Night fell, and in the desolate, ruined city, only the cold wind howled, stirring up dust and tattered plastic bags. Ning Yu's figure disappeared into the darkness, only the heavy sound of his footsteps echoing in the empty streets.
He gripped the compass tightly in his hand, the needle spinning wildly as if it had lost its way. The compass was made according to the method recorded in that ancient book, and if the record was correct, it should guide him to the location of the energy core of the prehistoric civilization.
"It seems I've entered a special force field..." Ning Yu muttered to himself, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead. He could feel a strange energy fluctuation permeating the surrounding air, constantly interfering with his senses.
After walking for about half an hour, a thick gray fog appeared ahead, like a huge wall blocking the middle of the road. The fog emitted an eerie purple light, which was chilling.
"As expected..." Ning Yu took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the surging energy within his body. He knew that rashly using his unstable superpower would only make the situation worse.
He tried to navigate around the fog, but after walking for a long time, he found himself going in circles, as if trapped in a giant maze.
"It seems I have no choice but to force my way through..." Ning Yu gritted his teeth, mobilized the last bit of his supernatural power, condensed a ball of blazing flame in his hands, and hurled it into the mist!
"boom!"
Flames exploded in the mist, creating a small, temporary vacuum. However, instead of the expected dissipation of the mist, it triggered a series of energy explosions!
Ning Yu groaned as the shockwave from the explosion forced him back several steps. A surge of blood rushed through his chest, and a trickle of blood seeped from the corner of his mouth.
"Damn it..." Ning Yu cursed under his breath. He knew he had been too careless. Now that his superpowers were being overused, his physical condition was getting worse.
He leaned against the wall, staggering deeper into the mist, vaguely hearing strange sounds, like the low growl of a wild beast, or the cry of some unknown creature...
Suddenly, something cold and damp wrapped around his ankle. Before Ning Yu could react, he was violently dragged backward by a tremendous force!
"What is that?!" Ning Yu roared, his body instinctively trying to unleash his superpowers to break free, but he found that the energy flow within his body was unusually sluggish, as if it were being suppressed by some invisible force.
The dragging force grew stronger and stronger, almost pulling him into the depths of the mist! Ning Yu's mind raced, and he drew his tactical dagger from his waist, slashing fiercely at the thing that was wrapped around his ankle!
"laugh--"
Where the blade sliced through, instead of the expected blood and flesh flying everywhere, it seemed to have struck an extremely viscous liquid. The thing let out a chilling hiss and then turned into a cloud of black mist and dissipated.
Before Ning Yu could even catch his breath, the surrounding mist suddenly began to churn violently, and tentacles formed from dark energy emerged from the mist, attacking him like ghosts! These tentacles were extremely fast, accompanied by a sharp whooshing sound. Ning Yu couldn't dodge in time and was struck hard in the chest by one of the tentacles, his body flying backward and crashing heavily to the ground.
"Cough! Cough cough..."
Ning Yu struggled to get up from the ground, feeling a sharp pain in his chest and difficulty breathing. He looked down and saw a charred handprint on his once black combat uniform, and his skin burned with pain.
Before he could think any further, more tentacles surrounded him from all directions. Ning Yu gritted his teeth, enduring the pain in his body, and tried to use his superpowers to fight back.
However, he was horrified to find that his body felt as heavy as if it were filled with lead, his movements became extremely slow, and the energy in his body was suppressed by an invisible force, making it almost impossible to mobilize any energy!
"Damn it! What kind of place is this...?"
Ning Yu cursed inwardly, knowing he couldn't just sit and wait to die. He endured the oppression in his body and staggered as he ran deeper into the mist, trying to escape the attacks of these strange tentacles.
However, the fog seemed to have a life of its own, constantly shifting its direction and trapping him within it. Ning Yu felt like prey caught in a spider's web, each step bringing him closer to danger.
Suddenly, his footing gave way, and he lost his balance and plummeted downwards!
"not good!"
Alarm bells rang in Ning Yu's mind, but it was too late to react...
"thump--"
Accompanied by a pungent stench, Ning Yu crashed heavily into a pool of cold, viscous liquid. He tried to struggle to his feet, but discovered that the liquid was extremely corrosive; his clothes and skin were being rapidly corroded, and intense pain instantly spread throughout his body!
"ah--"
Ning Yu groaned in pain, knowing he had to leave as soon as possible. He endured the excruciating pain, summoning the last vestiges of his strength… “Ah—!” The corrosive pain, like a bone-deep infection, spread rapidly throughout his body. Ning Yu gritted his teeth, suppressing any further sound. He knew all too well that in this eerie place, any noise could attract unknown dangers.
He struggled to swing his arms, trying to grab onto something, but the cold, slippery touch plunged him deeper into despair. His clothes were reduced to shreds, and his skin was badly ulcerated, but the will to live in his eyes grew ever stronger.
Finally, he touched the hard soil! Ning Yu no longer hesitated, mobilized the last bit of strength in his body, and with a powerful kick, he leaped out of the stinking mud like an arrow!
"Cough cough..." He lay on the ground, panting heavily, the corrosive pain making his vision blur. But he dared not linger, forcing himself to his feet and staggering towards his target.
