"Now!" Ning Yu suddenly opened his eyes, a sharp glint in them. He felt his strength rapidly recovering, as if a powerful energy was about to burst forth from his body. Without thinking about the source of this energy, he gripped the stone tightly in his hand, as if grasping at his last hope.
The strange bird's sharp claws, whipped by a powerful gust of wind, magnified in Ning Yu's pupils. The shadow of death loomed over him, yet Ning Yu felt no fear whatsoever; his eyes were fixed solely on the strange bird and its vulnerable parts—its eyes and beak.
"Roar—" The strange bird let out a deafening roar, and a foul stench assaulted the senses, making one want to vomit. Just as its claws were about to tear Ning Yu's body apart, he moved.
Ning Yu's body shot forward like an arrow, the stone in his hand aimed straight for the strange bird's beak. The sharp stone reflected a cold light in the sunlight, as if it were about to kill this enormous creature with a single blow.
The strange bird seemed to sense Ning Yu's movement. It lowered its head and tried to peck at Ning Yu with its sharp beak. Ning Yu's heart pounded, but he did not flinch. He concentrated all his strength on the stone in his hand and thrust it forward with all his might.
"Ning Yu!" came Mu Xue's heart-wrenching cry from afar. Trapped in the trap, she watched this scene with despair. The bottom of the trap was narrow and dark, filled with a putrid stench. Mu Xue suppressed her fear and despair, groping for the edge of the trap, hoping to find a chance to escape.
Suddenly, she touched a clump of loose soil, behind which seemed to be a small hole. This discovery rekindled her hope, and she dug hard into the soil, hoping to widen the hole.
"I must succeed..." Mu Xue prayed silently as she dug desperately. She didn't know where the hole led, or if she could even crawl out, but she had no other choice.
Time ticked by, and the life-or-death struggle between Ning Yu and the strange bird reached its climax. Ning Yu finally pierced the bird's beak with the stone in his hand; however, the bird's reaction surprised him… The bird seemed to sense Ning Yu's movement; it lowered its head, attempting to peck at Ning Yu with its sharp beak. Ning Yu's heart pounded, but he didn't flinch. He concentrated all his strength on the stone in his hand, thrusting it forward with all his might.
"Pfft—"
With a dull thud, the sharp point of the stone pierced the strange bird's mouth. The hard rock scraped against the bird's sharp teeth, making a teeth-grinding sound. The strange bird let out a painful howl, and foul-smelling blood gushed out, splattering Ning Yu's face.
"Success!" Ning Yu was overjoyed, but before he could even breathe a sigh of relief, the strange bird's enormous body thrashed wildly in excruciating pain, throwing him away. Ning Yu crashed heavily to the ground, feeling as if his internal organs had shifted, and a metallic taste rose in his throat.
The strange bird was enraged. It flapped its wings in agony and roared angrily. Blood gushed from its mouth, and several broken teeth fell to the ground mixed with blood and foam.
"Damn it!" Ning Yu cursed under his breath, struggling to stand up. He knew that although his attack had injured the strange bird, it wasn't fatal. And now, the enraged bird would only be more dangerous.
On the other side, Mu Xue had already begun trying to squeeze into the small hole. However, the hole was too narrow, and her body got stuck in the middle, unable to move forward or backward.
"Damn it!" Mu Xue gritted her teeth, sweat streaming down her forehead. She tried to adjust her posture, attempting to squeeze her body into the opening, but accidentally bumped into the spikes on the trap wall.
"ah!"
The sharp pain made Mu Xue cry out in pain. She felt warm liquid flowing down the wound, staining her clothes red.
"We can't give up..."
Mu Xue took a deep breath, enduring the pain, and continued trying to crawl into the hole. She didn't know where the hole led, or whether she could escape, but she had no other choice.
Ning Yu struggled to his feet, his gaze meeting the strange bird's scarlet eyes. He knew he had no way out.
"Come on!" Ning Yu wiped the blood off his face, gripped the stone in his hand, and prepared to face the monster bird's storm-like attacks.
The strange bird let out a deafening roar, its massive body soaring into the air once more, casting a shadow that blotted out the sky over Ning Yu. Its scarlet eyes stared intently at Ning Yu, as if to say, "You will pay the price for your foolish actions!"
Ning Yu took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. He gripped the stone in his hand tightly, adopting a defensive stance. He knew that the upcoming attacks would be even more ferocious than before, and a slight mistake could cost him his life.
A fierce wind howled past, carrying with it the piercing cries of a strange bird, as if to tear one's eardrums apart. Ning Yu's clothes fluttered in the wind as he stared intently at the strange bird, searching for its weakness.
On the other side, Mu Xue was still struggling to squeeze into the cave entrance. Her clothes were torn by sharp stones, and her arms and legs were covered in bloodstains, but she felt no pain. She had only one thought in her mind: to get out as soon as possible and help Ning Yu.
"Ning Yu, you must hold on!" Mu Xue prayed silently in her heart. She gritted her teeth and used all her strength to try to move her body forward even an inch.
Suddenly, she felt her body loosen; the place that had been holding her seemed to have widened. Mu Xue was overjoyed. Could it be that she was about to succeed?
"Come on, you'll be there soon!" Mu Xue cheered herself up. She took a deep breath and prepared to squeeze through the hole in one go.
