"Completely deserted?!" Ning Yu slammed his fist on the table, his brow furrowed. The soldier sent to scout the "Scorpion" base three days ago was pale and terrified, his words tumbling out incoherently. "Yes, yes... when we arrived at the 'Scorpion' base, we found it completely silent, not a soul in sight..."
For the past few days, Ning Yu had been pondering the reason for "Scorpion's" sudden disappearance. His intuition told him that this matter was far from simple, and that a larger conspiracy must be hidden behind it. The system's analysis of "Motive: Unknown" weighed heavily on his heart like a boulder.
"Could it be that 'Black Serpent' and 'Blood Wolf' joined forces to deal with 'Poisonous Scorpion', and then prepared to concentrate their forces to deal with us?" Ning Yu paced back and forth in the operations room, constantly analyzing various possibilities in his mind.
Just then, a sharp alarm pierced the sky, its shrill sound echoing throughout the entire base.
"Reporting to the leader! We have detected an emergency distress signal on the edge of our territory!" The communications officer's voice was tinged with panic.
"Bring them in!"
A young, terrified face appeared on the screen. He gasped for breath, stammering, "Help...we're...we're under attack by 'Blood Wolves'...Requesting backup...coordinates..."
Before he could finish speaking, the signal abruptly stopped, leaving only static on the screen.
“Chief, this location is far from us, and…” A trusted aide looked troubled and hesitated.
Ning Yu understood what he meant. The distress signal was too suspicious and was likely a trap set by the enemy. However, looking at the face pleading for help on the screen, he couldn't just ignore it.
"Prepare your squad, follow me!" Ning Yu decisively ordered, his eyes gleaming with determination. "Remember, stay alert. This time..."
"Chief, could this be a trap?" a trusted aide couldn't help but ask. "'Blood Wolves' are cunning and treacherous; we must be on guard!"
Another team member chimed in, "Yes, leader, that's the edge of our territory, very close to the 'Blood Wolves' lair. What if..."
Ning Yu understood their concerns, but he couldn't stand by and watch his compatriots suffer outside. "I know this might be a trap, but," Ning Yu said firmly, looking around at everyone, "we can't give up any hope, any life, just because we're afraid! I will take responsibility for this operation. Let's go!"
The team quickly assembled, and ten armed off-road vehicles sped out of the base like black lightning, heading towards the location where the signal had been sent. Dust billowed across the desolate highway, foreshadowing the approaching storm.
Two hours later, they arrived at their destination. However, the sight before them made everyone's hearts sink.
There was no one there.
There were no signs of battle, no vehicles calling for help, not even a trace of blood; only the howling wind echoed through the empty wilderness.
"We've been tricked!" Ning Yu thought to himself, and immediately ordered, "All personnel, prepare for retreat!"
However, it was too late.
"Boom!" A deafening explosion came from all directions, and countless flames shot into the sky, illuminating the night sky as if it were daytime. Before Ning Yu and the others could react, a dense hail of bullets rained down upon them.
"Enemy attack! It's 'Blood Wolves'!"
"Take cover! Take cover now!"
The once desolate wilderness instantly transformed into a battlefield of carnage, with screams, gunfire, and explosions mingling together to create a symphony of death. Ning Yu led his team, dodging attacks and searching for opportunities to counterattack, but the enemy was numerous and well-equipped, and they quickly found themselves in a fierce battle.
"Hahaha, Ning Yu, you've finally met your match!" A mocking voice came from afar, and a tall figure slowly walked out. He was dressed in a black combat uniform, and a ferocious smile appeared on his face. "I've been waiting for this day for a long time!"
Ning Yu recognized the newcomer; he was the number two figure in "Blood Wolf," a cold-blooded killer nicknamed "Jackal," known for his cruelty and bloodlust.
"You jackal, how dare you set a trap to ambush me?" Ning Yu was furious, but he quickly calmed down. "What is your purpose?"
"My goal?" The jackal laughed loudly, "Kill you, and then you'll have everything!"
The words had barely left his lips when the jackal abruptly raised his right hand, and a signal flare shot into the air, exploding in a cloud of crimson smoke against the night sky. At the same time, the sounds of even more rapid footsteps and the roar of machinery filled the air, as if an army from hell was closing in on them…
"Chief, we're surrounded! Their reinforcements have arrived!" a team member cried out in terror, his voice filled with despair...
The sky was ablaze with flames, half of it glowing crimson, and deafening explosions echoed everywhere, turning the desolate landscape into a scene of utter carnage. Ning Yu's squad was completely surrounded by the "Blood Wolves'" reinforcements, a dense hail of bullets raining down, creating an inescapable net of death.
"Captain, we're surrounded! Their firepower is too intense!" A young team member shouted hoarsely from behind a dilapidated bunker, his face filled with terror and despair.
Before he could finish speaking, a bullet mercilessly pierced his chest, and his young life ended instantly.
"Ah Mao!" His comrade beside him roared in grief and indignation, but he was powerless to help.
The enemy was well-equipped and highly trained, clearly having come prepared. Although Ning Yu's squad fought bravely, they gradually began to falter under such a fierce offensive, with casualties steadily increasing.
"Chief, this won't do! We must break through!" Wang Qiang, his trusted confidant, shouted anxiously as a bullet grazed his helmet, leaving a deep scratch.
