The stone door emitted a teeth-grinding scraping sound. With the combined efforts of the two, the gap finally widened a little more, but it was still a long way from being completely opened.
The giant's arm was almost within reach, and the howling wind whispered like the death god, foreshadowing its imminent demise.
"Mu Xue, you go in first!" Ning Yu roared, his muscles tense, the effects of the strength-enhancing capsules still lasting, and waves of heat surging through his body.
"Together!" Mu Xue didn't hesitate at all; her slender arms burst forth with astonishing power as she fought alongside Ning Yu.
The giant's shadow loomed over them, its enormous hand threatening to swallow them whole.
The fear of death surged like a tide, but it also ignited an even stronger survival instinct in the two.
"Drink!" Ning Yu roared, unleashing all the remaining power within him. The stone door made a dull thud, and the crack suddenly widened.
"Quick!" Ning Yu shoved Mu Xue toward the stone door. Mu Xue reacted quickly, slipping inside in a flash. Ning Yu followed closely behind, squeezing into the narrow gap.
At the critical moment, the giant's massive hand grazed Ning Yu's clothes, and the gust of wind whipped up his garments, like the tentacles of death.
Inside the stone gate, it was pitch black, so dark you couldn't see your hand in front of your face.
The heavy smell of dust, mixed with some indescribable odor, made Ning Yu feel a tightness in his chest.
He groped along the rough stone wall, trying to find a glimmer of light.
"Mu Xue?" Ning Yu called out softly, his voice echoing only in the darkness.
"I'm here." Mu Xue's voice came from not far away, trembling slightly.
Ning Yu felt a little relieved and followed the sound, finally touching Mu Xue's hand. Her hand was unusually cold, like a block of ice.
"Be careful." Ning Yu gripped Mu Xue's hand tightly, and the two moved forward slowly, taking each step with utmost care.
Suddenly, Ning Yu felt something under his feet, making a soft "click" sound.
He immediately stopped, held his breath, and listened carefully to the sounds around him.
"What's that sound?" Mu Xue's voice was close to his ear, tinged with nervousness.
Ning Yu didn't answer, but slowly squatted down, feeling around for the object at his feet. It was cold to the touch and had a peculiar shape…
“It looks like… a bone…” Ning Yu’s voice was low and hoarse.
Mu Xue gasped sharply.
A strong, putrid stench hit them, almost suffocating Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
Mu Xue couldn't help but cover her nose and complain in a low voice, "What a smell, it's disgusting!" Ning Yu looked around warily, his senses becoming unusually sharp in the darkness.
"Be careful, this place might not be safe." Ning Yu's voice was low and serious. He gripped Mu Xue's hand tightly, and the coldness of her hand made him even more uneasy.
The darkness, like a heavy curtain, enveloped them tightly.
They could only grope their way forward step by step along the rough stone wall.
Every step felt like walking on a knife's edge, requiring utmost caution, for fear of encountering some unknown danger.
"Ah!" A scream pierced the silent darkness.
Mu Xue abruptly pulled her foot back, her body trembling, and clung tightly to Ning Yu.
"I stepped on something soft...it's disgusting!"
Ning Yu's heart sank. He immediately squatted down and touched what Mu Xue had just stepped on. It was sticky to the touch and had a nauseating, fishy smell.
"Don't move." Ning Yu's voice trembled slightly as he groped around, feeling that the shape of the thing was somewhat like... a piece of meat?
This discovery sent a chill down Ning Yu's spine. He immediately realized that this place might be more dangerous than they had imagined.
"Hurry!" Ning Yu suddenly pulled Mu Xue up, ignoring the darkness underfoot, and ran forward quickly.
They stumbled forward, unable to see anything in the darkness, only able to hear each other's rapid breathing and heartbeats.
Suddenly, Ning Yu felt his footing give way, and he plummeted downwards. Instinctively, he grabbed Mu Xue tightly, and the two tumbled together into a cave of unknown depth.
"Hiss..." Ning Yu gasped, feeling a sharp pain in his back. He struggled to stand up, only to find his feet tangled in something.
"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue exclaimed, also sensing the abnormality beneath her feet.
Ning Yu groped around and touched something slippery and cold. The thing was still wriggling, seemingly a living creature.
"What is this..." Ning Yu's voice trembled, tinged with fear.
He groped around, trying to break free from the thing's grasp, but found that it tightened its grip even more, as if it wanted to devour them...
"It seems... there are more and more..." Mu Xue's voice trembled, tinged with despair.
A faint green light suddenly shone, illuminating the small space.
The simple lighting tool in Ning Yu's hand dispelled some of the darkness and also illuminated the terrifying scene beneath their feet.
The densely packed, wriggling insects surged like a black tide, emitting a chilling rustling sound.
Their bodies were plump and gleamed with a nauseating sheen. Countless tiny legs moved rapidly as they crawled toward Ning Yu and Mu Xue.
Mu Xue gasped, her stomach churning. "What the hell is this?!" She gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly, her face pale.
Ning Yu, suppressing his nausea, pulled Mu Xue up. "Don't just stand there, run!"
They turned to run back, only to find that the stone door behind them had been tightly shut, leaving only a cold stone wall. Their escape route was completely blocked.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath, his heart sinking to the bottom. Caught in a pincer attack, they seemed to be in dire straits.
