Chapter 335: Killing the Chicken to Frighten the Monkey
After Jiang Ran finished speaking, the people in the conference room looked at each other, and then they remembered the fragmented whispers again.
"Being on guard against mutated zombies? Are you worried about the zombie wave like last time?"
“Heh, speaking of the zombie tide, if Shen Yang hadn’t sent out the people from Group Z last time, how could that happen?”
"That's true. What's going on now? My brother made a mistake, and I'm here to make amends for it? Humph, the zombie wave is over. Besides, increasing the patrol team isn't just an afterthought."
"That's right, a little girl who knows nothing but relies on Professor Si's favor to come into the conference room and give orders..."
"I heard it." The last sentence floated into Jiang Ran's ears. He looked at the person who spoke, his eyes moving, as if smiling.
Her voice was clear, easily drowning out all the noise, and her words were sharp and pressing: "Aren't these people, who only know how to gossip from their comfortable sofas, now pointing fingers in the meeting room?"
As the girl finished speaking, the man she had named stood up angrily and slammed the table: "When we were working hard with your grandfather, you didn't even know where to play in the mud. Now you come and boss us around. Not everyone is willing to tolerate your nonsense!"
"Oh, that's truly a righteous statement." Jiang Ran clapped his hands nonchalantly. "If you have anything else to say, don't hold it back. Just say it all at once."
Having said that, the man was not going to swallow his anger.
He pushed his chair aside and walked to Old Yan's side. He looked at everyone in the conference room with a sharp gaze and said loudly: "This zombie wave has caused heavy losses to our base. If it weren't for the help of the Luo family brothers and sisters, the entire base would not have been able to get through this difficult time so easily.
"The reason is simply that our leader, for his own selfish desires, sent available combat forces away from the base, resulting in insufficient combat forces during the zombie siege."
He spoke with great righteousness, and several people in the audience nodded frequently.
Old Yan glanced at the man who was speaking eloquently, raised his glass and drank tea to hide the smile on his face.
Receiving approval, the man looked at Jiang Ran and sneered, "Miss Jiang, with all due respect, our base was able to survive the zombie wave this time thanks to the Luo family. But what did you do? You drove out the Luo family who saved our lives, and used the excuse of a meeting to exclude us, the veterans who made such great contributions to the establishment of the base!"
"Wait." Jiang Ran interrupted him, feeling annoyed.
The man stopped talking and looked at her - what he said was all true. Was this woman interrupting him to refute him?
Haha, he wanted to see how she would refute.
"First, I want to correct your first point."
Jiang Ran raised his chin, stopped turning the pen between his fingertips, and tapped it lightly on the table.
Her voice was neither hurried nor slow, like the gurgling of a stream in summer, instantly washing away the man's depressed mood.
"Chen Yao was captured, and my eldest brother sent Team Z to rescue her. I'd like to ask this veteran hero, Team Z, which faction of the base does it belong to?"
"Huh?" The man was stunned.
"From what I know, Group Z doesn't seem to be a faction of the base, but a special ability team trained by Shen Lang himself, who only obey the orders of the head of the Shen family." Jiang Ran was curious, "How could you elders who have followed my grandfather for so many years not know this?"
Of course they knew - Shen Lang had hidden the power of Group Z at the beginning. After Shen Yang came to power, the ancestors of Group Z began to enter and exit the base normally. Anyone who was not a fool could guess what was going on with Group Z.
The man blurted out, "You mean Group Z shouldn't be working for the base?"
"That's not what I meant. Don't frame me." Jiang Ran smiled. "What I meant was, since they don't belong to the base's special ability team, then it's Shen Yang's freedom to arrange their work..."
Unexpectedly, Jiang Ran would say something like this to shirk responsibility. The man sneered, "Team Z is indeed a special ability team trained by the Shen family, but they are fed and clothed at the base. Why are they separated from the base when they are needed?"
"Hey, now that you mention it, I remember some of the things I found out recently." Ignoring his question, Jiang Ran pulled out a stack of papers from her bag. "The information I have here shows that the Yan family has a 30-member special ability team that has never appeared at the base. The Li family has a 15-member special ability team that has never participated in any missions at the base. And then there's this Cheng family..."
"That's enough!" He hadn't expected her to have such a clear understanding of the forces that each family had secretly cultivated. Elder Yan stopped her from continuing, "Miss Jiang, this information you have is really..."
"But what is it?" Jiang Ran showed an exaggerated expression of surprise. "You're not going to say that my information is fake, are you? Mr. Yan, I have access to this information, so I naturally know where you keep the people. If you say this information is fake, believe me, with just one word of your denial, I can indeed make them fake."
She was threatening him! The old man clenched his fists and gritted his teeth in anger.
How on earth did Jiang Ranran manage to figure out their power without anyone noticing? Could it be that there was a traitor among them?
The old man was cautious and instantly thought of many possibilities.
The other people in the conference room were the same as him, and when they looked at their companions, there was a bit more vigilance in their eyes.
She called the conference assistant over and told her to distribute the information in her hand to everyone in the room: "Come on, everyone, take a look. Is the number of people on my information correct?"
The assistant distributed the materials with shaking hands.
Those people took the thin piece of paper. Some looked at it, while others simply crumpled it up and stuffed it into their bags.
Taking everyone's expressions into consideration, Jiang Ran asked with a smile, "I think you all have no other questions about Group Z, right?"
No one answered, including the man who had been shouting wildly just now, who fell silent.
Jiang Ran, however, had no intention of letting him go - the so-called killing a chicken to scare the monkey, the chicken jumped out on its own, so why shouldn't she use the knife?
"You mentioned the Luo family. I'd like to ask, what is the Luo family's identity? Who here doesn't know? - Nanjun Luo family, where do you get the confidence that the Luo family will be controlled by you and work for you obediently?"
This was a serious statement, and Old Yan naturally wouldn't take the blame for the betrayal on himself: "Miss Jiang, you're joking. We took care of the Luo brothers and sisters purely out of gratitude."
"Grateful? So grateful that you asked the heir of your Yan family to bring people to the Shen family to cause trouble and force my eldest brother to abdicate?" Jiang Ran sneered, "Your gratitude is really worth a lot of money."
Anyway, the Luo brothers and sisters had already been driven out of the base by her. Old Yan replied calmly: "It was just a misunderstanding..."
"I'm not interested in your sophistry. I only believe what I see with my own eyes." Jiang Ran put down his pen with a snap and glared coldly at the old man with graying hair. "Old Yan, don't be too proud. I've only paid him back one tenth of what Yan Jue did to my brother."
