Chapter 242 Dark clouds gather again, crisis looms ahead

The gloomy sky felt like a giant lead plate, pressing down on them and making it hard to breathe. The distant rumbling grew louder and louder, causing the ground to tremble slightly. Ning Yu helped Mu Xue sit up with difficulty; their wounds throbbed, and a wave of exhaustion washed over them.

"What is that thing..." Mu Xue's voice trembled slightly as she gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly, her eyes fixed on the dark shadow in the sky.

The dark shape drew closer, gradually revealing its outline. It wasn't a cloud, but a huge, strangely shaped flying machine. Completely black, its surface gleaming with a metallic sheen, it resembled a colossal steel beast, radiating a suffocating sense of oppression as it hurtled towards them.

The ground began to shake violently, and flying debris struck Ning Yu and Mu Xue's faces, causing a stinging pain. Ning Yu felt a powerful sense of oppression; he knew the newcomers meant trouble.

"We have to get out of here!" Ning Yu said through gritted teeth. He tried to stand up, but his legs felt as heavy as lead.

Mu Xue was also trying hard to stand up, but she was more seriously injured than Ning Yu, and her attempts all ended in failure. "I...I can't move..." she said weakly, her face full of pain.

Ning Yu took a deep breath; he knew he couldn't delay any longer. He endured the pain, helped Mu Xue up, and half-dragged, half-carried her towards the distant woods.

Every step Ning Yu took was incredibly difficult. His body had reached its limit, and each breath was accompanied by excruciating pain. But he knew he couldn't give up; he had to protect Mu Xue.

"Cough, cough..." Mu Xue coughed violently, a trickle of blood escaping from the corner of her mouth. "Put...put me down...you...go on your own..."

"Don't speak!" Ning Yu interrupted Mu Xue. "I won't abandon you!"

The roar grew closer, and the ground shook more violently. Ning Yu felt his heart was about to jump out of his chest; he knew they were running out of time.

He looked around, hoping to find a place to hide. But there was nothing there but bare rocks and broken trees.

Mu Xue struggled to get down from Ning Yu's arms. She leaned against a broken tree trunk, panting heavily. "Find...find some weapons..." she said weakly.

Ning Yu nodded and began searching his surroundings for anything he could use as a weapon. But he only found some broken branches, which seemed insignificant in the face of the impending danger.

The enormous aircraft was now almost upon them, its shadow completely enveloping Ning Yu and Mu Xue. Suddenly, Ning Yu felt the ground stop shaking, and the roar ceased. He looked up and saw the aircraft hovering above them, like a giant raptor looking down upon them.

A cold wind blew through the woods, rustling softly. Ning Yu gripped the branch in his hand tightly, watching his surroundings warily.

"What...what sound..." Mu Xue's voice trembled as she gripped Ning Yu's arm tightly.

Ning Yu didn't answer; he sensed a dangerous aura approaching. Suddenly, a pair of scarlet eyes lit up in the darkness… A chilling wind swirled sand and gravel, emitting a ghostly wail. Deep in the forest, pairs of scarlet eyes, like will-o'-the-wisps, flickered uncertainly in the darkness. Ning Yu's heart sank, a strong sense of unease washing over him.

Suddenly, a pack of wolf-like creatures sprang out of the woods and appeared before them. These wolves were a size larger than ordinary wolves, and their bodies reeked of a nauseating stench of decay. Their eyes gleamed with an eerie red light, like messengers from hell, and they emitted low growls that sent chills down their spines.

They slowly approached Ning Yu and Mu Xue, step by step, like the footsteps of death approaching, pounding on Ning Yu's taut nerves.

Ning Yu grabbed a broken tree branch, intending to intimidate the wolves. He waved the branch and shouted, "Get out of the way! Don't come any closer!"

However, the wolves seemed unfazed. They paused briefly, their crimson eyes gleaming with greed, before continuing their advance, their howls growing even more ferocious.

Mu Xue clung tightly to Ning Yu, her body trembling slightly. Her face was pale, her lips cracked, and she was so weak she could barely stand. Their strength hadn't recovered, and facing such a ferocious pack of wolves, they had no chance of victory.

"Ning Yu... what... what should we do?" Mu Xue's voice trembled, tinged with despair.

Ning Yu gritted his teeth; he knew he couldn't panic. He shielded Mu Xue behind him, gripping the branch in his hand even tighter.

"Don't be afraid, I will protect you." Ning Yu's voice was firm, but his heart was filled with a sense of powerlessness.

The wolf pack drew closer and closer, surrounding Ning Yu and Mu Xue in a tight encirclement that slowly tightened, like a giant net that had them firmly trapped.

A particularly large wolf, seemingly the leader of the pack, stood at the forefront of the encirclement and let out a deafening roar at Ning Yu. It suddenly lunged forward, like an arrow released from a bow, towards Ning Yu.

Ning Yu tried to defend himself with a tree branch, but it was like a mantis trying to stop a chariot. The wolf bit off the branch in one bite, and its sharp teeth followed up by biting Ning Yu's arm. The intense pain made Ning Yu groan involuntarily. Taking advantage of the situation, the wolf pounced on Ning Yu and knocked him to the ground, its foul stench hitting Ning Yu's face.

Seeing this, Mu Xue rushed forward without hesitation, desperately pulling at the wolf that was biting Ning Yu.

"Let him go! Let him go!" Mu Xue cried out, using all her strength to pull at the wolf.
