The cheers of the crowd surged like waves, one after another. Ning Yu stood at the center of the wave, yet his heart remained unusually calm. Justice had been served, the truth had been revealed, and the gloom that had weighed on his heart for so long had been swept away. He turned to look at Dr. Zhao and Brother Wu beside him, his gratitude overflowing.
"Ning Yu, you did a great job." Dr. Zhao patted him on the shoulder with satisfaction, his eyes full of praise.
"It's all thanks to you and Brother Wu," Ning Yu said sincerely. He knew that without their help, he might have already been swallowed by the darkness.
"Alright, let's not dwell on the past." Brother Wu laughed heartily. "The most important thing now is for us to unite and work together to rebuild our home!"
Cheers erupted again from the crowd, their faces beaming with hope. However, in this joyous moment, Dr. Zhao pulled Ning Yu aside, his expression turning serious.
“Ning Yu,” Dr. Zhao lowered his voice, “I have something very important to tell you. This matter is of great importance and could very well change the fate of all of us…”
Ning Yu's heart tightened; he realized that what Dr. Zhao was about to say was anything but simple.
“According to our latest research, this global nuclear war does not seem to be a coincidence.” Dr. Zhao paused, then continued, “We have found some clues pointing to a mysterious force that we have never encountered before, and this force may very well be the root cause of the war.”
Ning Yu's expression turned serious, and he pressed, "Where does this mysterious power come from? How should we deal with it?"
“We know very little about this force right now,” Dr. Zhao shook his head, “but I believe that once we find its source, we can uncover the truth behind this catastrophe, and even… find a way to save the world.”
“So I hope you can help me, Ning Yu.” Dr. Zhao’s eyes were full of expectation. “We need you to go to the area where the power source may exist to investigate.”
Ning Yu didn't hesitate at all; he knew it was his duty. "I'm willing to accept this mission."
Three days later, Ning Yu bid farewell to everyone and embarked on his journey to find the source of the mysterious power. He headed north, based on information provided by Dr. Zhao, as the source of the power was most likely located in the former Arctic ice cap region.
However, Ning Yu encountered unexpected difficulties right from the start of her journey. The once clear sky suddenly became overcast, with howling winds and torrential rain. Visibility plummeted, and the already rugged road became muddy and impassable.
"This damn weather..." Ning Yu cursed under his breath, forced to slow his pace. The terrible weather not only hampered his movements but also filled him with a vague unease. For some reason, he felt his supernatural perception was being interfered with, becoming sluggish...
"Could it be..." Ning Yu suddenly stopped, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, "...around here..." Ning Yu's brows furrowed tightly. He felt his senses being blocked by an invisible barrier, and the once clear world became blurry. He tried to concentrate and mobilize his supernatural abilities, but with little success.
"This feeling... is like being blocked by something..." Ning Yu murmured to himself. He looked around. The wind and rain were raging across the barren land, and the visibility was extremely low. Only the distant, shadowy mountains, like giant beasts lurking in the darkness, added to the oppressive atmosphere and unease.
Just as Ning Yu was preparing to find another route, Brother Wu's anxious voice suddenly came through the communicator: "Ning Yu, are you alright? We detected abnormal weather changes at your location. How are you doing now?"
Hearing Brother Wu's voice warmed Ning Yu's heart, but he quickly calmed down. He knew that this mission was extraordinary and that no one should be put in danger.
“I’m fine, Brother Wu,” Ning Yu tried to keep his tone calm. “It’s just a small problem, I’ll take care of it soon.”
"Are you really alright? Do you need me to bring some people to meet you?" Brother Wu clearly didn't believe Ning Yu's words, and his tone was full of worry.
“Really, it’s not necessary, Brother Wu. Trust me,” Ning Yu said firmly. “I can handle it, and…”
Ning Yu paused for a moment, then continued, "Moreover, Dr. Zhao said that this mission can only be completed by me alone."
He knew that although Brother Wu's superpowers were powerful, they were not suitable for operating in this environment, and if he followed, it would likely expose his target and cause unnecessary trouble.
There was a moment of silence on the other end of the communicator, then Brother Wu's helpless voice came through: "Alright, be careful. Contact us immediately if anything happens. We'll be waiting for you to come back from the base."
"Don't worry, I will." Ning Yu said, then turned off the communicator.
He looked up into the distance, his heart filled with confusion and unease. He didn't know what awaited him ahead, but he knew he had no way back. He took a deep breath, clenched his fists, and resolutely walked towards his goal.
A fierce wind howled, and torrential rain poured down, as if threatening to devour everything in the world. Ning Yu braved the gale, struggling forward with difficulty, each step incredibly difficult. His clothes were already soaked through and icy cold, but he was oblivious to it all. He had only one thought in his mind: to find the source of the power and uncover the truth.
Suddenly, his foot slipped, and he fell forward uncontrollably...
"ah!"
"Ah!" Ning Yu groaned, his body crashing heavily onto a jagged rock. The intense pain made his vision go black, and he almost fainted. He struggled to stand up, but found that a piercing pain shot through his left leg, rendering him unable to move.
