Chapter 5 An Encounter with the Protagonist

"Xiao An, what's wrong?"

Qin An didn't say anything, but tears streamed down his face.

Shu Lan was at a loss and gently tried to comfort Qin An. But Qin An continued to shed tears. Shu Lan had no choice but to gently pat Qin An's back to offer him some comfort.

After a long while, Qin An choked up and said, "Brother, you're lying."

"How did I lie?"

“You said you were fine, that you were safe. But…” Qin An sniffed, “But you’re bleeding all over.”

"It's my fault for making Xiao An worry. I won't do it again next time, Xiao An, please don't be angry, okay?"

"I'm not angry."

"Xiao An isn't angry. So please don't cry, okay?" Shu Lan gently patted Qin An's head and coaxed him softly. "Brother won't make Xiao An worry anymore."

"Mmm." Qin An rubbed his eyes with his two little hands and stopped crying.

"Let's go out now!" Shu Lan cast a cleansing spell on herself, and her blood-stained white clothes immediately looked brand new.

Shu Lan led Qin An along a mountain path, the surrounding scenery was beautiful, and the air was filled with the melodious chirping of birds. A gentle breeze blew by, and a few fallen leaves scattered onto the hems of Shu Lan and Qin An's clothes, gently drifting down as they walked.

Shu Lan held Qin An's hand tightly, worried that he was too frightened by what had just happened, and tried to comfort him.

Qin An let Shu Lan's hand envelop his small hand. Shu Lan's hand was very warm, and the warmth traveled from Qin An's small hand all the way to his heart.

"Help! Help!" Suddenly, a cry for help interrupted this beautiful scene.

The cries for help grew closer, accompanied by bursts of animal roars.

Finally, a young boy appeared in front of Shu Lan and Qin An.

The young man, dressed in a yellow robe, was in a sorry state, covered in scrapes and bruises. A tiger-like demon beast was chasing after him. Upon seeing Shu Lan and Qin An, the young man's eyes lit up. "Brother, brother, help me!"

"It's a Crimson Flame Tiger." Shu Lan immediately shielded Qin An behind her. "Little An, be careful!"

Qin An nodded and obediently hid behind Shu Lan, placing his hands on her waist.

The boy and the Crimson Tiger were getting closer and closer to Shu Lan and Qin An.

Shu Lan took out her spirit sword from her storage ring, and just as the Crimson Flame Tiger was about to arrive, she casually swung it, sending out a huge sword aura.

The Crimson Tiger, which was running at full speed, suddenly stopped. A line of blood appeared on the top of the Crimson Tiger's head, and then, the entire Crimson Tiger was splattered with blood and split in two.

The boy who was running looked back and was astonished. "Wow, buddy, that's awesome!"

Qin An's eyes widened in astonishment. He murmured, "Brother is amazing!"

After killing the Crimson Flame Tiger, Shu Lan didn't even glance at it, turning directly to Qin An and asking, "Xiao An, how was it? Were you scared?"

"No." Qin An shook his head. "Brother, you're so amazing!" Qin An looked at Shu Lan with admiration.

"Of course my brother is amazing." Shu Lan squinted and gently ruffled Qin An's hair.

"Brother, my name is Ye Feiyu. Thank you for saving my life." Ye Feiyu clasped his hands in thanks to Shu Lan.

Huh? Ye Feiyu? That main character?

Shu Lan immediately perked up and subtly sized up Ye Feiyu.

Hmm, shorter than me. Looks like I'm not so bad after all.

Although Shu Lan is now twelve years old, he has grown to his previous height. He is already 1.6 meters tall. In this place where children generally experience developmental delays, Shu Lan's height is about the same as that of a fourteen or fifteen-year-old boy.

Shu Lan's mood instantly brightened, and she found the protagonist much more pleasing to the eye.

Ye Feiyu felt a chill run down his spine as he endured Shu Lan's scrutiny. "Brother, is there something wrong with me?"

"No." Shu Lan withdrew her gaze from Ye Feiyu. "My name is Shu Lan." He returned the greeting gently. "This is Qin An, my younger brother." Shu Lan brought Qin An to her side and introduced him to Ye Feiyu.

"Oh, so it's Brother Shulan and young brother Qin An. It's fate that we meet. Why don't you come with me? It would be a good opportunity for me to repay Brother Shulan for saving my life." Ye Feiyu extended an invitation to Shulan.

"No, thank you." Shu Lan waved his hand. "I'm taking my brother home. We'll meet again someday." Having met the protagonist, Shu Lan's curiosity was satisfied. Traveling with the protagonist? No way, he wasn't that bored. Besides, the protagonist was often surrounded by danger, and he had Qin An to take care of. For Qin An's safety, he couldn't go with him.

Shu Lan picked up Qin An, summoned her spirit sword, stepped onto it, and flew away on the sword.

"Brother Shulan, then we'll meet again someday!" Ye Feiyu shouted loudly at their retreating figures.

"See you again someday." Shu Lan's voice carried on the wind and then dissipated.

"Brother Shulan is truly amazing. To be able to fly on a sword, you must be at least at the Foundation Establishment stage," Ye Feiyu couldn't help but exclaim. "It seems I also need to work harder."

Ye Feiyu tidied himself up and continued his training deep into the mountains.

"Xiao An, your brother is going to take you home now." On the way, Shu Lan hugged Qin An and said to him with a smile.

"Is this your home, brother?" Qin An was overjoyed to see Shu Lan nod. "That's wonderful! Little An will have a home too!"

“Xiao An, remember this now. You were raised by your mother. Not long ago, your mother was killed by bandits, and you escaped from their stronghold during the chaos. Your brother rescued you. Do you understand? Don’t say anything wrong later.”
