The figure at the warehouse entrance paused for only a moment before stepping inside. In the dim firelight, the newcomer's features gradually became clearer. He was tall but unusually thin, with high cheekbones and deep-set eyes that gleamed with a sinister light, like a hungry wolf poised to pounce.
Ning Yu slowly stood up, subtly placing the water bottle behind her back, her eyes warily fixed on the newcomer. The atmosphere in the warehouse instantly tensed; the air seemed to freeze, making it suffocating.
The newcomer was none other than Captain Chen, who had previously clashed with Ning Yu at the trading market. Behind him were several emaciated team members, each carrying various weapons, including rusty steel pipes and sharpened wooden sticks, who looked like men to be trifled with.
"Captain Chen, what brings you here so late?" Ning Yu broke the silence first, trying to remain calm and discern something from the other man's expression.
Captain Chen ignored Ning Yu's question and walked straight to the center of the warehouse. His gaze swept over the mutated dog corpses lying haphazardly on the ground, and finally landed on the water bucket behind Ning Yu, a flash of greed crossing his eyes.
He licked his chapped lips and said in a hoarse voice, "I heard that you have a good water supply here?"
Ning Yu's heart skipped a beat, knowing that the other party had come for the water source. He smiled calmly and said, "Captain Chen is joking. I don't have much water left here either, just enough for my own use."
Captain Chen sneered, clearly not believing Ning Yu's story. He took a step closer, his gaze piercing, "Ning Yu, I advise you to be sensible and hand over the water source. I might consider letting you join my team, otherwise..."
He deliberately dragged out the last syllable, not saying anything more, but the threat was unmistakable. Ning Yu gripped the water bottle hidden behind his back, his palms sweating. He knew a fierce battle was inevitable… Captain Chen's wolf-like eyes swept across the dimly lit warehouse, finally settling on the water bucket behind Ning Yu. His Adam's apple bobbed, he greedily licked his chapped lips, and said hoarsely, “Enough nonsense. This water source is ours now. If you know what's good for you, get out of here, or else…”
Before he could finish speaking, a teammate behind him impatiently shoved Ning Yu and said fiercely, "The captain is talking to you, can't you hear him? Get lost!"
Ning Yu stumbled from the push, his anger rising within him. He steadied himself, gripped the water bottle tightly, and said coldly, "This water source was something I worked hard to find. Why should I give it to you?"
"We outnumber you!" shouted one of Captain Chen's men, brandishing a steel pipe and closing in step by step. "If you know what's good for you, get lost and don't force us to take action!"
"Attack? Even if you outnumber me, I'll fight to the death!" Ning Yu knew that the water source was doomed to fail today, but he would not give up easily. He would make these people pay the price!
"If you won't listen to reason, you'll have to suffer the consequences!" Captain Chen's men swarmed forward, brandishing their weapons and smashing them at Ning Yu.
Chaos erupted inside the warehouse. Ning Yu nimbly dodged the attacks, using the water bottle in his hand as a weapon to repel the attackers time and again. However, one man can't fight four, and under the combined assault of several people, Ning Yu gradually lost ground.
With a muffled thud, Ning Yu was unable to dodge in time and was slammed hard into the back by a steel pipe. He groaned and staggered back a few steps, the water bottle in his hand slipping from his grasp and rolling to the side.
"Boss, this kid's done for, hurry up and get him!" Seeing this, Captain Chen's men became even more excited and rushed forward, shouting.
Ning Yu watched helplessly as the water source drew near, yet he was powerless to stop these scumbags from approaching. His heart was filled with despair and rage. He struggled to get up, but a foot stomped hard on his chest, the intense pain making it almost impossible for him to breathe.
"Kid, this is what happens when you go against us!" Captain Chen looked down at Ning Yu, his eyes filled with contempt and mockery.
He bent down to pick up the water bottle from the ground, when Ning Yu suddenly sprang up, grabbed his leg, opened her mouth, and bit down hard...
"Ah!" Captain Chen screamed in agony, looking down in disbelief at Ning Yu, who was biting his leg tightly, and roared, "You're asking for it!"
Enraged by the sudden attack, Captain Chen roared and swung his fist, slamming it hard into Ning Yu's back. The intense pain nearly made Ning Yu faint, but he still held onto Captain Chen's leg tightly, preventing him from getting any closer to the water source.
"Damn it, what are you all standing there for? Beat him! Beat him to death!" Captain Chen roared angrily. His men then reacted and began to swing their weapons at Ning Yu.
Ning Yu struggled desperately in a sea of sticks, feeling as if his bones were about to be shattered, but he never gave up, like a wild beast driven to the brink of despair, bursting forth with astonishing resilience.
"Boss, this kid is too difficult to deal with, how about..." One of his men leaned close to Captain Chen's ear and made a throat-slitting gesture.
A ruthless glint flashed in Captain Chen's eyes. He pulled a gleaming dagger from his waist and said viciously, "You won't listen to reason, so you'll have to drink the penalty cup. Since you want to die, then I'll grant your wish!"
He gripped the dagger in his other hand and was about to stab Ning Yu in the back. At the critical moment, Ning Yu suddenly released his grip, jerked his head back, and slammed it hard into Captain Chen's chin.
"Ah!" Captain Chen screamed in agony, dropping the dagger from his hand. He clutched his throbbing jaw, staring at Ning Yu in disbelief, his eyes filled with terror and rage.
