Chapter 272 The Barrier Remains Unbroken, and the Predicament Deepens

After the blinding white light faded, Ning Yu found himself still standing in front of the stone tablet, but his body felt as if it had been hollowed out, weak and powerless.

He leaned against the stone tablet, panting heavily, as if the world before him was shrouded in a gray veil.

Mu Xue rushed forward to help him up, "Ning Yu! How are you feeling?"

Ning Yu shook his head, gritting his teeth, "I'm fine, just... a little exhausted." He looked up at the energy barrier that still stood in front of him, his eyes deep.

Just now, in the light, he seemed to have glimpsed how the barrier worked—a strange energy flow pattern, complex yet subtly revealing some kind of regularity.

He took a deep breath, mobilized the little supernatural power he had left, and adjusted the output frequency according to his own understanding, trying to resonate with the energy of the barrier.

A wisp of energy flowed from his fingertips, slowly touching the surface of the barrier.

However, this energy was too weak, and each output felt like draining the last bit of strength from his body.

His face turned deathly pale, and large beads of sweat rolled down his forehead.

Mu Xue watched anxiously from the side, wanting to help but not knowing where to start.

She had no way of getting involved in such delicate operations that involved supernatural abilities.

Suddenly, she noticed that the marks Ning Yu had made on the barrier were slowly disappearing. The patterns that had been shimmering with light were gradually dimming, as if they had been wiped away by an invisible hand.

"Ning Yu! Look!" Mu Xue exclaimed, pointing at the barrier.

Ning Yu also noticed this situation. He was extremely anxious and forcibly increased his power output despite the excruciating pain in his body.

His body began to tremble uncontrollably, and a mouthful of blood spurted from his mouth, splashing onto the cold stone slab.

"This can't go on..." Mu Xue supported the swaying Ning Yu, her voice trembling, "You'll die!"

Ning Yu suddenly shoved Mu Xue aside, staggered back toward the stone tablet, and his eyes flashed with a crazed light.

“I must…try one more time…” He reached out his trembling hand and touched the runes on the stone tablet again… “No! Don’t!” Mu Xue cried out in despair.

However, Ning Yu's hand had already touched the cold stone tablet...

Ning Yu also noticed the barrier's self-repair. He was extremely anxious and, despite the excruciating pain in his body, forcibly increased his power output.

His body felt like it was being churned, as supernatural powers raged chaotically through his meridians. His body began to tremble uncontrollably, and a mouthful of blood spurted from his mouth, splashing onto the cold stone slab, its crimson color glaringly bright.

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue exclaimed in surprise, and hurriedly supported the swaying Ning Yu. A chill ran from her fingertips straight to her heart.

His pale face and clenched teeth spoke volumes about the immense pain he was enduring.

"You'll die if you keep going like this!" Mu Xue's voice trembled, with a hint of crying. She wanted to persuade Ning Yu to give up, but she knew Ning Yu wouldn't listen.

His eyes burned with a fanatical flame; he was willing to give anything to break through this barrier.

Mu Xue bit her lip, took a deep breath, carefully leaned Ning Yu against the stone tablet, then stood up and scanned the surrounding environment with piercing eyes.

Overgrown with weeds and littered with pebbles, there seemed to be nothing else besides the mysterious stone tablet and the despairing energy barrier.

Unwilling to give up, she began frantically searching her surroundings for any possible clues that might allow her to break through the barrier.

She turned over pebbles and parted clumps of weeds, carefully observing every inch of land and every plant, hoping to find a clue.

Ning Yu leaned against the stone tablet, and the world before his eyes began to blur. A buzzing sound filled his ears, and Mu Xue's anxious shouts became distant and indistinct.

He felt his consciousness gradually fading and his control over his body slowly slipping away.

He knew he couldn't give up, and he couldn't fall apart.

He gritted his teeth, using his remaining willpower to sustain his ability to continue attacking the barrier.

However, the barrier remained unmoved, standing there indifferently like an insurmountable chasm.

It emitted a faint glow, as if mocking Ning Yu's powerlessness and struggle.

The flickering marks on the barrier where Ning Yu attacked have completely disappeared, restoring its previous smoothness and integrity.

Mu Xue continued her frantic search in the distance, experiencing disappointment and renewed hope time and time again.

Suddenly, she seemed to notice something, and she stood up abruptly, a look of surprise flashing in her eyes.

"Ning Yu..." She started to speak, but suddenly stopped, her gaze fixed on something in Ning Yu's hand... something that shimmered with a faint blue light...

Ning Yu felt his vision begin to blur, and the barrier in front of him seemed to turn into distorted ripples, flickering erratically.

He gritted his teeth, using his remaining willpower to sustain his supernatural abilities and continue attacking. The electric arcs dancing on his fingertips became weak and powerless, like candle flames flickering in the wind.

However, the barrier still showed no signs of being breached, and the smooth surface did not even have a single crack.

A chilling despair spread from the depths of his heart, devouring his last hope.

"Ning Yu!"

Mu Xue's voice ripped through Ning Yu's chaotic consciousness like a bolt of lightning.

He struggled to lift his head and saw Mu Xue running excitedly toward him, holding a stone high in her hand, her face beaming with the joy of surviving a disaster.

"Look! I found this!" Mu Xue ran up to Ning Yu and handed him the stone.

It was an irregular black stone with a rough surface covered with strange patterns, shimmering with a faint blue light in the dim light.

Ning Yu took the stone; it was icy cold to the touch.
