Crimson eyes flickered in the dim woods, dancing like will-o'-the-wisps, and the heavy breathing of the beasts echoed in their ears. They approached step by step, radiating a suffocating sense of oppression, like an invisible giant net trapping them, making it impossible for them to breathe.
"Don't give up, everyone! We still have a chance!" Mu Xue shouted, trying to encourage the team members around her, but all she got in response were a few weak gasps.
The long escape and battle had exhausted them; weariness and fear were etched on everyone's face. They gripped their weapons tightly, yet could not suppress their trembling. The scene before them was as despairing as if the end of the world had arrived.
The beasts seemed to sense their prey's fear, and the encirclement tightened. They growled and made chilling panting sounds, their green eyes gleaming with bloodlust.
Suddenly, a smaller beast couldn't contain itself and launched the first attack. It charged towards the crowd like an arrow released from a bow, its sharp claws slicing through the air with a cold light.
"Watch out!" Mu Xue shouted a warning, while brandishing her weapon. An ice blade shot out and struck the beast in the side.
However, the beast was thick-skinned and the ice blade only left a shallow wound on its body. It roared angrily and continued to charge towards the crowd.
"Bang!" One of the team members was unable to dodge in time and was knocked away by the beast's enormous impact, crashing heavily to the ground with a painful groan.
"Ali!" Mu Xue exclaimed, wanting to rush forward to help, but was forced back by the other beasts.
The injured team member struggled to stand up, but the movement aggravated his injuries, causing him to gasp in pain. He looked up at the menacing beasts surrounding him, his eyes filled with despair.
"It's over, everything is over..." he muttered to himself, his voice filled with despair.
"No, it's not over yet!" Mu Xue gritted her teeth, her eyes sweeping over the surrounding beasts as she quickly racked her brains for a solution.
She must find a way out, or everyone will die here!
In the chaos, Mu Xue's gaze inadvertently swept over the eyes of a ferocious beast. She suddenly realized that, compared to their hard scales and sharp claws, their eyes seemed to be one of their few weaknesses.
"Eyes! Attack their eyes!" Mu Xue shouted to her teammates, but before her words could even finish... before she could finish speaking, several more beasts launched an attack simultaneously, tearing the team's formation apart like black lightning. Mu Xue only saw a blur before her eyes, and her teammates were scattered by the beasts. In the chaos, she was swept backward by the crowd, but she held tightly to the unconscious Ning Yu.
"Ali!" Mu Xue cried out in despair as she saw her teammate, who had been knocked away, being targeted by a ferocious beast. She could only watch helplessly as the beast opened its blood-red maw and lunged at her teammate. At the critical moment, another figure flashed by, pulling the teammate to his feet and saving him from a fatal blow.
"Thank...thank you..." the team member said weakly, but then realized that the one who saved him was another team member who was usually quiet. He nodded without saying anything, but stared more warily at the ferocious beasts around him.
"roar--"
Mu Xue's ears went numb from the roar, and she realized that she and Ning Yu had been cornered. Three huge beasts surrounded them, and the stench made her want to vomit.
"Ning Yu, wake up, wake up!" Mu Xue shook Ning Yu, trying to wake him up, but Ning Yu remained unresponsive, his brows furrowed, as if trapped in an endless nightmare.
Despair washed over her like a tidal wave. Mu Xue bit her lip tightly, a tear welling up in her eye. Was this how it was going to end?
No! She was not willing to accept it!
Mu Xue took a deep breath, gently placed Ning Yu behind her, and shielded him with her body. Her cold gaze swept over the ferocious beast in front of her; she was ready to fight to the death.
"Come on! You beast!" Mu Xue roared, the ice blade in her hand flashing with a cold light, just like the resolute look in her eyes.
Enraged by her, the beasts roared deafeningly and pounced on her. Mu Xue nimbly dodged, her sharp claws slicing past her ears again and again, leaving bloody marks on her face.
"hiss--"
Mu Xue groaned as a beast viciously clawed at her arm, instantly staining her sleeve with blood. The intense pain made her vision blur for a moment. But she couldn't fall; Ning Yu was behind her, and she needed to protect him!
"Ah—" Mu Xue roared, mobilizing all her supernatural abilities to form an ice wall in front of her, temporarily blocking the beast's attack.
"Boom—"
The sound of the ice wall shattering exploded in her ears. Mu Xue was thrown back by the huge impact and crashed heavily to the ground, a trickle of blood spilling from the corner of her mouth.
"Cough cough..."
Mu Xue struggled to stand up, but found that her body had reached its limit and her vision was beginning to blur.
“Ning Yu…”
With her last ounce of strength, she glanced in Ning Yu's direction, and then... closed her eyes.
"No!—" "Mu Xue!" The team members, seeing Mu Xue in danger, were filled with rage and desperately tried to break through the encirclement of the beasts. But those ferocious animals were like impenetrable walls, keeping them firmly at bay. Despair and anger intertwined in their hearts, yet they were helpless.
Mu Xue felt her consciousness fading little by little, and the world before her eyes becoming blurry, but she still gripped the ice blade tightly in her hand, refusing to give up. She knew that she had no way out; only by fighting to the death could she have a glimmer of hope.
