Chapter 255 Exploring the Cave, the Perilous Journey Begins Again

"Damn it!" Ning Yu roared, watching more and more vines wrap around them, his heart filled with despair... Suddenly, he felt a powerful force coming from behind him... "Ning Yu!"

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue screamed in anguish. Seeing Ning Yu entangled in the vines, she rushed forward without hesitation. Sharp thorns from the vines pierced Ning Yu's wrists, drawing blood that snaked down the vines, appearing particularly glaring in the dim cave.

Ning Yu groaned, enduring the excruciating pain, and tried to tear the vines off with his other hand, only to find that they were exceptionally tough and impossible to break. More vines, like pythons attracted by blood, surged towards him frantically, threatening to devour him completely.

In the nick of time, Mu Xue lunged at Ning Yu and bit down on the vine binding his wrist. A foul, fishy smell instantly filled her mouth, but she didn't hesitate. She tore at the vine with all her might, as if she wanted to pour all her fear and anger into that one bite.

With a crisp "snap," the tough vine was finally severed by Mu Xue's bite. Ning Yu felt his wrist loosen, immediately pulled his hand back, and blood gushed out, staining Mu Xue's cheeks red.

"Run!" Ning Yu, disregarding the need to bandage his wounds, grabbed Mu Xue and ran forward. The two stumbled and staggered, desperately fleeing through the narrow cave, the vines clinging to them like leeches.

"Cough cough..." Mu Xue coughed violently, her mouth filled with vine sap and blood, the sweet and metallic taste making her want to vomit. But she dared not stop; she knew that once she stopped, they would have no chance to escape.

Ning Yu helped Mu Xue navigate the winding cave. With his exceptional reflexes and keen observation of the terrain, he constantly changed direction, dodging the attacks of the vines. The cave echoed with their rapid breathing and the rustling of the vines against the walls, like a deathly symphony.

Finally, after running through a long passage, the vines behind them seemed to have lost their trail, and their attacks gradually weakened. Ning Yu and Mu Xue dared not let their guard down and continued running for a while before daring to stop and rest.

Ning Yu leaned against the damp cave wall, panting heavily. He looked down at the wound on his wrist, which was now stained crimson with blood, a shocking sight. He tore off a piece of his clothing and hastily bandaged the wound, then looked up at Mu Xue.

Mu Xue's face was pale, her lips were cracked, and there was still blood at the corner of her mouth, but her eyes were firm and she showed no fear.

"Are you alright?" Ning Yu asked with concern.

Mu Xue shook her head. "It's alright, we need to get out of here quickly."

Ning Yu nodded and was about to get up when he suddenly froze. His gaze went past Mu Xue's shoulder and looked ahead, his pupils suddenly contracting.

Mu Xue also noticed Ning Yu's unusual behavior and followed his gaze. Before them lay a bottomless chasm, darkness engulfing everything, like a gateway to hell. A chilling wind blew from the depths of the chasm, carrying a terrifying howling sound.

"This..." Mu Xue gasped, instinctively gripping Ning Yu's arm tightly.

Ning Yu didn't speak, but stared intently at the chasm, his face terribly gloomy.

“It seems…” he began slowly, his voice low and hoarse, “we’re in trouble again.” He gripped Mu Xue’s hand tightly, feeling the warmth from her palm, a resolute glint in his eyes.

The chasm, like an insurmountable chasm, completely blocked Ning Yu and Mu Xue's escape route. The dark abyss, like a colossal beast, silently opened its blood-red maw, waiting to devour any living being that dared to approach.

"Just how deep is this chasm?" Mu Xue's voice trembled slightly as she gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly, as if she had grasped a lifeline.

Ning Yu didn't answer. He squinted, carefully observing the edge of the chasm. The walls were steep and smooth, offering no footholds; even with his supernatural abilities, he couldn't easily cross it. A damp, rotten stench permeated the chasm, making one nauseous. Occasionally, chilling growls could be heard emanating from its depths, like the cries of some unknown creature.

"It seems we need to think of another way," Ning Yu said in a deep voice, his tone tinged with seriousness.

The two walked cautiously along the edge of the chasm, searching for any possibility of crossing. The cave was dimly lit, and they could only rely on their makeshift torches for illumination. The limited light illuminated only a small area, adding to the eeriness of the surroundings. Water droplets occasionally fell from the cave ceiling, the pitter-patter sound particularly clear in the silent cave, like the footsteps of death, pounding against their hearts.

"Ning Yu, look!" Mu Xue suddenly pointed ahead and said, her tone filled with surprise.

Ning Yu looked in the direction Mu Xue was pointing and saw a narrow stone beam spanning the ravine not far away. The beam was less than a foot wide and looked precarious, as if it might break at any moment.

"Will this... work?" Mu Xue hesitated, feeling uneasy about Shi Liang's condition.

Ning Yu remained silent. He walked to the edge of the stone beam and examined it carefully. The surface of the beam was covered in moss, making it extremely slippery; a slight misstep could send him tumbling into the abyss. However, he noticed that both ends of the beam were deeply embedded in the ravine wall, appearing quite stable.

“It’s worth a try.” Ning Yu took a deep breath, a resolute glint in his eyes.

He turned around and said to Mu Xue, "I'll go first, you follow behind me."

Mu Xue nodded. Although she was filled with fear, she still chose to believe Ning Yu.

Ning Yu carefully stepped onto the stone bridge, each step taken with extreme caution. The surface of the stone bridge was extremely slippery, and he could only try his best to maintain his balance to avoid slipping. He held his breath, focusing all his attention on his feet, not daring to be distracted in the slightest.

Mu Xue followed closely behind, her eyes fixed on Ning Yu's steps, afraid that she might fall if she wasn't careful. Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst out of her chest.

Just as the two were about to reach the center of the stone beam, Ning Yu suddenly stopped.

"What's wrong?" Mu Xue asked anxiously.

Ning Yu did not answer. He bent down, picked up a stone, and threw it into the depths of the ditch.

The two held their breath and listened quietly.

One second, two seconds, three seconds...

Still, no sound came from the other side...

Ning Yu's expression grew even more serious. He raised his head, looked at Mu Xue, and slowly said, "This chasm..."
