As the smoke cleared, the warm sun shone once more on the ravaged land. Cheers and celebratory shouts echoed throughout Ning Yu's camp. The fierce battle of a few days ago seemed like a thing of the past.
"Boss, the supplies we captured this time are enough to last the brothers for several months!" A burly man with a scar on his face said excitedly to Ning Yu.
"Yes, boss, you were a brilliant strategist! You crushed those guys in one fell swoop!"
"Boss, you're our hero!"
Hearing the praises around him, Ning Yu simply smiled calmly. He knew that behind this victory lay the blood and lives of countless brothers. He looked around at the faces brimming with hope and joy, and the sense of responsibility in his heart grew even heavier.
"Report—" A scout rushed into the command post, knelt on one knee, and said urgently, "Reporting to the leader, we have discovered a place to the south..." The scout paused abruptly, as if considering something, and then raised his head after a moment, his eyes flashing with disbelief, his voice trembling slightly: "There...there seems to be a...an intact city!"
Upon hearing this, the previously noisy command post fell instantly silent; you could hear a pin drop. Everyone stared at the scout in disbelief, as if listening to a fairy tale.
"What did you say?!" Even Ning Yu, who was usually unsmiling, suddenly stood up, strode up to the scout, and asked urgently, "Are you sure you didn't see wrong?"
“Absolutely true!” the scout said firmly. “I saw it with my own eyes. Although the city has been abandoned for a long time, the buildings are intact, the supplies are plentiful, and…” He paused, as if organizing his thoughts, “and, it seems that there are still remnants of…”
"What's left behind?" Mu Xue appeared beside Ning Yu at some point and asked.
"There seems to be some residual... energy reaction there," the scout said slowly, taking a deep breath.
"An energy reaction?!"
This news was undoubtedly like a bombshell, sending shockwaves through everyone's minds. After all, in a post-nuclear world, energy is more precious than life itself!
"I want to go and see for myself!" Ning Yu decided immediately.
"I want to go too!" Mu Xue said without hesitation. "How can I be left out at a time like this?"
Ning Yu did not refuse, as he was well aware of Mu Xue's strength and determination.
Several hours later, an elite squad assembled and, led by Ning Yu and Mu Xue, sped off in the direction the scouts had indicated. Along the way, everyone was filled with a mixture of anticipation and worry.
When they arrived at their destination, the sight before them left them speechless with shock.
A vast city stands silently on a desolate plain, bathed in the afterglow of the setting sun. Towering buildings, wide streets, exquisite sculptures... everything seems frozen in time at the moment of disaster, filled with the atmosphere of pre-apocalyptic prosperity and civilization.
“This…this is simply a miracle…” one of the team members murmured to himself.
“Yes…” Ning Yu took a deep breath, suppressing his excitement, and ordered in a deep voice, “Everyone, be on high alert, prepare to enter the city!”
However, the moment they stepped into the city, a strange chill ran through them. The surrounding air seemed to suddenly become thick and viscous, carrying a nauseating stench.
"careful!"
Before Ning Yu could finish speaking, a dark figure suddenly darted out from a nearby building and pounced on the last member of the group with lightning speed...
The shadowy figure moved with astonishing speed; before anyone could react, the team member was already tackled to the ground. The screams abruptly ceased, replaced by a chilling tearing sound and the cracking of bones.
"Enemy attack!" Ning Yu shouted, instantly activating his superpower, and an invisible barrier enveloped the team.
The other team members also reacted quickly, drawing their weapons and nervously watching their surroundings.
"What is that?"
In the dim light, everyone finally saw the attacker's true form. It was a humanoid creature covered in grayish-white scales, moving on all fours with the agility of a cheetah. It had a hideous face, no nose, only a gaping maw filled with sharp teeth, a scarlet tongue licking its lips, and bloodthirsty glints in its eyes.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu's face darkened, and he condensed a dazzling bolt of lightning in his hand, blasting it towards the monster.
The lightning bolt struck the monster's body with incredible speed. However, to everyone's surprise, the monster only trembled slightly before continuing its charge towards the group as if nothing had happened. Its scales seemed to possess extremely strong defensive capabilities, actually blocking Ning Yu's lightning attack!
"Its weakness isn't on the outside!" one of the team members exclaimed. He had seen his bullets hit the monster, but it was like hitting a steel plate; they couldn't penetrate the hard scales at all.
"roar--!"
The monster let out a deafening roar and lunged at another team member.
Ning Yu wanted to strike again, but it was too late. He could only watch helplessly as the monster pounced on his teammate, tearing open his throat with its sharp claws...
"Damn it!" Ning Yu's eyes were bloodshot, his heart burning with rage. The speed and defense of these monsters exceeded his expectations. What was even more troublesome was that they seemed to have a certain resistance to supernatural abilities, which greatly reduced the effectiveness of his attacks.
"This won't do, we'll be picked off one by one!" one of the team members said anxiously. Their weapons were no match for the monsters, and close combat would only lead to their deaths.
