“Mu Xue…” Ning Yu’s voice was low and urgent, almost squeezed out from between his teeth.
The enormous black shadow became even clearer in the dim light, moving slowly like a small mountain, carrying a suffocating sense of oppression.
Mu Xue gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly, her fingertips turning white. She could feel the tension in Ning Yu's muscles and the tense atmosphere in the air.
The cave was eerily quiet, save for their rapid breathing and the faint rustling sounds of the dark figure moving.
"Let's go!" Ning Yu shouted, pulling Mu Xue along as they ran deeper into the cave. He knew that confronting such a colossal creature head-on was definitely not a wise move.
They ran swiftly along the cave wall, their feet treading on jagged rocks, where a slight misstep could send them tumbling down.
The cave was dimly lit, but the crystals that shimmered with strange light now resembled will-o'-the-wisps, casting shadows on everything around them and adding to the eeriness of the place.
Mu Xue dared not utter a sound, following closely behind Ning Yu, her heart pounding in her chest.
Suddenly, a low buzzing sound came from all directions, as if something was gathering strength in the shadows.
Mu Xue shuddered in fright and instinctively grabbed Ning Yu's arm tightly.
Ning Yu immediately stopped and gestured for her to be quiet.
He held his breath, listening intently to the sounds around him. The buzzing grew louder and closer, as if it were vibrating right next to their ears.
Ning Yu sensed a powerful energy fluctuation that made him uneasy, as if something terrifying was about to break free.
He gripped the dagger in his hand tightly, looking around warily, trying to find the source of the sound.
"Ning Yu..." Mu Xue's voice trembled as she clung tightly to Ning Yu, as if only in this way could she find a sense of security.
Ning Yu gently patted the back of her hand to reassure her.
He took a deep breath and fixed his gaze on what appeared to be a flat surface in front of him.
There, something seemed to be wriggling, breathing… Ning Yu had just taken a step…
Ning Yu had just taken a step when the ground beneath his feet suddenly collapsed, and he unexpectedly fell into a small pit.
"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue exclaimed in surprise, instinctively reaching out to pull him, only to find that the soil around the pit was unusually soft. Half of her body was sticking out, swaying precariously, and she almost fell in with him.
"Don't come any closer!" Ning Yu steadied himself in the pit and shouted a warning to Mu Xue.
He surveyed his surroundings in the dim light and found that the pit was not deep, and there were some strange patterns at the bottom, like some kind of ancient totem or mechanism, which shimmered with an eerie light in the dim light.
Just as he was about to take a closer look, countless sharp spikes suddenly emerged from the pit wall, gleaming with a metallic sheen, and hurtled towards him with a whooshing sound.
Ning Yu was startled and quickly dodged, but the pit was too small and his movements were restricted. Several sharp spikes grazed his clothes, leaving several deep cuts.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath, brandishing his dagger and slicing off the approaching spikes one by one, but the spikes seemed endless, surging forward one after another.
Mu Xue, who was above, was extremely anxious. She looked around, found a thick tree branch, broke it off, and then stretched it into the pit.
"Ning Yu, grab him!" she shouted anxiously.
While dodging the attacks of the spikes, Ning Yu reached out to grab a tree branch.
The spikes were moving faster and faster, and their density was increasing, leaving him almost no chance to catch his breath.
Mu Xue's hands were red from being cut by the branches, but she gritted her teeth and tried her best to pull Ning Yu up.
Just as Ning Yu's hand was about to touch the branch, a chilling scraping sound suddenly came from the bottom of the pit... "There's... something down there..." Ning Yu's expression changed drastically.

While dodging the spikes, Ning Yu reached out and grabbed a tree branch.
The rough texture of the object reassured him somewhat, and he used it to climb upwards, pushing hard against the pit wall with his feet to minimize the burden on Mu Xue.
"Give it your all!" Ning Yu said through gritted teeth. He could sense Mu Xue's struggle and knew he had to get out of this dangerous situation as soon as possible.
The eerie scraping sound from the bottom of the pit grew louder and louder, as if some enormous creature was awakening.
The voice urged Ning Yu on, making him dare not slack off in the slightest.
The spikes continued to attack relentlessly, and he could only try to shrink his body to avoid being stabbed in vital areas.
Finally, with Mu Xue's help, Ning Yu climbed out of the pit. Before he could thank Mu Xue, he pulled her behind him and kept a wary eye on the pit.
Before they could even catch their breath, the buzzing sound started again, growing louder and louder, as if something was flying towards them.
Ning Yu squinted, trying to make out who it was in the dim light.
Soon, several dark figures swooped down from the sky at an astonishing speed.
"Watch out!" Ning Yu shoved Mu Xue aside and drew his dagger, ready to fight.
As the shadowy figures drew closer, Ning Yu finally made out their appearance.
It was a creature resembling a giant insect, with a hard shell and sharp claws; the buzzing sound was the sound of its wings vibrating.
One of the giant insects lunged at Ning Yu, but he dodged the attack by sidestepping it. The dagger in his hand sliced across the insect's abdomen, leaving only a shallow mark.
The giant insect let out a sharp cry and attacked even more frantically.
Mu Xue also realized what was happening. She picked up a stone from the ground and threw it at another giant insect.
