Chapter 50 The Traitor is Exposed, the Clouds Clear and the Sun Shines

The towering flames cast flickering light on Ning Yu's face, his heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly, and a suffocating sensation almost overwhelmed him. "Xiao Wu," lying in a pool of blood, still wore the lingering joy and hope on his face, but now he was cold and stiff.

"Why?!" Ning Yu gritted his teeth, increasing the pressure in his hand, and the veins on the back of his hand gripping the man's neck bulged.

"Cough cough... The victor is king, the loser is villain, you should understand." The man uttered a few words with difficulty, but there was no fear on his face. Instead, a strange smile appeared on his face. "You think you can really change everything? Ning Yu, you're too naive..."

Before he could finish speaking, the man's pupils suddenly dilated, his body convulsed violently a few times, and then he fell silent.

Ning Yu released his grip, letting the cold corpse fall to the ground. He knew that no matter how many questions he asked, he wouldn't get any answers from the dead.

"Brother Ning, what do we do now?" The surviving members gathered around Ning Yu, their eyes filled with fear and unease.

"Everyone, organize a counterattack immediately and hold the camp!" Ning Yu took a deep breath, suppressing his grief and anger, and quickly issued the order, "The wounded are to be treated in one place, the rest of you follow me!"

He knew that now was not the time for grief; the most urgent task was to stabilize the situation and find out the truth!

The battle continued, and Ning Yu led his troops like a sharp dagger, piercing the enemy's heart. He calmly observed every detail of the battlefield, searching for the enemy hidden in the shadows.

"boom!"

With a loud bang, a corner of the camp collapsed, thick smoke billowed out, and the fire intensified.

Ning Yu's heart sank. He knew that this was definitely not an ordinary attack. The enemy's goal was very clear: to destroy their defensive fortifications!

"Who is it? Who is behind this?!" Ning Yu's gaze swept over the familiar faces around him, and a chill ran through him.

He carefully examined the damaged fortifications and noticed something strange. These defenses were meticulously designed; their weaknesses were unknown to the average person, unless… someone on the inside!

The thought struck Ning Yu like a bolt of lightning, sending chills down his spine.

"Could it be..." Several figures flashed through Ning Yu's mind, but he quickly dismissed them.

No, it couldn't be them. They are all brothers who have followed me for many years and would never betray me!

But if it wasn't them, then who was it?

Ning Yu was filled with doubt and unease. He realized that things were far more complicated than he had imagined, and a much larger conspiracy was quietly unfolding...

Smoke filled the air, and a tense atmosphere permeated the atmosphere. Ning Yu's face was grim, his gaze sweeping over everyone present like a hawk's. He knew that the enemy lurking in the shadows was more terrifying and dangerous than the one outside.

He began to investigate suspicious individuals one by one, questioning them about their movements and verifying their testimonies. He scrutinized every detail and every glance. This almost harsh investigative method caused discontent among some people.

"Brother Ning, what are you doing? Doubting our own people at this time will only throw us into chaos!" A burly man couldn't help but step forward and say. He was one of Ning Yu's capable henchmen, named Zhang Qiang.

Ning Yu ignored his complaints and coldly retorted, "If you are innocent, you should understand how critical the situation is, instead of questioning my decision here."

Zhang Qiang wanted to say something more, but his companions pulled him back. They could all feel the chilling killing intent emanating from Ning Yu, which sent shivers down their spines.

However, Ning Yu's investigation did not go as smoothly as he had imagined. The traitor hiding in the shadows seemed to have anticipated everything and began to secretly sabotage some important resources, attempting to frame other members.

"Reporting to Brother Ning, we've discovered that the grain reserve has been tampered with. Most of the grain is soaked in water and is completely inedible!" A member in charge of logistics rushed in to report.

"What?" Ning Yu's heart tightened, and a surge of anger rushed to his head. Food was the foundation of their survival; if anything went wrong, the consequences would be unimaginable.

"Who did it? Have you found out?" Ning Yu asked, barely suppressing his anger.

“We…we are still investigating, but…” the member stammered, as if he had something difficult to say.

"But what? Speak!"

"But we've discovered some...some clues about Zhang Qiang..."

Upon hearing the name, Ning Yu's pupils contracted sharply, and a chill ran from the soles of his feet to the top of his head. He abruptly turned to look at Zhang Qiang, only to see the man with his head down, his eyes darting around, seemingly deliberately avoiding his gaze.

"Zhang Qiang, you'd better give me a reasonable explanation." Ning Yu approached Zhang Qiang step by step, his tone as cold as if it came from the deepest hell.

Zhang Qiang looked up, forcing a flustered smile: "Brother Ning, what... what do you mean? I... I don't understand what you're saying..."

Ning Yu remained silent, staring intently at him with eyes as sharp as a hawk's. He knew the truth was about to be revealed… Ning Yu ignored Zhang Qiang's clumsy explanations. He walked straight to the table, picked up a document—a record of recent resource allocations. He turned to a page and pointed to a signature: "This signature, you signed it yourself, didn't you?"

Zhang Qiang's face stiffened. This document contained evidence of his unauthorized transfer of large quantities of grain, but he quickly regained his composure and said casually, "I signed it, so what? I was just following orders..."
