Chapter 11: Meat every three days

It was already noon when we returned to the village.

Hearing the noise outside the door, Mrs. Li and several children in the family all ran out.

Zhang Hulan and Zhang Hujun carried Old Man Zhang into the house. Li was about to take the backpack off the ox cart, but she couldn't lift it with her hands.

Then she looked into the backpack and was stunned to see that there was rice and meat in it.

Wang said hurriedly, "Dahua, come and help me carry the basket into the house."

"Okay grandma!"

Wang, Li and Zhang Dahua carried the basket into the yard. Zhang Xiaojun's eyes lit up and his mouth was already drooling, "Grandma, is this meat from our family?"

Wang smiled and nodded, "Yes, it's from our family. Your aunt bought it, and the rice was also bought by your aunt. Your aunt said that your grandfather and your mother both need to replenish their bodies."

Li was very touched when she heard this. She also felt that her sister-in-law had changed a lot compared to before. If it continued like this, it would be fine even if they lived together for a long time. She was just afraid that she would become like before.

Li asked softly, "Mom, how is Dad's leg?"

"It's okay. The doctor reconnected it and prescribed some medicine. He said that I can walk after lying down for a month, but I can't work yet."

"It's fine as long as you can connect it, otherwise it will be hard for Dad to lie in bed every day."

Zhang Hulan and Zhang Hujun carried Old Man Zhang into the house and put him on the bed. She took the meat to the kitchen and cut off a piece of meat with a knife, weighing about three or four taels.

She handed the meat to Zhang Hujun and said, "Brother, when you go to return the ox cart, take this little bit of meat to the village head. We can't use someone else's ox cart for nothing."

"Oh, OK!"

Zhang Hujun took the meat and drove the ox cart to the village head's house.

Li asked, "Mom, is it better to eat this meat at noon or at night?"

Before Wang said anything, Zhang Hulan said, "Sister-in-law, stew it at noon. It might go bad if you leave it overnight. Stew the meat and bones together, then scoop out the meat and stir-fry. Don't cook wild vegetable porridge for lunch today. Just cook some rice. We'll have a feast today."

Li said, "I have already cooked the meal."

Zhang Hulan said, "Just stew the meat and bones."

Li didn't dare to do that. She looked at Wang. Wang looked at Zhang Hulan, and Zhang Hulan said, "Mother..."

"Okay, stop talking..."

Zhang Hulan was interrupted by Wang just as she called out the word "mother". Then Wang said to Li, "Cook it, so we can move after we finish eating..."

"Come on, sister-in-law, let's go stew the meat."

Zhang Hulan pulled Li to the kitchen, and Zhang Dahahua and Daya, Erya and Sanya all ran into the kitchen.

Zhang Xiaojun shouted, "Grandma, I'll go to the kitchen to see if there's anyone I can help with."

After saying this, Zhang Xiaojun also ran into the kitchen.

Wang shook her head and laughed.

Zhang Hujun came to the village head's house and said, "Uncle village head, I have brought the ox cart back for you."

Zhao Guoliang pointed to a wooden stake in the yard and said, "You can tie the cow there. How's your father's leg?"

"The doctor has connected it and prescribed some medicine. He said he can walk again after a period of rest." Zhang Hujun tied up the cow and handed the meat to Zhao Guoliang. "Uncle head of the village, this meat is for you. My eldest sister bought some meat for my father today to nourish his body. She asked me to bring some to you. Please don't mind."

Zhao Guoliang said unhappily: "What are you doing? Take it back, I don't want it."

"Uncle Lizheng, please accept this little bit of meat. I need to borrow your ox cart to send my father to the city later. If you don't accept it, how can I ask you for it next time?"

"You..." Zhao Guoliang sighed and accepted the meat, then asked, "Dajun, your sister is back. I heard she was injured? Was she beaten by her man? You are the eldest brother, and your sister is being bullied, you should support her."

Zhang Hujun thought about it and decided that since his eldest sister would be living at home in the future, it would be better to tell the village head directly about the matter. So Zhang Hujun told him about the divorce between Zhang Hulan and Chen Dalang.

Zhao Guoliang was very surprised. "According to you, Hu Lan will not return to the Chen family in the future?"

"I'm not going back." Zhang Hujun said, "I was originally planning to go and settle accounts with Chen Dalang, but Hu Lan wouldn't let me go. She said she had severed ties with the Chen family, and even her three children had severed ties with the Chen family. There would be no connection between them in the future, so there was no need to go."

Zhao Guoliang nodded, "Since it's all over, there's no need to go again. You and your family should live a good life from now on."

"Dajun, it's not easy for Hulan to take care of these three children alone. You are the eldest brother, so please help more in the future. If there are any difficulties at home, please come to me. If I can help, I will ask everyone to help together."

"Okay, Uncle Lizheng, I understand."

"By the way, I heard yesterday that Hu Lan and Hei Gou had a conflict? Hu Lan even resorted to surgery?"

Zhang Huhujun told Zhao Guoliang everything that happened at the village entrance yesterday morning.

"That's what Heigou did." Zhao Guoliang then said, "You should also persuade Hu Lan. We are all from the same village. It's okay to have a few arguments if there are any conflicts, but don't use weapons. It's not good to hurt people. If you really hurt someone, you will have to pay compensation, right?"

"Okay Uncle Guoliang, I will advise Hu Lan to control her temper in the future."

"Uncle Lizheng, I'll go back first. We haven't eaten yet."

"Okay, go back quickly. If you need a bullock cart, come and get it."

After Zhang Hujun left, Zhao Guoliang's wife, Zhou, came out yawning, "Who are you talking to in the middle of the day?"

Zhao Guoliang handed the meat to Zhou and said, "The army came to return the ox carts, and here, they also brought a piece of meat."

Zhou woke up after dozing off for a moment, "What is the army doing? Why did you accept it?"

"What else can I do? The army said they need to use the ox carts later. I'm sorry to use them for nothing."
