Chapter 108 The Rise of New Power, and the Spread of Jealousy

On the third day after Ning Yu awoke, sunlight pierced through the clouds, illuminating the ravaged land. New buildings rose from the ruins, and people's faces shone with hope. All of this was thanks to Ning Yu's leadership.

News of the victory spread like wildfire across the desolate land, attracting more and more survivors to seek refuge there. They yearned for a safe haven, and even more so for a strong leader to guide them through this apocalypse. Ning Yu welcomed all who came, establishing a comprehensive system where everyone, whether a powerful superhuman or an ordinary survivor, could find their place in the base and contribute to rebuilding their homes.

In just a few weeks, Ning Yu's sphere of influence expanded rapidly, with resource points scattered throughout the area. His well-trained team became the guardian of the region. They repelled attacks by mutated creatures, prevented other forces from plundering, and provided a safe living space for ordinary survivors.

"Report! Boss, we've discovered a new water source to the south!" A team member, covered in sweat, rushed into the command room, his face beaming with excitement.

"Great!" Ning Yu's eyes lit up. He took the map and examined it carefully, a smile appearing on his lips. "Looks like we'll be expanding our base again."

However, not everyone was happy about Ning Yu's rise. In a secluded valley not far from Ning Yu's base, the leaders of several factions were gathered together, their faces grim.

"This Ning Yu is developing too fast!" A burly man slammed his fist on the table, his tone filled with jealousy and apprehension. "If this continues, will we still have any say in this area?"

“We can’t let them continue like this,” a thin man said sinisterly. “I’ve heard their internal management is lax, and the new recruits aren’t loyal. We can take advantage of that…”

A few days later, rumors began to circulate among the survivors about Ning Yu's base. Some said Ning Yu was dictatorial and autocratic, controlling all resources; others said Ning Yu's forces were brutal and ruthless, killing survivors from other factions... These rumors spread like a plague among the people, and gradually, some newcomers to Ning Yu's forces began to waver. They looked at the well-trained teams in the base with suspicion and unease in their eyes...

“Have you heard? I heard…” A newly joined survivor grabbed his companion and whispered, looking flustered.

"Shh! Don't talk nonsense!" His companion quickly stopped him, but a hint of panic flashed in his eyes, because he too was beginning to waver. "Let's see how things go first..."

An uneasy mood hung over the base like a dark cloud. Some of the newly arrived survivors huddled together, whispering amongst themselves, glancing around warily from time to time, as if afraid of being watched. Their once resolute gazes were now clouded with confusion.

"Do you think those rumors are true?" a young survivor asked his companion, rubbing his hands nervously.

“Who knows,” another survivor said in a low voice, “I heard that several smaller factions were swallowed up by them yesterday…”

"But didn't they say they wanted to build a safe home?" The young survivor was even more confused.

Similar conversations continued to unfold in various corners of the base, and the seeds of suspicion had been quietly sown and were gradually taking root and sprouting.

Just then, a message shattered the base's facade of calm like a hammer blow. A supply transport team had been ambushed and suffered heavy losses!

"What?! How is this possible!" Ning Yu suddenly stood up, the map in his hand slipped to the ground, his lips were tightly pursed, and his eyes were sharp as knives.

“The other side had planned this all along, and our people didn’t have time to react at all…” The team member who came to report had his head down, his tone filled with guilt and anger.

"Who did this?" Ning Yu's voice was low, yet it seemed to contain a storm of rage.

"It's...it's a coalition of several small factions in the vicinity, they..."

Before the team members could finish speaking, Ning Yu suddenly turned around, strode out of the command room, and headed straight for the medical room where the wounded were.

The empty corridor echoed with Ning Yu's heavy footsteps, each step fueling his growing rage. Those clowns he had once considered insignificant had dared to challenge his authority and harm his people!

The medical room reeked of blood and disinfectant. Wounded team members lay on beds, groaning in pain. Looking at their wounds, Ning Yu felt a surge of rage that threatened to consume him.

"Leader..." Upon seeing Ning Yu, the injured team member struggled to get up, but Ning Yu held him down.

"Take good care of your injuries," Ning Yu's voice was deep but full of strength, "I will definitely get justice for you!"

He walked out of the medical room, gazing at the gloomy sky, his mind made up. He would not let any of those who spread rumors, sowed discord, or even dared to harm him get away with it!

However, just as he was about to take action, a figure blocked his way.

“Ning Yu, those newcomers are all very scared. You need to go and calm them down…”

Mu Xue stood in front of him, a hint of worry in her eyes.

"Now?" Ning Yu's tone was impatient. He turned around abruptly, his sharp gaze seeming to pierce through the person blocking his way.

"Those rumors have already shaken morale; if they aren't dealt with quickly..."

Before Mu Xue could finish speaking, Ning Yu impatiently interrupted her, "Those cowards are scared out of their wits by a little rumor. Even if you keep them around, they'll only be a burden on the battlefield!"
