Chapter 35 Pottery Fragments

Zhang Keke dug out a fragment of pottery from where she had just been sitting.

"This fragment looks so much like a rabbit's ear!" Zhang Keke looked at the fragment in her hand, somewhat puzzled.

"What's wrong?" Wang Lin asked, coming over at this moment.

“Look, doesn’t this fragment of pottery look like a rabbit’s ear?” Zhang Keke held up the fragment and brought it close to Wang Lin’s eyes.

“It does seem like it, but…” Wang Lin glanced at Zhang Keke, “Does this have anything to do with the clues we’re looking for right now?”

“I don’t know either.” Zhang Keke squeezed the fragment. “However, I have a feeling that this fragment is anything but simple.”

At this moment, Qin An walked over and saw Zhang Keke and Wang Lin huddled together, so he went up to them and asked, "What are you two doing here?"

"Ah! It's my martial uncle!"

"Greetings, Uncle-Master."

Zhang Keke and Wang Lin quickly bowed to Qin An, "Uncle-Master, we found this here." Zhang Keke handed the pottery shards in her hand to Qin An.

"I just don't know if he'll be of any use to our leads?"

"I'll go find Master first. You two continue searching for clues." Qin An squeezed the fragment in his hand and gave instructions to Zhang Keke and Wang Lin.

"yes!"

"Master brother." Qin An found Shu Lan, who was standing on a small hill.

"What's up, Xiao An?" Shu Lan was curious about why Qin An had come to see her at this hour. If nothing unexpected happened, Qin An should still be searching for clues.

“Zhang Keke and the others found this.” Qin An handed the pottery shard in his hand to Shu Lan. “This shard might be a clue.”

Shu Lan took the pottery shard and examined it for a while. The more he looked at it, the more familiar the shard seemed, as if it had fallen from something.

Shu Lan flipped through one image after another in her mind, finally settling on the village chief's waist.

"Oh, I see!" Shu Lan suddenly clapped her hands, as if she had figured something out.

"Brother Master, what do you know?" Qin An asked curiously.

"Let's leave that aside for now. I already have a clear suspect."

Who is it?

"Village Chief," Shu Lan said casually, revealing the most unexpected choice.

"The village chief?!" Qin An was somewhat surprised. "Could this fragment of pottery have some connection with the village chief?"

"This is the time to hone your observation skills." Shu Lan patted Qin An on the shoulder. "You'll understand once you observe the village chief more carefully."

Qin An nodded thoughtfully, truly unable to understand what a small pottery shard could have to do with the village chief? And how did his master figure it out?

"The village chief was one of my initial suspects, but now I'm even more certain." Shu Lan narrowed her eyes. "The most important thing now is to find evidence that the village chief committed the crime."

"Master, why did you suspect the village chief from the beginning?" Qin An was puzzled.

"Xiao An, have you observed the village chief?" Shu Lan rubbed Qin An's head.

"have."

"Have you noticed anything different about the village chief compared to the other elderly people?"

"Hmm..." Upon hearing Shu Lan's words, Qin An began to ponder deeply.

“He is more energetic and healthy than the other elderly people. He walks very fast and doesn’t look old at all.” Qin An recalled a series of unreasonable things about the village chief.

"Then how come the village chief, an ordinary person, is healthier than the other elderly people?" Shu Lan then began to patiently guide Qin An.

"Something's fishy!" Qin An blurted out.

Shu Lan nodded with satisfaction. "That's right, something's strange. The village chief isn't a cultivator, so how does he maintain this state?"

"The village chief must be involved in the strange events in the new fishing village!" Qin An said with certainty, emphasizing each word.

"So now we need to wait for the right opportunity to find evidence that the village chief committed the crime."

"So what do we do now? Should we investigate the village chief?" Qin An asked, somewhat eager to try.

"No." Shu Lan waved her hand. "We shouldn't alert them now. All we can do is wait until the village chief reveals his true colors."

"But before that, we can first learn about the village chief from the perspective of the villagers."

Shu Lan and Qin An were walking along a village path when they saw a little girl squatting under a tree, lost in thought.

Shu Lan stepped forward and squatted down to be at eye level with the little girl.

"What are you doing here?" Shu Lan asked the little girl gently.

The little girl turned her eyes after hearing Shu Lan's words, "I miss my mother here."

Where is your mother?

"Mother, Mother, she...she's gone." The little girl's eyes began to redden. "Everyone says, everyone says that Mother must have been captured by a monster and will never come back." Tears streamed down the little girl's face.

Shu Lan took out a handkerchief and wiped away the little girl's tears. "Where is your father?"

“My father passed away when I was young, and I have always lived with my mother.”

"So who are you living with now?"

"Auntie. I only have Auntie now." The little girl sobbed.

"Immortal, can you help me find my mother?" The little girl looked at Shu Lan with hopeful eyes.

"I will do my best. I will help you find your mother." Shu Lan gently rubbed the little girl's head to soothe her emotions.

"Mmm." The little girl nodded, her voice choked with emotion.
