A blinding red laser beam shot out from beneath Ning Yu's feet, heading straight for a team member at the back of the group. Everything happened in the blink of an eye; Ning Yu didn't even have time to warn him before the team member was enveloped in the red light.
"Watch out!" In the nick of time, Mu Xue shoved the teammate aside, but exposed herself to the laser beam. The red light grazed her arm, leaving a trail of blood. The intense pain made her groan and stagger back a few steps.
"Mu Xue!" Ning Yu exclaimed in alarm, rushing to Mu Xue's side and supporting her swaying body. He quickly took out an emergency spray from his backpack and sprayed it on the wound on Mu Xue's arm. The burning pain made Mu Xue grit her teeth, her face turning pale.
"I'm fine..." She took a deep breath, trying to force a smile, but the movement aggravated her wound, causing her to gasp in pain.
"Don't speak yet." Ning Yu's expression was solemn. After quickly treating his wound, he bandaged it up. He raised his head, his sharp gaze scanning the surroundings, searching for the source of the laser emission.
"Damn it, what kind of place is this?!" one of the team members couldn't help but curse, his voice tinged with fear.
"Quiet down!" Ning Yu shouted in a low voice, "Don't panic!"
However, before his warning could take effect, another red laser beam shot from another direction, aimed directly at the center of the group...
The red laser, like a venomous snake, traced a strange arc in the air, heading straight for the team members in the center. Screams erupted as the team members scrambled to dodge, instantly disrupting their previously orderly formation. Some tripped and fell, others ran haphazardly, and the once peaceful corridor instantly transformed into a chaotic escape route.
"Calm down! Everyone calm down!" Ning Yu roared, his voice echoing in the empty corridor, but he could hardly suppress the panic that filled the air. He grabbed Mu Xue, who had almost been knocked down by her companion, and shielded her behind him, while his eyes quickly scanned the surroundings, trying to find the source of the attack.
However, the lasers seemed to shoot from nowhere, without any warning or discernible pattern. Each attack was precise and deadly, forcing them to constantly scramble to keep up.
“These attacks… seem to be operating according to some kind of formation!” Mu Xue, who had been observing silently, suddenly spoke up. She clutched her injured arm, her brows furrowed. “Look at the angles at which those lasers appear, and the time intervals between each attack—they’re all too precise.”
Ning Yu's heart stirred. He carefully observed the trajectories of the laser beams again and indeed discovered some clues. The angles at which the lasers appeared were not completely random, but rather subtly formed a peculiar pattern, like some ancient symbol, filled with a mysterious and dangerous aura.
"An array..." Ning Yu murmured to himself, a glint of light flashing in his eyes. He had once seen a similar record in an ancient book, said to be a mysterious power used by ancient civilizations for defense and attack. Could it be that such a secret is hidden within this forgotten building?
Before they could think, a new attack struck. Ning Yu decisively pulled Mu Xue aside to dodge, while his mind raced, rapidly calculating the changes in the formation. He had to find the core of the formation as quickly as possible, or they would be trapped in this death maze forever.
He tried moving his feet, adjusting his position relative to his surroundings, attempting to find a way to break the formation. However, each attempt seemed to trigger some kind of mechanism, resulting in new attacks. Lasers, traps, and even suddenly appearing metal blades—a series of deadly dangers followed one after another, forcing them to constantly struggle on the edge of life and death.
“This can’t go on…” Ning Yu wiped the sweat from his face, a sense of helplessness rising within him. He knew their time was running out. He looked up at his teammates; every face was etched with exhaustion and despair. Even the usually composed Mu Xue had a flicker of barely perceptible fear in her eyes.
“Ning Yu…” Mu Xue’s voice was a little hoarse. She looked at Ning Yu, her eyes filled with worry, “We…”
Before she could finish speaking, the entire corridor suddenly shook violently, the ceiling above began to collapse, and rubble and dust rained down. Ning Yu's expression changed, and a strong sense of unease rose in her heart:
"Oh no, this place is going to collapse!"
The collapse of the ceiling seemed like a harbinger of the apocalypse. Boulders rumbled, dust flew, and panicked screams were drowned out by the chaos. Ning Yu held Mu Xue tightly in his arms, as a boulder grazed overhead, sending a blast of scorching air through the air.
"Cough cough..." Mu Xue coughed, choking on the fumes. She struggled to stand up, but Ning Yu held her tightly. "Don't move! It's too dangerous here!"
"But the others..." Mu Xue's voice was filled with anxiety. She looked at the team members fleeing in panic around her, her eyes welling up with tears. "We can't abandon them!"
Ning Yu understood, of course, but in the current situation, every additional person meant greater danger. He looked around; the once orderly line had been scattered, everyone was struggling desperately for survival, and despair was spreading through the crowd.
"Cough cough..." One team member collapsed in a pool of blood, clutching his chest in pain as blood gushed from between his fingers. Another team member tried to help him up, but was struck by a sudden laser beam, screaming as he fell to the ground.
"This can't go on, we'll all die here!" a team member shouted in despair. He threw down his weapon, squatted on the ground in despair, and waited for death to come.
Ning Yu's heart sank. He knew that if they couldn't find a way to break the formation, death was the only thing waiting for them. He forced himself to calm down, his eyes quickly scanning the surroundings, trying to find a glimmer of order in the chaos.
