"Roar—" A deep roar came from all directions, like countless wild beasts lurking in the darkness, greedily watching them. The sound was like a thunderclap, instantly shattering the brief peace of the group.
"What's going on? This sound..." Zhang Qiang's voice trembled slightly as he gripped the rusty steel pipe in his hand, his knuckles turning white.
Mu Xue's heart sank, a chill running from her feet to the top of her head. Having survived countless life-or-death situations, she had an almost instinctive premonition of danger. This time, the danger seemed more intense than ever before.
"Be on guard!" she whispered, her voice betraying her exhaustion and tension.
The team members were already exhausted, their supernatural abilities depleted, but their survival instincts spurred them to stay alert. They formed a circle, protecting the unconscious Ning Yu in the center. They warily surveyed their surroundings; the dense grass and jagged rocks, in the dim light, seemed like menacing monsters ready to devour them.
"Captain, what do we do? We're..." A team member's voice trembled slightly. They were out of ammunition and food, and exhausted. Facing an unknown enemy, despair was inevitable.
"Roar—" The roar grew closer and closer, as if it were right next to his ear, sending chills down his spine.
Mu Xue took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. She looked around, searching for any place to hide or fight back. However, all she could see were desolate ruins and overgrown grass.
"Snap—"
A soft snap, like the sound of a dry twig breaking underfoot, was exceptionally clear in the still night. Everyone's nerves were on edge, and their eyes turned in unison towards the direction from which the sound came.
"Varied……"
Before one of the team members could finish speaking, a huge beast suddenly leaped out of the grass. It was enormous, like a deformed bison, its entire body covered in thick scales that reflected a cold, eerie light in the moonlight. It opened its blood-red maw, revealing sharp fangs, and a stench filled the air, making one want to vomit.
"Ah!" the team members exclaimed, hurriedly raising their weapons to defend themselves. The rusty steel pipes and sharpened stones appeared utterly vulnerable before the beast's hard scales.
"boom--"
The beast's massive body slammed into the outer edge of the group. Several team members were unable to dodge in time and were thrown back, crashing heavily to the ground with painful groans.
"Don't panic! Stay calm!" Mu Xue shouted, channeling her energy into Ning Yu to maintain his vital signs while directing the other team members, "Zhang Qiang, take two people to attack its legs, the rest of you follow me to distract it!"
In this critical moment, Mu Xue displayed remarkable calmness and decisiveness. She understood that in their current state, a direct confrontation would only result in total annihilation.
Zhang Qiang and the others knew this was no time to hesitate. They gritted their teeth, raised their weapons, and slashed at the beast's legs. However, the beast's hide was thick and tough, and their attacks only left shallow scratches, unable to cause any real damage.
"roar--"
The beast, in pain, became even more ferocious. It suddenly swung its head, knocking one of the team members away, and blood drew a shocking arc in the air.
"Third brother!"
Damn it!
The team members were filled with rage, but they were powerless to do anything. They were being forced back by the ferocious beast and were on the verge of collapse.
Mu Xue was extremely anxious. She turned her head and glanced at the unconscious Ning Yu, a resolute look flashing in her eyes.
"You guys hold on, I'll see if I can..."
Before she could finish speaking, she saw the beast suddenly turn around and charge towards her... A foul stench, mixed with the beast's roar, rushed towards her. Mu Xue's heart tightened, and she instinctively shielded Ning Yu behind her. Without time to think, she mobilized all her supernatural abilities, and a thin layer of ice shield instantly condensed in front of her.
"boom!"
The beast slammed heavily against the ice shield, producing a deafening sound. The ice shield trembled violently, cracking into a spiderweb pattern, before finally shattering into countless ice crystals with a "crack," dissipating into the air. Mu Xue groaned, thrown back several steps by the immense impact, nearly falling.
"team leader!"
"Sister Xue!"
The team members gasped, but the beast's attack showed no sign of abating. Its blood-red eyes were fixed on Mu Xue, as if it had identified her as the greatest threat. It roared and charged again, its sharp claws gleaming coldly in the moonlight, aiming straight for Mu Xue's throat.
"careful!"
In the critical moment, Zhang Qiang rushed over and used his body to block the beast's fatal blow.
"Tear—"
The sound of flesh being torn apart was horrifying. Zhang Qiang groaned as a huge wound was ripped open by the beast's claws, and blood instantly stained his clothes.
"Zhang Qiang!"
"Damn beast!"
The team members' eyes were bloodshot, burning with rage. However, anger could not change the situation. The beast's attacks grew increasingly fierce; they were already wounded and exhausted, on the verge of collapse.
Mu Xue was extremely anxious, her eyes constantly scanning her surroundings, trying to find a glimmer of hope. Suddenly, her eyes lit up as she spotted a dark cave entrance not far away.
"A cave! There's a cave over there!" Mu Xue pointed to the cave entrance and shouted, "Let's hide inside first!"
"good!"
The team members seemed to have grasped at a straw, desperately resisting the beast's attacks and struggling to move towards the cave.
