While dodging the attacks, he searched for anything he could use. His eyes quickly scanned his surroundings, and finally, his gaze landed on a protruding metal plate on the subway station wall...
Captain Chen was caught off guard by Ning Yu's sudden counterattack. Clutching his chest, he was furious and roared at his men, "Go! All of you, get him!"
His men, having received their orders, pounced on Ning Yu like wolves. Ning Yu, agile as ever, weaved through the narrow passages and abandoned ticket booths of the subway station, dodging the attacks. He grabbed a piece of gravel from the ground and hurled it at the nearest burly man.
"Bang!" A piece of gravel struck the burly man's forehead, and blood gushed out immediately. The man screamed in pain, clutching his forehead as he collapsed to the ground.
"Damn it, let's all attack together, don't let him get away!"
Ning Yu was forced into a corner, his back against the wall, watching the approaching crowd warily. He knew that if he couldn't escape his predicament soon, he would eventually be exhausted and fall into their hands.
Just as the two sides were locked in a stalemate, a chilling roar came from deep within the subway station.
"roar--!"
The sound was like a horn from hell, instantly stopping everyone in their tracks, a chill running from the soles of their feet to the top of their heads.
"What was that sound?" someone in Captain Chen's team asked in alarm.
Before anyone could answer, several dark figures rushed out of the darkness and pounced on the crowd.
"Ah—! It's a mutant rat!"
In the dim light, everyone could see the true faces of those dark figures.
They were several enormous mutated rats with scarlet eyes, sharp teeth, dripping disgusting saliva, and a stench emanating from them.
"Run!"
Those who had been besieging Ning Yu were thrown into chaos and scattered in all directions. The mutated rats couldn't distinguish friend from foe; they attacked everything in their path with rage. Screams, hisses, and the sound of claws tearing flesh mingled together, echoing throughout the subway station.
Ning Yu was stunned by this sudden turn of events, but he quickly realized that this might be his only chance to escape.
He observed the chaotic scene, his gaze fixed on a broken steel pipe not far away. Crouching low, he took advantage of the chaos caused by the mutated rats and Captain Chen's group to slowly move towards the steel pipe.
"Grab him! Don't let him get away!" Captain Chen's voice came from the chaotic crowd. He clearly hadn't forgotten Ning Yu, his "thorn in the side."
Ning Yu's heart skipped a beat; he knew he had to speed up. Just as he was about to touch the steel pipe, a gigantic mutated rat suddenly turned and pounced on him…
A foul stench swept over him, and Ning Yu instinctively leaned back, barely dodging the mutated rat's claws. He rolled over, grabbed a steel pipe from the ground, and stabbed it forcefully into the mutated rat's abdomen.
"Squeak—!" The steel pipe pierced through the mutated rat's body, and it let out a shrill scream before its massive body crashed to the ground.
Ning Yu had no time to catch his breath; several mutated rats were still eyeing him menacingly. He swung his steel pipe, forcing back the rats that tried to approach, and took the opportunity to run to the other side of the subway station.
"Quick, follow me!" Ning Yu ran towards the temporary shelter they had found earlier. It was a closed equipment room inside the subway station. Although it was rudimentary, it could at least provide temporary refuge from the mutated rats' attacks.
Captain Chen and his team were being chased by the mutated rats and were in a sorry state, so they had no time to pay attention to Ning Yu.
Ning Yu rushed into the equipment room, quickly closed the iron door, and locked it from the inside. A violent banging sound came from outside the door as the mutated rats frantically pounded on the iron door, emitting chilling roars.
Ning Yu leaned against the door, panting heavily.
"Huff...huff..."
He looked around; the equipment room was pitch black, with only a few faint rays of light seeping in through the crack in the door. He fumbled for his flashlight and turned it on, the dim light illuminating the small space.
The equipment room was filled with discarded tools and parts, and the air was thick with a damp, musty smell. Ning Yu noticed some dry, hard breadcrumbs scattered in the corner of the room.
food!
Ning Yu was overjoyed. He quickly walked over, squatted down, and gently brushed the dust off the breadcrumbs with his hand.
However, when he saw the true nature of the breadcrumbs, the joy on his face instantly froze.
"this…"
