Chapter 124 Going Out

Chapter 124 Going Out

It took a lot of effort to get dressed and leave the house.

It was too late to style the hair at this point, so Hu Xin'er asked the maid to do the simplest style.

As she walked out the door, she was still complaining to Mu Qing: "You're leaving at this late hour. What do you think of your mother?"

"She'll be very happy." Mu Qing smiled, "Mother wants to hold her grandson the most."

Hu Xin'er was stunned.

As soon as he opened the door, he found a servant sweeping the floor outside. Seeing the two people coming out, he greeted them warmly: "Master, Madam, good morning!"

"Good morning!" Hu Xiner answered casually.

This man had pockmarks all over his face and looked rather ugly, but judging from his eyes, he was a very kind-hearted person.

Hu Xiner took a look and suddenly felt her stomach churning. She ran under a tree and started retching, tears streaming down her face.

Mu Qing hurried forward and asked, "Is your stomach trouble coming back again?"

The servant clenched the broom in his hand and left in a daze.

After leaving the inner courtyard, I happened to meet another servant.

"Zhang Mazi, what's wrong? Why do you look so unhappy?" the servant asked in surprise.

The pockmarked servant said sadly, "I just made the young lady cry..."

Hu Xin'er had no idea about this little episode.

She thought she might have eaten too much yesterday, so she didn't take it seriously: "Next time if I have time, I'll ask the imperial physician to help take a look."

Seeing her complexion improve, Mu Qing finally felt relieved: "After serving tea, I will go find the princess to ask for the imperial physician."

The two of them went to have morning tea together.

When I entered the room, Mother Lu was leaning on the table in a daze.

Hu Xin'er called out "Mom" twice before she finally realized what was happening, as if waking from a dream: "Oh, you're here?"

"Mom, did you not sleep well last night?" Hu Xiner asked worriedly.

Although Mother Lu had covered it up with makeup, there was still a hint of dark blue under her eyes.

Mother Lu did not go to bed until three o'clock in the morning. If she hadn't thought about having to face Hu Xiner and Mu Qing tomorrow, she would probably have stayed awake all night.

Facing Hu Xin'er's concern, she smiled and said, "I was a little too excited, so I slept late."

Hu Xin'er said a little embarrassedly, "We are late for the tea today. Please forgive us for keeping you waiting."

The maidservant beside Lu's mother happened to bring over new tea and replaced the cold tea on the table.

It was obvious that Mother Lu had been waiting for a long time.

Mother Lu took the tea steadily and said, "Get up quickly, good boy."

She took off the mutton-fat jade bracelet on her wrist and said, "This bracelet was given to me by my master. It's been more than 10 years now. It suits your skin tone perfectly. I'll consider it as your compensation for changing your name."

Hu Xiner was not shy with Lu's mother and accepted it after a brief hesitation.

Mother Lu smiled with relief, then looked as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.

Hu Xin'er noticed her strangeness: "Mom, has something happened? Do you have anything to say to us?"

Mother Lu opened her mouth but only sighed with a smile: "Nothing, I just thought that my son has grown up so much and is old enough to get married."

When she said this, she didn't even look at Mu Qing, leaving Mu Qing no chance to get a word in.

Instead, he stared at Hu Xiner closely.

Hu Xin'er felt something strange for some reason, but she quickly dismissed the idea, thinking that she was probably just overthinking it.

She smiled and comforted Lu's mother.

Mother Lu looked a little tired, perhaps because she didn't sleep well last night.

Seeing that she was listless but still forcing herself to talk to her, Hu Xiner didn't dare to disturb Lu's mother anymore.

Then he said considerately: "Then we won't disturb mother's sleep."

"Wait a minute." Mother Lu suddenly said, "Xin'er, I have to go out for a while recently. I have already told the housekeeper that I need you to help take care of the household."

Hu Xin'er was a little surprised: "Mom, where are you going?"

Mother Lu frowned slightly. "Yes... My former best friend has married and moved far away. Now she has an emergency, and I have to go see her one last time."

Hu Xiner and Mu Qing looked at each other, feeling that it was not right to persuade him, nor was it right not to persuade him.

Mother Lu said apologetically, "We agreed to come and teach you how to manage the household and accounts in the next few days, but now I've broken my promise. You won't blame me, will you?"

"How could that be?" Hu Xin'er waved her hands repeatedly. "Mother is so kind to me, how could I blame you? But how far is your close friend from the capital? Will there be any danger along the way?"

Mother Lu smiled but said nothing: "Don't worry, I will be careful. You should learn from the housekeeper. I will leave the Lu Mansion inside and outside to you for the time being."

Hu Xiner was a little hesitant.

But before she could offer any opinion, Mother Lu waved her hand and said, "I'm tired. Let's just leave it at that."

In fact, no matter how urgent Lu's mother passed away, she should have given priority to her biological son rather than the new daughter-in-law.

After all, Lu Yunjue has prestige in the mansion, so it is easier to manage him and less likely to cause trouble.

But from what she said, it seemed that she had handed over all the power to Hu Xiner, and Lu Yunjue didn't even mention it.

Hu Xiner felt a little strange, but then she thought that maybe Lu's mother really liked her, and knowing that she owned two shops, she wanted to train her and test her abilities at the same time.

It is well known that Lu Yunjue does not like to deal with these troublesome things.

Besides, she and Mu Qing are now one, so it doesn't matter who is in charge.

In this conversation, Mu Qing didn't say a word from beginning to end.

"It seems that mother really likes you." Mu Qing was so happy that she didn't say anything.

Although he changed his words, the loss of memory made him not have any deep feelings for Lu's mother.

Talking too much will only make people embarrassed.

The two walked out hand in hand sweetly, and happened to meet the eldest princess who came to visit them.

"Why are you here?" Hu Xin'er was very surprised and let go of Mu Qing, and took the eldest princess's arm. "I was just about to look for you!"

She briefly explained that she was feeling unwell and asked if the princess could invite a suitable imperial physician or a famous doctor with superb medical skills.

"No problem." When the eldest princess answered, she noticed that Mu Qing's eyes were fixed on Hu Xiner's hand, and she couldn't help shaking her arms to show off her presence.

Hu Xiner smiled and patted her hand: "You're so grown up! And still so childish."

"Hmph, woman, I advise you not to speak so arrogantly." The eldest princess raised her head proudly. "I'll give you half an incense stick of time to take back what you just said."

Hu Xin'er burst out laughing: "You must have been reading a lot of picture books recently!"

The princess then remembered the important matter: "Don't mention it. I came here this time because my father is bored to death in the palace. I want to see you compete with the palace painters, and I want Lu Yunjue to accompany you!"

Hu Xin'er's face showed a hint of embarrassment when she said this: "You won't show His Majesty my picture books, will you?"

"How could that be?" The eldest princess shook her head.

Hu Xin'er's face was full of confusion: "Then... Your Majesty, do you know that the comics I draw are like that - like that?"
