Chapter 78 Exploring the Path Amidst Perils and Hidden Dangers

The shadowy figure moved with astonishing speed, arriving before the group in the blink of an eye. Amidst the rising dust, a massive, ferocious-looking mutated bear appeared before them. Its body was covered in thick scales, emanating a nauseating stench, and its blood-red eyes were fixed on Ning Yu and the others, filled with bloodlust.

"Oh no, it's a level three mutated giant bear!" someone in the group exclaimed.

Level 3 mutated creatures are considered top predators in a post-nuclear war world, and their strength is far beyond that of ordinary mutated creatures.

"Prepare for battle!" Ning Yu shouted, and the Tang sword in his hand suddenly burst forth with a dazzling golden light. The other team members also drew their weapons, tense and on guard.

"Roar—!" The mutated giant bear roared and pounced on Ning Yu. Its huge paws carried an overwhelming force, as if it wanted to smash Ning Yu into mincemeat.

Ning Yu dodged the giant bear's attack with a swift movement. The Tang sword in his hand transformed into a golden lightning bolt, slashing fiercely at the giant bear's body.

"Clang!" A piercing metallic clang rang out, but the Tang sword only left a shallow white mark on the giant bear's scales, unable to break through its defenses at all!

"Such strong defense!" Ning Yu was shocked. It seemed that this mutated giant bear was even stronger than he had imagined.

"I'll help you!" Mu Xuejiao shouted, her figure flashing behind the giant bear like a ghost. The dagger in her hand turned into streaks of cold light, stabbing towards the giant bear's vital points.

However, the giant bear had thick hide and tough flesh, and although Mu Xue's attacks were fierce, they could not cause fatal damage to it.

"Damn it, this radiation is also suppressing my superpowers!" Ning Yu tried to mobilize his superpowers, but found that the surrounding radiation was like a huge cage, firmly imprisoning him and making it impossible for him to exert his full strength.

"We can't linger in battle, let's retreat!" Ning Yu made a decisive decision and ordered a retreat.

The group fought and retreated, struggling to withstand the attacks of the mutated giant bear.

"This way!" Ning Yu led the group deeper into the radiation zone. He knew that staying to fight the giant bear would only result in pointless sacrifices.

The mutated giant bear seemed to have sensed their intentions, roaring repeatedly, but it was still unable to catch up with their speed.

The group ran frantically and finally crossed the heavily radioactive area.

"Huff...huff..." Everyone collapsed to the ground, panting heavily, their faces etched with exhaustion.

"Thank goodness, we escaped..." one of the team members said weakly.

“No…” Ning Yu shook his head gravely. He looked around and said in a deep voice, “We’re not out of danger yet…” His gaze fell on a team member not far away. A deep wound was visible on the man’s leg, blood gushing out and staining the ground red… “Damn it!” Ning Yu cursed under his breath and quickly went to check on the wounded man. The radiation-eroded wound was horrifying; the white bone was faintly visible amidst the blood and gore.

"Captain, am I going to die...?" The injured team member was pale and barely breathing.

"Don't talk nonsense! You'll be fine." Ning Yu suppressed her anxiety, tore off a piece of her clothing to bandage him, and said to Mu Xue, "Quick, get the first aid kit!"

Mu Xue frantically rummaged through her backpack, but her expression grew increasingly grim. "This is bad, A-Yu, we're running low on medicine and food. We only have enough for two more days..."

Ning Yu frowned upon hearing this. The original plan was to traverse this area in three days, but now it seemed plans were not going to keep up with changes.

"Don't make a fuss yet, I'll figure something out," Ning Yu whispered, then turned to the others and said, "Let's rest as much as we can and try to get out of this desert before nightfall!"

Although exhausted, the team members mustered their spirits and helped each other continue forward. However, the presence of the injured team members undoubtedly slowed down the entire team's progress.

Time ticked by, and darkness gradually fell. Gazing at the boundless desert in the distance, the team members felt an increasing sense of unease.

"Captain, is there any way we can get out of here?" a team member couldn't help but ask, his voice trembling slightly.

"Don't worry, everything will be alright," Ning Yu reassured him, feigning composure. However, his heart was filled with anxiety. The shortage of food and water, the injuries of his teammates, and the perilous desert—each of these factors weighed heavily on him, making it hard to breathe.

Just then, a dark cloud suddenly appeared in the distant sky, accompanied by a series of low rumbling sounds, and quickly swept towards their direction.

"Oh no, it's a sandstorm!" the experienced team member exclaimed.

Before anyone could react, a sudden gust of wind arose, and flying sand and stones instantly engulfed them. The sandstorm carried sharp sand and stones, like countless tiny blades, mercilessly scraping their bodies, causing a burning pain.

"Ah!" The injured team member screamed as he was knocked to the ground by the sudden sandstorm.

"Quickly, protect yourselves!" Ning Yu roared, but his voice was quickly drowned out by the raging sandstorm.

"Cough cough cough..." Everyone was choked and could barely breathe. They could only desperately cover their mouths and noses with their hands and try to maintain their balance.

"This can't go on, we have to find somewhere to hide!" Ning Yu shouted as he looked around, trying to find shelter from the sandstorm.

"Captain, look over there!" Mu Xue shouted, pointing to a huge rock not far away.
