Chapter Forty-Nine: Hua Ruyu angrily rebukes Li Youran

Li Youran held a very strange and unique ring in her hand and examined it curiously.

"Little sister, quickly take a look at this letter."

Li Youran opened the letter, and the doubts in her heart were resolved.

This was the first time Li Youran had seen Tang Lei's handwriting; it was vigorous and powerful, with a sharp edge in the strokes.

This ring was handcrafted by Tang Lei; it's no ordinary ring, as it contains a hidden mechanism. A gentle touch to the switch concealed at the bottom of the ring will launch three poison needles.

"The gift was from Tang Lei. He said he wished our bookstore a prosperous business."

As Li Youran spoke, she folded the letter and placed it in her bosom.

"As the saying goes, you don't know someone until you fight them. Tang Lei is actually a pretty good person."

Li Haoran felt uneasy after his steamed bun shop was framed, fearing the thief would cause trouble at the bookstore again. Seeing that the gifts were from Tang Lei, he felt relieved and turned to write a notice about his work-study program.

After Li Haoran left, Li Youran breathed a sigh of relief, because that wasn't actually what the letter said.

In the letter, Tang Lei explained that he had to go out for a while and repeatedly reminded her to be careful as a girl, and also explained how to use the ring.

Li Youran read the letter repeatedly. Although her words were hesitant, they revealed concern, worry, and a hint of resentment...

She put the ring on the middle finger of her left hand, and the gloom in her heart dissipated. She thought to herself that this gift was really thoughtful.

The incident at the steamed bun shop didn't affect Li Youran's mood. She hummed a little tune as she looked at the resume written by the student applying for a part-time job.

Writing a resume is not just about knowing someone's personal information, but also about seeing what their handwriting looks like.

"Brother, these students come from very poor families. Please give them the hourly cleaning jobs first."

"OK."

Li Haoran also felt that this arrangement was very reasonable, so he took advantage of the lull in the shop to go find those students.

Liu Zhiyuan hurried to the yamen, where the county magistrate quickly came out to greet him. After all, Liu Zhiyuan's father worked for the prefect, and a few words from him could determine his performance, so he couldn't afford to offend him.

Upon learning that Li Youran's matter had been resolved smoothly, Liu Zhiyuan hurriedly left. The county magistrate wiped away an imaginary cold sweat from his brow, thinking to himself that he was fortunate not to have made things difficult for Li Youran.

Nevertheless, Liu Zhiyuan's tense heart remained uneasy until he saw Li Youran wielding a feather duster to organize the bookshelves.

"Young Master Liu." Li Youran turned around and saw that the person who came was Liu Zhiyuan, so he showed a big smile.

The reason so many students registered as members and pre-deposited money on the day the bookstore opened was mostly because Liu Zhiyuan was also in the bookstore, and out of respect for Liu Zhiyuan.

Liu Zhiyuan was unaware of Li Youran's thoughts, only knowing that her eyes shone brightly when she looked at him. When his eyes met her intense gaze, his heart pounded like a deer's.

“I am aware of what happened today, Miss Li. Please rest assured, I will definitely find out who is behind this.”

As long as he's around, no one can harm Li Youran in the slightest.

"It's just a small matter, Young Master Liu, you don't need to take it to heart." Li Youran knew that Liu Zhiyuan was a warm-hearted person who would go to great lengths for his friends, so he politely declined.

Just as the two of them were chatting and laughing, Hua Ruyu arrived and angrily placed the food box on the table as soon as she entered.

"Ruyu, what brings you here?"

Seeing that Hua Ruyu looked like she didn't want to be disturbed, Li Youran asked with concern.

"But what happened?"

Hua Ruyu is straightforward and wears her heart on her sleeve. She looked at Li Youran with an expression that said, "You're not a good person."

"What exactly did you do to Tang Lei? Why has he been so preoccupied these past few days, and why did he suddenly leave?"

Hua Ruyu questioned him.

Hua Ruyi had no idea what had happened. After Tang Lei went to the bookstore and came back, he seemed like a different person, looking preoccupied.

Not only that, but they also suddenly changed their plans and went to the Second Prince's military camp ahead of schedule.

It should be noted that the two had originally planned to capture Liu Wei so that General Wei Hua could take revenge. However, Tang Lei suddenly changed his mind, saying that Liu Wei was merely the one who raised the knife, while the real murderer was the one who was controlling Liu Wei.

To truly avenge General Hua, killing Liu Wei alone is not enough; the mastermind behind it all must be completely defeated for the ultimate reward.

Hua Ruyu felt that Li Youran was definitely involved in Tang Lei's sudden and drastic change. She believed that Li Youran must have done or said something to Tang Lei.

Some are dying of thirst while others are drowning in floods. She has Tang Lei in her heart, but Tang Lei's heart is set on Li Youran. Li Youran, on the other hand, doesn't have Tang Lei in her heart; instead, she's chatting and laughing with other men. How unfair is fate?

"Ruyu, I think you've misunderstood."

Li Youran felt ashamed. She thought that Hua Ruyu, that silly girl, must like Tang Lei, otherwise why would she care about Tang Lei so much?

"Don't move, where did you get this ring from?" Hua Ruyu grabbed Li Youran's right hand and looked at the ring on her hand.

Hua Ruyu had seen this ring before; it was personally crafted by Tang Lei. Even when his leg was injured, he did not stop forging this ring.

If this ring is on Li Youran's hand, then...

Hua Ruyu felt as if her heart was blocked. At this moment, she wished she could cry like other women.

"You don't need to say anything, I understand."

Hua Ruyu came and went in a hurry, leaving only the food box on the table.

"Please excuse me, Young Master Liu. She is my good friend, Hua Ruyu. She is straightforward and a true heroine."

Liu Zhiyuan's mind wasn't on Hua Ruyu, but on Tang Lei, whom Hua Ruyu had mentioned. This man made him feel threatened.

He unconsciously glanced at Li Youran's right hand, at a plain-looking ring with an unusual design, clearly made of scrap metal, yet Li Youran was wearing it.

"Young Master Liu, have you had lunch yet? Would you like to join us?"

Seeing that the food box contained steaming hot buns, Li Youran turned to Liu Zhiyuan and asked him about it.

Liu Zhiyuan had been busy looking for Li Youran and hadn't had a drop of water, so he didn't refuse.

The vegetarian steamed buns have a light and fragrant flavor and taste very delicious.

The diced meat inside the meat buns is stir-fried, making them flavorful but not greasy, with a savory and delicious taste.

Liu Zhiyuan ate his steamed bun with a heavy heart, his gaze unconsciously falling on Li Youran.

Li Youran ate the steamed buns with gusto, completely unpretentious. Watching her eat made one feel very hungry.

Liu Zhiyuan unconsciously ate two more steamed buns, and by the time he realized it, he was already stuffed.

"Boys and girls should eat separately from the age of seven. How can you two eat together?"
