Chapter 247 Caught in a pincer movement, facing imminent doom

Dust billowed beneath the boulder. Ning Yu and Mu Xue stood back to back, pressed tightly together, almost overwhelmed by the stench of the wolves. Their grey-green eyes gleamed greedily in the dim light, and low growls rose and fell like the relentless beat of a death knell, each thud striking their hearts. Behind them, the heavy footsteps of the mutated pangolin grew ever closer, the ground trembling slightly, as if death itself were slowly approaching.

"Charge!" Ning Yu roared, breaking the suffocating silence. The steel pipe in his hand, salvaged from the rubble and meticulously honed, was now incredibly sharp. His eyes were fierce, like a trapped beast, ready to unleash astonishing power at any moment.

He charged towards the weakest link in the wolf pack, the steel pipe whistling through the air as it slammed into a smaller gray wolf. The wolf couldn't dodge in time and was struck squarely in the waist, letting out a piercing howl before collapsing to the ground, convulsing.

The sight of blood further fueled the wolves' ferocity. Without hesitation, they opened their gaping maws, revealing sharp fangs, and pounced on Ning Yu. Ning Yu moved nimbly through the pack, his steel pipe flashing in his hands, each swing carrying a sharp killing intent. He struck each approaching wolf with precision, each blow aimed to be fatal.

"Left!" Mu Xue's voice stood out clearly amidst the cacophony of wolf howls.

Without hesitation, Ning Yu sidestepped to the left, dodging a gray wolf that pounced from the side. The wolf missed its target and fell heavily to the ground. Before it could get up, Ning Yu's steel pipe slammed down on its head, ending its life.

Mu Xue was not to be outdone. Although her wooden spear was not as sharp as Ning Yu's steel pipe, it moved with the agility and nimbleness of a snake in her hands. She relentlessly thrust at the approaching wolves, each time hitting her target precisely.

However, the wolves were simply too numerous. They had barely driven off a few when more wolves swarmed in, seemingly endless. Ning Yu's strength was rapidly depleting, and his breathing was becoming rapid.

Just then, a deafening roar came from behind, and the mutated pangolin was closing in! Ning Yu glanced at the huge black shadow behind him, and his heart sank.

"Mu Xue, cover me!" Ning Yu shouted.

"What are you going to do?" Mu Xue asked anxiously while struggling to fend off the wolf pack's attacks.

Ning Yu didn't answer. A resolute glint flashed in his eyes, and he suddenly hurled the steel pipe in his hand... The pipe spun and sliced through the air with a whooshing sound, embedding itself precisely in the boulder. The boulder, already teetering on the brink of collapse, lost its balance upon impact with the pipe and toppled towards the mutated pangolin.

"boom!"

The boulder crashed to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust that buried the mutated pangolin's massive body. The earth trembled violently, and the wolf pack, terrified by the sudden turn of events, scattered in all directions, causing the previously tight encirclement to loosen slightly.

"Hurry!" Ning Yu seized the opportunity, grabbed Mu Xue's hand, and rushed out in the direction where the wolf pack was less dense.

They ran wildly, pursued relentlessly by the wolf pack, their mournful howls echoing behind them. Ning Yu felt his strength waning; his attack speed slowed, and the wound on his arm throbbed with pain. A large, muscular gray wolf seized the opportunity, leaping up and biting Ning Yu's left arm.

The intense pain made Ning Yu groan, but he forced himself not to cry out. He grabbed the gray wolf by the neck and slammed it to the ground. The gray wolf rolled several times on the ground, struggling to get up, but Ning Yu had already stomped on its head, and the sound of bones cracking could be clearly heard.

"Ning Yu!" Mu Xue cried out anxiously when she saw Ning Yu injured. She swung her wooden spear with all her might, driving back several approaching wolves, wanting to go and help Ning Yu.

"I'm fine!" Ning Yu said through gritted teeth. He drew his dagger, cut the strip of cloth wrapped around his arm, and quickly bandaged the wound. Blood soaked through the cloth, staining his sleeve red.

Although Ning Yu said he was fine, his face was frighteningly pale. Blood loss and exhaustion made him feel dizzy and lightheaded. He took a deep breath, trying to stay awake.

They continued running forward, relentlessly pursued by the wolf pack. The fallen boulder did not completely stop the mutated pangolin; a low roar rose from the dust, the ground trembled again, and the massive figure slowly emerged.

"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath. They were now attacked from both sides, caught in a dilemma.

The wolf pack's encirclement tightened, forcing Ning Yu and Mu Xue to the edge of a precipice. Behind them lay the heavy footsteps of mutated pangolins, and before them, a bottomless abyss. They had nowhere to escape.

Ning Yu shielded Mu Xue behind him, his eyes coldly fixed on the approaching pack of wolves. The dagger in his hand gleamed with a chilling light, as if he were ready to fight to the death at any moment.

“It seems… we have to jump.” Ning Yu’s voice was low and hoarse.

Mu Xue didn't speak, but simply held Ning Yu's hand tightly. She could feel the sweat on his palms and the trembling of his body.

Just then, a gray wolf suddenly pounced on Ning Yu...

The gray wolf's sharp teeth dug deeply into Ning Yu's left arm, causing him to groan in pain. Mu Xue's eyes widened in fury, a surge of anger rising within her. Ignoring everything else, she roared and thrust her wooden spear out like lightning, striking the gray wolf squarely in the abdomen. The wolf let out a piercing howl, convulsing as it collapsed to the ground, its blood staining the earth crimson.
