Chapter 16 Someone Faints from Hunger

When Zhang Hulan met villagers on the road, they all greeted her with a smile.

"Tiger Orchid..."

"Tiger Orchid has woken up..."

Zhang Hulan didn't know why these people were so polite to her. It seemed that she didn't have such a good relationship with these people before.

The village is bustling at this moment. The water from the mountain has been brought to the wells, and the villagers are drawing water.

The water from the mountain was very dirty when it first came down, with leaves, mud and sand all over it. After being washed by the previous stream, the water is now very clear.

As soon as we arrived at the village entrance, Wang and her friends came back.

"Brother, how's the field?"

"With the water, there will definitely be a harvest, but the yield will be much lower."

Wang continued, "It's better than nothing at all. As long as we have some harvest, we can get through it."

When I was walking back, a child in the village suddenly cried out loudly: "Hurry up, someone..."

"My grandma fainted..."

“Wuwu… Wuwu…”

"Please, save my grandma..."

The child shouted and cried loudly.

Some villagers immediately went to check.

"It's Shanzi, is Shanzi's grandmother in trouble?" Wang said hurriedly, "Quick, let's go and take a look."

Shanzi's name is Zhou Shan, and he is only eleven years old this year. His parents died two years ago, and only his grandmother He is left to take care of him.

There is an old man and a child in the family. They don’t have enough to eat on weekdays, let alone the current situation.

He gave all the food to her grandson. She herself hadn't eaten for two days and just now fainted from hunger.

The original body has memories of He. He was a very nice person, always polite to others, and never had any quarrels with the villagers.

The villagers carried He to the bed, and someone went to call Zhao Guoliang.

A villager suggested pinching He's philtrum, but Zhang Hulan stopped him and said, "Aunt He fainted from hunger. Pinching her philtrum won't work."

Zhang Hulan squeezed in to take a look, touched He's nose, and found that she was still breathing.

Zhang Hulan asked loudly: "Does anyone have sugar? Let's make some sugar water and feed it to him. It should be able to save him."

At this time, there is no food, so who would have sugar?

Seeing no one answered, Zhang Hulan shouted to Zhang Hujun: "Brother, there is rice soup at home, go back and bring a bowl."

"Oh, okay."

Zhang Hujun hurried back to bring the rice soup.

Zhao Guoliang also rushed over quickly, and after finding out the situation, he could only sigh.

Zhang Hujun brought the rice soup, and Zhang Hulan asked Wang to lift up He's upper body and then pour the rice soup into her mouth.

He hadn't completely fainted yet, and he knew how to swallow the rice soup he was fed. But he swallowed less and more fluid flowed out.

After feeding her half a bowl of rice soup, He's eyes slightly opened and her lips moved, "Thank you..."

When Shanzi saw grandma open her eyes, he was so happy that he started crying again.

Zhang Hulan said, "Shanzi, don't cry. Don't let your grandma worry about you."

Shanzi stopped crying immediately, but his tears were still falling.

Zhang Hulan could tell that He was saying thank you, so she said softly, "Aunt He, don't talk. Drink more rice soup. Don't worry, it's okay."

After drinking the whole bowl of rice soup, He's condition improved a little, but she felt weak all over and had no strength to speak.

Zhang Hulan handed the bowl to Zhang Hujun, "Brother, scoop some more, a little drier this time."

After a pause, Zhang Hulan said, "Bring some more. Shanzi probably hasn't eaten anything either."

Zhang Hujun did not hesitate and ran back immediately.

This time, Zhang Hujun brought two bowls of wild vegetable and brown rice porridge.

Handing a bowl to Shanzi, Shanzi looked at Zhang Hujun, then at Zhang Hulan, wiped his tears with his sleeve and said, "I'm not hungry, give it to grandma."

Zhang Hulan said, "Eat quickly, or your grandma won't worry. This bowl is enough for your grandma, she can't eat too much now."

Shanzi hesitated for a moment, then finally took the bowl and started drinking from it in big gulps.

Zhang Hulan continued to feed He, but He refused to eat and stared at Zhou Shan.

"Aunt He, eat quickly. You don't have to worry about Shanzi. We still have food at home. Shanzi hasn't eaten enough, so come to our house to eat later."

Wang also said, "Old sister, take care of yourself first. If you save this, how long can Shanzi last? If you die like this, can you bear to leave Shanzi alone in this world?"

He's tears flowed down her cheeks. "Sister, I am unlucky for my husband and my son. I have killed my whole family. A few years ago, Shanzi was still too young, and I was really worried about him. Now he can find food for himself. If I were still alive, I'm afraid I would have killed him too..."

This was not just what He said, there was also a lot of gossip in the village.

He's husband died early in life, leaving behind two sons. Later, her eldest son died, leaving no offspring. A few years ago, her youngest son and daughter-in-law also died, which made He feel very guilty. She also felt that her family had brought bad luck to her husband, son and daughter-in-law.

"Aunt He, since you think you are the one who brought Uncle Zhou and the others to their deaths, that means you believe in fate. Since you believe in fate, you should believe that everyone has his or her own destiny. It's okay to believe in fate, but we can't just accept it; you should live well and raise Shanzi to adulthood, watch him get married and have children, and then have great-grandchildren."

Zhang Hulan looked at Shanzi and asked, "Shanzi, are you afraid that your grandma will defeat you?"

Shanzi immediately replied: "I'm not afraid, I'm strong. I want to be with grandma forever."

"Aunt He, you heard it. Shanzi is not afraid of you. Have you ever thought that you are Shanzi's only relative now. If you leave, how sad he will be? Do you have the heart to let him live alone in this world without anyone to rely on?"
