the queen passed away, the State of Qi has lost its original appearance.
When the king and queen were still alive, King Jing of Qi (King Jian of Qi) was somewhat restrained, and the Prime Minister Hou Sheng was not so arrogant and domineering.
Things are different now. The queen has been dead for two or three years, and now the State of Qi is in the hands of King Jing of Qi and Hou Sheng.
"Your Majesty, the envoy from Wei is here again." Hou Sheng said cautiously, looking at King Jing of Qi who was fishing in the pond in the bedroom, appearing quite respectful.
He was the younger brother of the Queen and the uncle of King Jing of Qi. He was the man who brought up this absurd emperor.
During the alliance meeting a few days ago, they had already received a lot of Qin's treasures. Otherwise, how could Qi have given Qin such a favor? And how could they have really offered tribute?
It was just what the Qin State "offered", and some of it was returned.
It's more or less a matter of face, and Qi State doesn't need face now.
"Can you give me something?" King Jing of Qi frowned slightly as he looked at the fish that had escaped from the fishing rod. He then looked at Hou Sheng and asked, "If the gift doesn't suit my taste, there's no need to bring it in."
"The envoy said it was a rare treasure. I think it's rare too, but I don't know if it will catch the king's eye."
Why would they only give one thing? Although they didn't give much gold, they did give a lot of other things. This so-called rare treasure was only of medium or above average value.
After all, Hou Sheng was a powerful figure. Although he still had to respect his nephew, it was only superficial respect.
"My uncle said it is a rare treasure, so it must be rare. Please have someone bring it up so that I can have a good look at it." King Jing of Qi put down the fishing rod with a smile and waved his hand to let Hou Sheng go and get the thing quickly.
He understood the after-victory, and since he found the after-victory interesting, it must be something special.
After all, he was raised by his uncle since childhood, so King Jing of Qi was particularly close to him, his uncle, not to mention that it was Hou Sheng who took him out to play.
"Yes." Hou Sheng responded and took out a palm-sized bronze bird from his sleeve.
There is nothing special about this bird. It just hides its head under its wings, with only its beak showing, and its wings are half-retracted and half-open, as if it is about to sing.
But this kind of thing is not rare or fun.
King Jing of Qi was unhappy, but after all, it was Hou Sheng who had promised it, so he naturally had to listen to his explanation.
"I don't know what's so special about these things, uncle? If you like them, I'll send you a dozen or so to play with."
Hou Sheng knew that King Jing of Qi did not like this thing very much, but he had already swallowed all the other things and had made great promises to the envoy of Wei State, so there was no reason why he could not succeed.
Naturally, he lifted the object and respectfully placed it before King Jing of Qi. Then Sheng continued, "If it were an ordinary artifact, it wouldn't be considered rare. But this object is naturally this way, and there's no artificial carving.
If Your Majesty does not believe me, you can take it and examine it carefully to see if I have deceived you."
After saying that, he respectfully pushed the thing forward again and stuffed it directly into King Jing of Qi's hands, leaving him no way to refuse.
I was also interested, so I took a few more glances.
This sight was incredible. He felt that this thing was particularly destined for him. A word suddenly popped up in his mind and he almost shouted it out.
He simply held back, and a surge of rationality that came from nowhere stopped this absurd king.
King Jing of Qi coughed lightly to make his words sound normal: "This thing is indeed not carved by a craftsman, but it is worthy of the name of being rare.
Since Wei is so sincere, let's meet them. Please, my uncle, go and tell them that I have something to do today. I can meet the envoy tomorrow to discuss important matters."
The State of Wei had come here once a few days ago, but at that time they were still young and inexperienced and had not sent anything.
How could Hou Sheng say something good about such behavior, and how could King Jing of Qi be willing to meet him?
The Qin State had just sent a generous gift, but would say it had to return half of it, but what it received was still abundant.
Even the Qin State, which was far away in the west, behaved like this. At that time, the Qin State was still a top power with its military strength still sharp and the war was about to end, but it still gave face to Qi.
How could Wei State succeed in getting something for nothing now?
Fortunately, he learned to be smart this time and knew how to give things.
Now that he's figured it out, why not take a look? Not to mention the attraction this thing holds for King Jing of Qi.
If it really does benefit us, then what's wrong with launching an army to attack Qin?
Hou Sheng did not notice the unusual behavior of King Jing of Qi. He just thought that King Jing of Qi saw something strange and wanted to play with it.
Since he was just being playful, then his words were just a way to get him out. Hou Sheng naturally understood what he was saying, and he didn't want to spoil the king's fun, so he excused himself and walked out.
King Jing of Qi stayed for a while, holding the bronze bird tightly in his hand until his palm ached.
He was fishing without any maids or guards around to watch over him, for fear of disturbing his interest. If the person who just barged in wasn't Hou Sheng, anyone else would probably have gone down to feed the fish.
Now that Hou Sheng had left, and no one else dared to come in, King Jing of Qi finally let out the words he had been holding back: "If I don't make a sound, I'll be nothing. But if I do, I'll make a stunning debut!"
The bronze bird seemed to be alive, slowly stretching its body until its head was completely exposed and its mouth was fully open.
An astonishing bird song sounded in King Jing of Qi's ears, echoed in his mind, and went all the way into his heart.
The absurd temperament seemed to be killed in an instant, and King Jing of Qi now seemed like a different person, appearing particularly majestic and weird.
