Ning Yu's heart sank, and he shouted in a low voice, "Watch out! There's a landmine!"
Upon hearing this, the team members immediately stopped, their faces filled with terror. They were all seasoned veterans, well aware of the horrors of landmines. In the post-apocalyptic wasteland, this simple weapon remained a deadly tool for reaping lives.
"Don't panic, I'll think of something." Ning Yu said, closing his eyes and concentrating. A pale blue light appeared on his body, spreading out like ripples on water. This was his special ability—perception, which allowed him to detect energy fluctuations in the surrounding environment, including the energy devices inside landmines.
As his perception range expanded, beads of sweat gradually appeared on Ning Yu's forehead. The density and ingenuity of the landmines in this area far exceeded his expectations. The enemy had clearly come prepared, deliberately laying this minefield to hinder their operations.
"How are you?" Mu Xue walked to Ning Yu's side and asked in a low voice, her tone tinged with worry. She knew that Ning Yu's superpower consumed a lot of energy, and prolonged use would put a strain on his body.
Ning Yu didn't speak, only shook his head, his face turning pale. He had already scanned an area of a hundred meters in radius, but still hadn't found a safe passage. These landmines were like an invisible net of death, trapping them firmly in this place.
"Chief, should we take another route?" one of the team members couldn't help but say. "Your health is more important!"
The other team members nodded in agreement. They would rather risk being discovered by the enemy than see Ning Yu overexert himself for their sake.
Ning Yu took a deep breath, enduring the throbbing pain in his mind, and expanded his perception once more. He knew time was of the essence; they had to break through as soon as possible, otherwise, once the "Sky Curtain" forces arrived, they would truly be trapped.
Suddenly, Ning Yu had a thought. He sensed a narrow passage not far ahead, with a relatively low density of landmines. But this passage was extremely well hidden, and a slight misstep could lead to a deadly trap.
"Follow me!" Ning Yu called out in a low voice, leading the way towards the passage. He walked cautiously with each step, using his senses to detect the path ahead and guide the team members behind him.
However, just as they were about to cross the minefield, an accident occurred...
"Watch out!" A member walking in the middle of the group suddenly exclaimed in alarm, his expression changing drastically.
But it was too late...
A deafening explosion ripped through the sky, flames shot skyward, thick smoke billowed, and debris flew everywhere. The team member in the middle didn't even have time to scream before being blasted into the air and crashing heavily several meters away, his fate unknown.
"Get down!" Ning Yu roared, his eyes bloodshot. Pale blue light surged wildly around him, instantly forming a semi-circular energy barrier that blocked the shockwave and flying debris from the explosion.
However, the enormous impact of the explosion still knocked several team members to the ground, one of whom was cut on the arm by a sharp piece of shrapnel, his sleeve stained with blood.
"Cough cough..." Ning Yu coughed violently a few times, his face as pale as paper. He had overused his supernatural abilities to protect his teammates, and was now completely exhausted.
"Chief, are you alright?" Mu Xue rushed anxiously to Ning Yu's side and supported his swaying body.
Ning Yu waved his hand to indicate that he was alright, then forced himself to stand up, his gaze sweeping coldly over his surroundings. He knew that now was not the time for grief and self-blame; they had to leave as soon as possible, otherwise, once the reinforcements from "Sky Curtain" arrived, they would truly be trapped.
"Let's go!" Ning Yu shouted in a low voice, leading the way as they rushed towards the outer edge of the minefield.
However, before they could run very far, a huge army suddenly appeared in front of them. It was a dark mass of at least a hundred people, all of them fully armed and exuding a murderous aura.
"Oh no, it's the 'Sky Curtain' forces! We're surrounded!" a team member exclaimed, a look of despair on his face.
"What are we afraid of! Let's fight them!" another team member said through gritted teeth, raising his weapon and preparing for a final, desperate struggle.
However, Ning Yu did not act rashly. He narrowed his eyes, carefully observing the "Sky Curtain" force ahead, his brows furrowing slightly. For some reason, he felt that something was amiss, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
"Chief, what should we do? Should we charge out now?" Mu Xue asked in a low voice, her tone tinged with anxiety.
Ning Yu didn't answer, but stared intently at the "Sky Curtain" unit ahead, his mind racing. Suddenly, a thought struck him, and a cold smile crept onto his lips.
“No, we won’t rush out…” Ning Yu said, turning to look at his teammates behind him, a wise glint in his eyes, “because…”
“Because…they’re not ‘Sky Curtain’ troops at all!” Ning Yu said, emphasizing each word with a hint of sarcasm.
"What?!" Upon hearing this, the team members were all shocked and turned to look at the "Sky Curtain" unit in front of them, their eyes filled with doubt and confusion.
"Chief, what do you mean by that? If they're not 'Sky Curtain' troops, then who are they?" one of the team members couldn't help but ask.
"Heh, if I'm not mistaken, they should be from 'Earthfire'." Ning Yu sneered and slowly said, "Take a close look at their weapons and equipment. Although they are very similar to 'Sky Curtain's' standard equipment, there are still some subtle differences, such as..."
