Chapter 195, Gambling

Chapter 195, Gambling

It was the middle of the night and the downstairs was still bustling. Those people with special abilities seemed to have no intention of resting. The noisy sounds came into the room and Jiang Ran sat up, hugging the quilt.

There was no one around, and she looked around the room but didn't see Si Xu.

"Wow, that guy wouldn't really run downstairs to find the young lady, right?" Jiang Ran muttered, changed his clothes, and walked out of the room.

"Hey, Miss Jiang, are you still awake?"

The woman was pushing and shoving her way up the stairs with a handsome young man. When she saw Jiang Ran, she stopped and asked with a smile.

The man put his arm around her waist, and when he heard her voice, he looked at Jiang Ran.

"Is this tonight's guest?"

Huo Lingyin patted his face and smiled: "Yes, little sister is pretty, look at you, your eyes are wide open."

The man grabbed her hand and said coquettishly, "How could that be? It's obvious that you ignored me the moment you saw her. I'm just curious."

"Haha, smooth talk."

Jiang Ran looked at the two people in front of her quietly. After they finished talking back and forth, she asked, "Have you seen Si Xu?"

"Your boyfriend? I saw him." The young man pointed downstairs, "He's downstairs."

Jiang Ran nodded in thanks.

"Little sister, I'm just kindly reminding you." The young man smiled, as if watching a show, "The situation downstairs right now is not suitable for a delicate girl like you to go down there."

Jiang Ran raised an eyebrow: "It's okay, I'm immune to all poisons."

She nodded slightly to the two of them, then walked around them and went downstairs.

When brushing past the girl, Huo Lingyin's nostrils twitched and he sighed softly: "It smells so good, it's the smell of desire."

Jiang Ran didn't stop and cursed silently: "Pervert."

After the woman finished her sigh, she pulled the young man into the house.

The door was not closed tightly, and various ambiguous sounds could be heard faintly from inside.

Jiang Ran curled her lips and went downstairs.

The place Huo Lingyin chose to stay was a small manor similar to a courtyard house, with buildings on three sides surrounding the central courtyard.

At this moment, more than ten bonfires were burning in the courtyard, lighting up the dark yard as if it were daytime.

Cheers came from the courtyard.

The members of the Ability Team crowded around the yard, watching something with great interest, and bursting into applause and cheers from time to time.

Jiang Ran’s view was blocked by a group of people crowded in front, and he couldn’t see what was going on inside.

She jumped on the spot, but still couldn't see it.

The girl looked around, returned to the living room, dragged a chair, climbed onto it and looked out.

In addition to the bonfire in the courtyard, there were two entangled figures.

The one above is a human, with a zombie underneath him. He is waving his fist and hitting the zombie's face hard.

With each punch, rotten flesh splattered everywhere.

A hole was smashed into the zombie's head by a fist, and the zombie's struggles gradually decreased. Finally, amid cheers, it stopped moving.

The man stood up, the shadows cast by the dancing flames cut a dividing line between light and darkness on his face. His eyes were fierce, like a hungry wolf. When he swept across the crowd, the cheers inexplicably weakened a bit.

"Not bad, one minute and seven seconds." In a corner of the courtyard, a man stood on a decorative pillar and shouted out the time. "The one who bet on the left wins!"

"Wow! I won on my first bet!"

"Haha, there's nothing wrong with following the deputy captain! Keep going!"

"I earned thirty points this time, which is much easier than going on a mission!"

Recognizing the man on the pillar as the deputy captain who had received them in the evening, Jiang Ran heard the excited chatter of the people in front of him, patted one of them on the shoulder and asked curiously: "What are you doing?"

The man turned around and the moment he saw her face, his impatience was instantly replaced by a smile.

"Are you the captain's guest? Why are you coming down?"

"I heard some noise down there, so I came down to take a look out of curiosity." Jiang Ran saw another zombie being released into the yard from the corner of his eye, and frowned, "What are you doing?"

"It's a gambling game, to kill time." Since the person asking the question was a beautiful woman, the team member was polite. "We're bored, so we'll have a gambling game like this. Let the ordinary people and the zombies play with their bare hands, and bet on which side will win."

"Ordinary people?"

"Yeah, just an ordinary guy we picked up on the street." The boy was young and didn't think there was anything wrong with this action. "The captain said, it's useless anyway, so why not use it for some fun?"

"That man is an ordinary person? What if he loses?"

"If you lose, you lose. What can you do?" The boy seemed to find the question strange and pointed to a corner of the courtyard. "Those are the losers."

A corner of the courtyard was filled with bloody corpses.

"But that man is pretty strong too." The boy rambled on. "This is already the sixth zombie he's fought. If he loses, it will be those people's turn."

He muttered, "I think he should be exhausted now. Should we bet on the opposing team this time?" He glanced disdainfully at the group of old, weak, and sick people huddled in the corner of the courtyard. "Those people are bound to lose too. Let's just bet on the opposing team from now on..."

Jiang Ran's mouth twitched as he squeezed out a sentence: "You guys, let the living fight the zombies, and then earn points from it?"

"Uh." With the beauty before him, the young man realized that the girl was just an ordinary person. A glint of disdain flashed in his eyes. "Those guys haven't awakened their special abilities, and they don't contribute much to the construction of the base. Isn't it a waste of food to keep them? They're just feeding the zombies anyway, so why not give us some fun?"

The boy said it as a matter of course, as if it was supposed to be this way.

Jiang Ran was silent.

Outside, the deputy captain had already started another gambling game and asked everyone to place their bets.

Jiang Ran asked, "Can I place a bet?"

The boy nodded repeatedly: "Sure." Thinking of the chips, he hesitated, "But you don't have any points."

"I have it." Jiang Ran took out an ID card. "This is universal for the four major bases, right?"

"Ah." Recognizing her ID card, the boy nodded, "Yes, it's universal."

"Okay." Jiang Ran jumped off the chair and squeezed in through the crowd.

In the courtyard, the zombies were being pulled by ropes by the psychic. They smelled the smell of blood and flesh and kept rushing towards the man.

The man had a wound on his arm and blood was dripping from his fingers onto the ground.

He pressed the wound and looked coldly at the zombies opposite.

Behind him, people were curled up in tattered clothes, huddled together, wanting to cry but not daring to cry out loud.

"Hey, hey, hey, place your bets! Which side are you betting on? Hurry up! There's no waiting!"

The deputy captain shouted.

Among the huddled crowd, a thin girl rushed out and grabbed the man's shirt, saying urgently, "That's enough! You've already won! They promised to let you go. Leave us alone! We don't need you to risk your life for us! Please..."

At the end of her words, she choked up and burst into tears: "Please, leave us alone."

The man clenched his bleeding fingers, said nothing, and did not look back.

"Did you hear that?! Hurry up!" The vice-captain had obviously heard the girl's plea, and his voice rose a degree. "If you don't place your bet, he'll run away!"

Laughter broke out.

"Deputy Captain, which side do you think we should press?"

"I think that guy might be able to last one more round."

"Your face is so pale, I'm afraid it won't work."

"What about suppressing zombies? This zombie is quite strong."

"Suppress the zombies!"

"Yes, yes, crush the zombies!"

Amidst the men's shouts, a clear female voice was heard, drowning out all the other sounds.

“I suppress ordinary people.”

The shouting stopped abruptly.

Everyone looked in the direction of the sound.

The girl acted as if she didn't see anything and said calmly, "Excuse me."

Perhaps it was because her expression was too indifferent, or perhaps it was because her voice was too cold, the person blocking her way consciously made way.

Jiang Ran walked up to the deputy captain, holding the card between two fingers and shaking it: "There are more than 30,000 points on this card. If you don't believe me, you can check it out. I'm betting all of them on an ordinary person to win."
