Chapter 59 Unknown Dangers, Undercurrents

Ning Yu's heart skipped a beat, a strange feeling welling up inside him. He felt as if something was awakening within his body...

"What...what is this feeling?" he muttered to himself, his gaze fixed on the test tube in his hand, his eyes filled with shock and confusion. In the base, an atmosphere of unease spread like a venomous snake. Ning Yu's expression was grave; he knew he had to find out the truth as soon as possible. While calming the members down, he locked himself in the laboratory, trying to find a breakthrough from the scattered incidents.

"Boss, have some water." Zhao Hu pushed open the door and came in, his face full of concern. "You haven't slept for three days and three nights."

Ning Yu rubbed his tired eyes, took the water glass, and drank it all in one gulp. "I'm fine, it's just that these events are getting stranger and stranger, and I feel like we've overlooked something."

He pointed to a report on the table, a record of the recent energy anomaly in the southern district. "You see, each time an energy fluctuation occurs, it's accompanied by a peculiar frequency, this frequency..."

Ning Yu suddenly stopped. He felt dizzy, and the water glass in his hand slipped and fell to the ground with a crisp shattering sound.

"Boss! What's wrong?" Zhao Hu hurriedly helped him up.

Ning Yu was pale and breathing rapidly. He felt as if an uncontrollable force was surging within his body, and his superpowers became extremely unstable, sometimes strong and sometimes weak, like a wild horse that had broken free of its reins.

"I'm fine..." Ning Yu took a deep breath, trying to calm the surging energy in his body. "I'm probably just too tired. I'll rest for a bit."

Zhao Hu looked at him with concern, "Boss, you must take care of yourself. The base still needs you."

Ning Yu nodded, indicating that he could rest assured. After Zhao Hu left, he immediately sat down cross-legged, trying to control the restless energy within his body. He closed his eyes and immersed his consciousness into his mental world, only to find that his once calm mental ocean was now turbulent. In the center of this raging ocean, a black vortex seemed to be slowly forming, emanating a chilling aura.

"What on earth is going on..." Ning Yu was filled with unease; he had never encountered such a situation before.

Time ticked by, and Ning Yu's forehead was covered in sweat as he struggled to control his supernatural power and prevent it from spiraling out of control. Just then, a fragment flashed through his mind—a pattern he had seen while studying an ancient document, a complex geometric shape. At the time, he hadn't paid much attention to it, only noticing its familiarity. Now, however, he realized that the pattern was remarkably similar to the black vortex he had seen in his spiritual world.

Ning Yu suppressed his discomfort and sifted through his memories, finally finding the source of the pattern. It was a book about prehistoric civilizations, recording many mysterious legends and unsolved mysteries. The book mentioned that before the birth of human civilization, a highly advanced civilization existed on Earth, possessing powerful technology and even the ability to manipulate space and time. However, this civilization was ultimately destroyed by an unknown catastrophe, leaving only ruins and mysterious relics.

The energy core of that prehistoric civilization described in the book has the exact same pattern as the black vortex that Ning Yu saw in his spiritual world!

Could it be that... those mysterious events are related to a prehistoric civilization? And what is that unknown energy trying to awaken?

A terrifying thought flashed through Ning Yu's mind. He realized that he might have touched upon a forbidden realm, an existence even more terrifying than the post-nuclear war world...

“I have to go and see…” A resolute look flashed in Ning Yu’s eyes. He forced his weak body to stand up, grabbed his coat, and left the base resolutely, ignoring the fact that his superpower was still unstable.

He was going to the place the pattern pointed to, to find the truth, even if it meant facing an abyss...

"Squeak—"

The base gates slowly opened, and Ning Yu's figure disappeared into the thick night, leaving only one sentence echoing in the wind:

"Have Zhao Hu... lead the brothers and get ready..."
