Chapter 74 Conflict Arises Again, Danger Looms Once More

When Ning Yu and Mu Xue arrived at the command center, the huge monitoring screen was replaying the scene of the incident. Several team members were on routine patrol when they were suddenly struck by a beam of bright light and instantly lost consciousness. Then, several dark figures flashed by and dragged the unconscious team members into the nearby ruins; the whole process took only a few seconds.

"Send a search team immediately! Find them at all costs!" Ning Yu's face was ashen, his fists clenched so tightly that his knuckles turned white.

“Wait a minute,” Mu Xue calmly analyzed, “the other party dared to make a move on our territory, which clearly means they came prepared. Taking rash action will only alert them.”

Ning Yu took a deep breath, trying to suppress his anger. He knew Mu Xue was right. He forced himself to calm down and said in a deep voice, "Pass the word down: everyone be on high alert and strengthen defenses. Also, send a few clever people to investigate the other party's background."

Soon, several experienced scouts were dispatched. Disguised as scavengers, they cautiously approached the scene of the incident.

Time ticked by, and Ning Yu paced anxiously back and forth in the command center, his unease growing stronger. He knew that anyone who dared to provoke them was no pushover, and this incident was likely just the calm before the storm.

Finally, after an anxious wait, a scout quietly slipped back. He was covered in sweat and pale, as if he had just escaped a life-or-death situation.

"How is it? What did you find?" Ning Yu asked hurriedly.

The scout took a deep breath and said in a grave tone, "The other side... the other side..."

"What happened to them? Tell me quickly!" Ning Yu's heart tightened, and an ominous premonition surged into his mind.

The scout swallowed hard, his voice trembling as he said, "The other side...they..." He suddenly stopped, his eyes widening as if he had seen something terrifying, his lips trembling but unable to speak.

"Speak!" Ning Yu grabbed his shoulder and shouted sternly.

The scout seemed to wake up suddenly, and said in a trembling voice, "They...they have weapons that can glow..." "Weapons that can glow?!" Ning Yu exclaimed, countless thoughts flashing through his mind in an instant.

Mu Xue, who was standing to the side, also changed her expression slightly. She grabbed the scout's arm and asked urgently, "What kind of weapon? Tell me in detail!"

The scout described it with trembling hands: "It was a weapon I'd never seen before, like...like a metal rod, but the tip could shoot out a bright light. Our men were just hit by it, and then..." He closed his eyes in fear, unable to recall the scene.

Ning Yu and Mu Xue exchanged a glance, both seeing the gravity in each other's eyes. This information was too shocking, and an unprecedented sense of crisis enveloped their hearts.

“And,” the scout said, his voice trembling even more as if he had remembered something, “they…they have a lot of people, at least several hundred, and each one looks well-trained and well-equipped…”

Several hundred people! This number struck Ning Yu like a heavy hammer. He had painstakingly built a team that, at most, numbered only a little over a hundred.

"It seems we've encountered an unprecedentedly formidable enemy this time." Ning Yu took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. He understood that it was especially important not to lose his composure in situations like this.

He quickly issued a series of orders: "Pass down the order, everyone to enter a state of first-level combat readiness! In addition, mobilize all heavy weapons to the front line and make sure you hold the line!"

The order was quickly carried out, and the entire base was immediately gripped by tension. However, despite Ning Yu's best efforts to remain calm, fear still spread among the crowd.

"What do we do? They have hundreds of people, and those terrible weapons..."

"Can we really hold out?"

"How about... we surrender..."

Hearing the murmurs around him, Ning Yu's heart sank. He knew that fear was like a plague; once it spread, the consequences would be unimaginable.

He suddenly drew his long sword from his waist, raised it high, and his booming voice echoed throughout the base: "I know everyone is scared, but we have nowhere to retreat! Think of the hardships we have endured, think of the family and friends we have lost, are we really going to hand over the home we have worked so hard to build?!"

He surveyed the crowd, his gaze piercing: "We are not lambs to the slaughter, we are warriors fighting for survival in this apocalypse! We fear no enemy, even if they possess powerful weapons, we will fight to the very end!"

Ning Yu's words were like a shot of adrenaline, injecting strength into everyone's hearts. Yes, they had already lost too much; they absolutely could not lose their homeland!

However, just then, a piercing roar suddenly came from the distant sky, shattering the brief peace...

The ear-piercing roar grew closer, and several dazzling beams of light streaked across the sky, striking the outer defensive fortifications of the base. Explosions and screams mingled instantly, and the once-sturdy fortifications became as fragile as paper under the beams' attack, instantly tearing open shocking cracks.

"Damn it! It's those glowing weapons!" a soldier shouted in terror, desperately trying to dodge the deadly attack, but he was still struck by a beam of light and instantly lost his voice.

"Hold on! Everyone hold on! Don't panic!" Ning Yu roared, directing the resistance. The heavy weapons in the base also began to retaliate, with artillery fire roaring and bullets flying everywhere. However, their attacks seemed so powerless against the enemy's powerful beam weapons.

Despite the fierce attacks, Ning Yu kept his eyes fixed on the enemies wielding beam weapons. He noticed that each time an attack was fired, those weapons needed a short recharge period, and this was precisely their opportunity to counterattack!
