Shen Fu picked up the chicken leg and took a small bite, along with the scraps of paper on it.
It smells very good and tastes delicious.
This was the first bite of meat he had eaten after going hungry for so many days.
He took a few symbolic bites, then handed the chicken leg back to her, saying, "I'm full, I don't want any more."
"You don't want it anymore?" Ning Wan reluctantly took it, unwilling to throw it away: "But there's still so much meat left on it..."
"You eat it."
Hearing Shen Fu say that, Ning Wan continued to gnaw on the food without any hesitation.
After taking a bite, she held it to Shen Fu's lips again: "Brother, you should eat too."
The two of them took turns eating and finished the chicken leg together.
Ning Wan patted her belly, looking very satisfied with her meal.
"Brother, you know what? My mom's cooking is so delicious!" She rested her chin on her hands, gazing at the sky with dreamy eyes. "And Mom is so good to me. She always tells me she loves me so much!"
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, Shen Fu would definitely have been fooled by Ning Wan's naive words.
For the first time, he felt a pang of guilt.
I couldn't bear to expose her clumsy lies, nor could I bear to shatter the beautiful dream she had deliberately woven for herself.
He nodded gently and said softly, "I really envy you, having such a wonderful mother..."
Ning Wan chuckled a little sheepishly.
Then she asked, "Why is brother here? Doesn't brother go home? Wanwan doesn't even know brother's name yet."
Shen Fu chuckled: "You've asked so many questions at once, which one should I answer first?"
Do all kids like to talk a lot?
Shen Xinxing is always like this.
However, Shen Fu was not as patient with him as he was with Ning Wan.
He lowered his head, pondered for a moment, and said, "...I...I have no name."
"Then Wanwan, let's get one for your brother!"
Ning Wan got off the bench and took small steps, thinking seriously for a while: "Yesterday, the kindergarten teacher taught us a new word called 'perfect.' How about my brother is named Yuanyuan?"
Shen Fu was speechless with exasperation: "...This is bad."
This is not good at all.
"Then let's call her Aman?" Ning Wan grabbed Shen Fu's hand and shook it from side to side, pleading, "Please, brother, please, please."
Shen Fu couldn't refuse her, so he simply acquiesced.
Children are forgetful; once a name was chosen for Shen Fu, the two questions from before were forgotten.
Seeing that it was almost time for her to leave, Ning Wan patted her bottom and prepared to go home.
Before leaving, she asked, "Brother Aman, will you still be here tomorrow?"
His eyes still held a hint of anticipation and reluctance.
Looking at Ning Wan's wet eyes, Shen Fu softened and said, "I won't leave, I'll stay here."
Upon hearing this, Ning Wan was overjoyed.
She rushed forward and hugged him tightly: "Thank you, Brother Aman! Goodnight, goodbye!"
Then he ran away in a flash.
Watching Ning Wan's disappearing figure, Shen Fu couldn't help but find it amusing...
...
The girl did not come looking for him the next day.
Shen Fu guessed that Ning Wan must have gone to school.
While she was away, Shen Fu wandered around the park again, looking for a job.
After being rejected multiple times, he sat down on the curb to rest in frustration.
My stomach started making those annoying rumbling noises.
Two small bread rolls and a few bites of chicken leg weren't enough to fill our stomachs. Fortunately, there was free tap water in the park.
But making money is clearly an urgent matter.
Just as Shen Fu was pondering, an old scavenger carrying a sack walked past him.
Seeing the old man hunched over, rummaging through bottles on the roadside or in trash cans, an idea came to him...
...
After a busy day, Shen Fu raised his hand to wipe the sweat from his forehead.
It was almost time for him to go back.
If the little girl can't find him after school, she'll be accused of being a liar and a lying brother.
Back in the park, Shen Fu first hid the burlap sack in the haystack behind the bench.
I went to the public restroom to wash my face again.
Sure enough, Ning Wan appeared in a short while.
She always seems to have a happy and cheerful demeanor.
She always has that silly smile on her face, like a warm little sun.
"Brother Aman!" Ning Wan excitedly ran towards Shen Fu and hugged him tightly.
Shen Fu caught her steadily.
He didn't forget to criticize, saying, "You're not allowed to run anymore. What if you fall?"
Ning Wan remained silent, still wearing a smiling expression.
She put her hand into her pocket.
Seeing this, Shen Fu couldn't help but tease, "Is Wanwan's pocket some kind of treasure chest? Can she always conjure up something?"
The next second, Ning Wan took out two small bread rolls from her left pocket and an apple from her right pocket.
She held the item in both hands and handed it to Shen Fu: "It's for Brother Aman."
Shen Fu was stunned.
He frowned: "You don't need to bring me food anymore."
He has hands and feet, and he can figure things out on his own.
At worst, I'll just go hungry.
Ning Wan's life at home was already difficult enough; how could he possibly plunder food from a little girl's mouth?
"But Wanwan wants to take care of her brother," Ning Wan said innocently, tilting her head back. "I'll give my brother little bread rolls, and he'll play with me. I'll take care of you!"
Shen Fu was taken aback by Ning Wan's bold words and was momentarily stunned.
After a moment, he replied, "Thank you... but two small loaves of bread aren't enough to feed me..."
“Oh, I see…” Ning Wan lowered her head, her expression blank and disappointed: “…Wanwan is really useless. She can’t help with anything…”
