As for Lu Zifeng, apart from the fact that he disregards human ethics and loves his own sister, he is still a talented person.
From childhood, he was always the "other people's child" in the eyes of his parents, winning numerous awards and speaking on behalf of the entire grade more than once. After graduating from university and joining his own company, he was praised by many elders as having a "promising future."
He is considered a leader among his peers.
However, compared to Luo Jingxuan's openness and Shen Zhou's good fortune and opportunities, Lu Zifeng's desire for rapid growth inevitably led him to act somewhat ruthlessly. While he wouldn't commit any crimes, he did resort to borderline tactics to secure projects. He also employed coercion and inducement to perfection.
To sum up, this was Li Xi's first impression of him: he was a pervert.
Logically speaking, Lu Zifeng had no direct conflicts with Li Xi or Su Yu. However, because of Lu Wantang, they were forced to be on two different sides. He liked Lu Wantang and stood by her unconditionally.
Su Yu and Lu Wantang, one a real daughter and the other a fake, were naturally at odds with each other. Lu Wantang, driven by her desire to possess her, naturally targeted her in every way. As a result, Lu Zifeng and Su Yu, despite being siblings, acted like enemies.
Under Li Xi's influence, Su Yu is no longer as desperate to fit in as she did when she first returned to the Lu family, fawning over everyone in the family. After seeing through the Lu family's masked indifference, Su Yu's attitude towards them gradually became indifferent, and she has been watching the family's acting out with a cold eye.
Su Yu would avoid Lu Wantang, who always used to put on an act in front of her family and make her angry, if she could. If she couldn't avoid him, she would just watch him acting calmly, and then watch the Lu family members who were attracted by Lu Wantang's actions or who were plotting against her become furious.
After watching such farces coldly for a few times, Su Yu did not make a fuss, but instead found fun in it.
Lu Wantang's gossips and hesitations always have different focuses. Sometimes he highlights his family's weakness, sometimes he hints at Su Yu's greed, and sometimes he wants to express his magnanimity.
Su Yu observed carefully. Depending on the direction she directed her energy, different people would jump out to lecture her. For example, as soon as she started to complain about her shortcomings, Lu's mother would jump out before she finished. She would first hug Lu Wantang and offer comfort, then point at Su Yu and scold her for being an older sister who didn't understand or give in to her younger sister, and who always caused trouble for her. And so on and so forth.
For example, when the two of them were facing each other, Lu Wantang would start to show weakness, saying, "I shouldn't have taken my sister's things, but I didn't want to do this. I'm also a victim." Then Lu Zifeng would run over, hug the shaky Lu Wantang, and start accusing Su Yu of greed, saying, "You are the real daughter of the Lu family. Grandpa is on your side, your parents are on your side, and your brother is on your side. What else do you have to complain about? Tangtang has lived in the Lu family for so many years, what's wrong with taking such a small thing?" blah blah.
To be honest, if Su Yu hadn't been in the middle of this situation and was the target of Lu Wantang's attack, she would have applauded them. Lu Wantang's adaptability and the Lu family's understanding were all given full marks by Su Yu.
Fortunately, Su Yu doesn't care much about their opinions now, otherwise he would be mad at them one day, or he would be turned evil by them like in the original book.
It's precisely because of Su Yu's avoidance that Lu Wantang's actions against her are repeatedly thwarted. While the Lu family's current attitude toward Su Yu isn't quite as warm, they're not as utterly disappointed in her as in the original novel. Perhaps they're more like familiar strangers.
Because Su Yu avoids him, Lu Zifeng's attitude towards her is less confrontational than in the original novel. He has some hostility towards her, but not much. At least he won't slap her without a word the moment Lu Wantang cries.
For now, as long as Su Yu doesn't take the initiative to provoke Lu Wantang, Lu Zifeng is unlikely to deliberately embarrass Su Yu.
As for the other members of the Lu family, there is even less to worry about.
Mr. and Mrs. Lu are very concerned about their reputation. As long as we put on a good show in public and maintain their face, everything will be fine.
Su Yu's younger brother Lu Xiaoran has never liked Lu Wantang's affectation, but instead likes Su Yu's frankness and straightforwardness. It can be said that the only kindness Su Yu feels in the Lu family comes from Lu Xiaoran.
Li Xi had occasionally heard Su Yu mention Lu Xiaoran, and her impression of him was that he was a very caring younger brother. He should be easy to get along with.
Time flies, and soon it is the day before Su Yu and Lu Wantang’s 20th birthday party.
Just like in the original novel, at Grandpa Lu's request, their birthday party also served as Su Yu's family recognition party. The party was held at the Lu residence.
Although he no longer cared much about the attitude of the Lu family, Su Yu was still a little nervous because it was his first time to attend such a banquet as a member of the Lu family. So the better he got along with Li Xi, the more likely Li Xi would move into the Lu family's house a day in advance so that they could talk in private.
Su Yu had mentioned this matter to the Lu family long ago, but she hadn't mentioned that Li Xi's husband was Luo Jingxuan. At Li Xi's suggestion, her marriage to Luo Jingxuan was kept secret for the time being only from the two families and a few close friends.
The Lu family only knew that Li Xi was a member of the Li family and didn't take it seriously. They agreed as soon as Su Yu mentioned it. Lu Zifeng and Lu Wantang recalled the confrontation they had last met, but they didn't want to offend their elders, so they just kept a silent watchful eye.
Lu Xiaoran was very interested in Li Xi. He had heard Su Yu mention this person many times, but had never met her.
The birthday party happened to be on Saturday, so after classes on Friday, Li Xi took Su Yu back to the Imperial Garden. After putting away her class supplies and packing her own toiletries and clothes, she set off for Lu's residence.
The driver was Li Xi's personal driver, Yu Sui. Yu was already familiar with both Li Xi and Su Yu, and the three of them chatted and laughed all the way to the Lu family's house. After instructing Yu to be careful on the way back, the two of them got out of the car at the door.
