Chapter 271 The source of wind is so close, danger fills the heart

The poisonous fog gradually dissipated, revealing the hidden scene behind it like the receding tide.

The shimmering barrier, like a gate to heaven, stood silently in front of us.

The source of the wind is right here.

"We've arrived!" Ning Yu's voice was filled with barely suppressed excitement. After a long period of escape and fighting, they finally saw a glimmer of hope.

Mu Xue didn't speak, but stared intently at the barrier, her eyes flashing with a complex light.

There was anticipation, doubt, and a hint of barely perceptible fear.

She slowly reached out and tentatively touched the barrier.

"Sizzle!"

A piercing crackling sound of electricity rang out, and as soon as Mu Xue's fingers touched the barrier, they were repelled by a powerful force.

She staggered back a few steps and fell to the ground with a thud.

"Mu Xue!" Ning Yu was startled and rushed forward to help her up. "Are you alright?"

Mu Xue shook her head, rubbing her slightly numb arm, her face a little pale. "This barrier... is strange."

Ning Yu's gaze also turned serious.

He stretched out his hand, mobilizing his supernatural power. A visible energy wave surged from his palm and struck the barrier.

However, the anticipated impact did not occur. The superpower touched the barrier and vanished without a trace, like a stone sinking into the sea, without even causing a ripple.

Ning Yu frowned, and tried several more times, but the result was still the same. This barrier seemed like a bottomless pit, capable of swallowing all energy attacks.

“This…” Ning Yu’s expression turned somewhat grim. He had originally thought that as long as he reached the source of the wind, he would be able to find a solution to the problem, but now it seemed that things were far more complicated than he had imagined.

He began to examine the barrier's structure closely and discovered that its surface was not smooth but engraved with strange runes.

These runes shimmered with a faint light, as if they contained some kind of mysterious power.

“Look at these runes…” Ning Yu said to Mu Xue, pointing to the runes on the barrier.

Mu Xue also came over and carefully examined the runes. Although she was proficient in all kinds of mechanisms and traps, she knew nothing about these strange runes.

The two stared silently at the runes on the barrier, a strange sense of oppression enveloping their hearts.

“These runes… I feel like I’ve seen them somewhere before…” Mu Xue suddenly spoke, her tone tinged with uncertainty.

Ning Yu turned to look at her, "Where are you?"

"Where is it?" Ning Yu asked urgently. Mu Xue hesitated for a moment, then shook her head. "I can't remember right now. It's like... I've seen it in a dream, but it's all so vague." A sense of unease clung to the two of them like vines. Feng Yuan was so close, yet it felt like there was an insurmountable chasm between them.

Ning Yu took a deep breath, dispelling his distracting thoughts. "No matter what, I have to try." He activated his supernatural ability, condensing a thin beam of energy at his fingertips, and carefully traced the runes on the barrier, trying to find a frequency that resonated with them.

Despite repeated attempts, the barrier remained unmoved, while Ning Yu's supernatural power was rapidly depleting.

Sweat soaked through his clothes, and his face gradually turned pale.

“This won’t do,” Mu Xue said anxiously as she looked at Ning Yu’s gradually weakening state. “Your special ability won’t last long. You should rest for a while.”

Ning Yu gritted his teeth and reluctantly withdrew his hand. He knew that Mu Xue was right; such a blind attempt was futile.

The runes on the barrier are complex and obscure, and cannot be deciphered in a short time.

“Perhaps there are some clues we haven’t found yet,” Mu Xue looked around, her gaze falling on the ground around the barrier, where some pebbles and weeds were scattered. “Since these runes are here, they must have their significance.”

Ning Yu followed Mu Xue's gaze and saw that apart from the pebbles and weeds, there seemed to be nothing special on the ground.

"I'll go take a look over there," Mu Xue said, walking towards a pile of rubble on the left side of the barrier.

Ning Yu nodded, meditated to recover his powers, and cautiously observed his surroundings.

Mu Xue pushed aside the dense weeds among the pile of rocks, revealing a stone slab engraved with runes.

A surge of joy filled her heart, and she was about to reach out to touch it when she suddenly felt her feet sink into the ground...

"Mu Xue!" Ning Yu shouted, suddenly opened his eyes, and leaped up.

Just as Mu Xue was about to fall, he reached out his hand, and a powerful suction pulled Mu Xue back.

Mu Xue, still shaken, slumped down beside Ning Yu, patting her chest with lingering fear.

"What happened?" Ning Yu asked with concern.

"I think I've stepped on some kind of trap..." Mu Xue pointed to an inconspicuous small stone in the pile of rocks. Before she finished speaking, several sharp arrows that gleamed with cold light shot out from the ground and headed straight for the two of them.

Ning Yu reacted quickly, immediately activating his special ability to condense an energy barrier in front of him.

The arrow struck the barrier with a piercing metallic clang, sending sparks flying.

Although he blocked the arrow, the powerful impact still made Ning Yu's arm go numb, and a mouthful of blood welled up in his throat, which he forced down.

"You're injured?" Mu Xue anxiously helped Ning Yu up, and seeing the blood at the corner of his mouth, she was filled with self-blame. "It's all my fault..."

Ning Yu shook his head and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. "It's nothing, just a minor injury." His gaze fell again on the stone slab engraved with runes, and a realization dawned on him.

These runes are not random, but rather the trajectory of some kind of energy flow.
